Israeli company Plasan continues to fulfill the order of the Brazilian police. In accordance with the existing contract, Israeli specialists must build and transfer to the customer six armored vehicles of the new model. The contract for the supply of armored vehicles was signed in June of this year. The São Paulo Police Department ordered Plasan to develop a new Guarder armored car to meet its requirements, as well as to build and supply six vehicles. For the performance of the work, Plasan will receive 9,5 million US dollars. New technology is intended for use in special forces police of the largest city in Brazil. The main task of Guarder machines will be the transportation of fighters and their protection from small-arms fire. weapons.

It is noteworthy that it took just a few months to create a new armored car for the Brazilian police. The contract was signed in June, and in the first days of November, Plasan showed the first car out of six ordered. Thus, the construction of the entire batch of new equipment will be completed in the next few months. Rapid work contributed to the approach used in the design of new technology. In the design of the Plasan Guarder armored vehicle, commercial vehicle units and technical solutions borrowed from previous Israeli armored vehicles projects are widely used.



It is reported that the two-axle chassis of the German company MAN, which has a chassis with the wheel formula 4х4, became the base for the new armored vehicles. The curb weight of the Guarder machine reaches 18,5 tons. With the payload 3,5 t, the combat weight of the armored car is equal to 22 t. The type of powerplant used and the exact mobility characteristics are unknown. It is alleged that the used chassis will provide the car with relatively high throughput and maneuverability. So, the turning radius is equal to 18 m, the machine can cross a trench 0,6 m wide, climb a wall 0,6 m high or slope up to 60 ° and ride with a heel to 25 °.

An armored corps is installed on the base chassis, made in the form of a single large unit that can hold the entire crew and landing force. The driver and the commander are located in front of the bonnet-free hull. The middle and aft of the hull are given under the troop compartment. According to official information, the Guarder armored hull meets the 3 level of protection according to the NATO standard STANAG 4569. The hull panels protect the crew from armor-piercing bullets of 7,62x51 cartridges. There is mine protection corresponding to the 1 level of the same standard. Thus, the crew and units of the armored car are protected from hand grenades and other explosive devices with a small charge.

Since the new armored vehicles are intended for use by the police, they were equipped with specific additional protection. So, all glasses are covered with bars, designed to hold stones and other objects thrown into the car. To monitor the situation, the commander and driver have a relatively large windshield and windows in the side doors. On the sides of the troop compartment there are four small windows. For landing and leaving the car has two side doors (driver and commander), as well as a large aft ramp door, lowered for the landing of the landing force.



The Plasan Guarder armored car has a total length of about 8,75 m. At the same time, the authors of the project managed to place the 22 seats in the troop compartment. Chairs are located at the sides of the hull, the soldiers should sit facing each other. If necessary, an armored car of a new model can be converted into a mobile command center or an ambulance.

Given the threats posed by police operations, the new Israeli armored car received a number of special systems. It is equipped with fire extinguishing equipment for the case when criminals use incendiary weapons, a filtering unit for the use of irritants or poisonous substances. To reduce blind spots around the armored car, the crew should use a video surveillance system that provides almost all-round visibility.

To date, only one armored car has been built. In accordance with the contract, Israeli specialists must build five more such machines by the end of the year. At the cost of one Guarder armored vehicle at the level of 1,6 million dollars for the execution of the order, Plasan will receive 9,5 million dollars.

Plasan is currently working on several projects commissioned by the São Paulo Police Department. In the foreseeable future, an Israeli company should transfer to Brazil various equipment, communication and control systems designed to combat crime. In addition, there is a contract worth 7,5 million dollars for the supply of four SandCat armored vehicles. This technique will be disguised as commercial vehicles.
