Vietnamese farmer Tran Quoc Hai, living in Tay Ninh province, bordering Cambodia, built an original armored personnel carrier with the 6x6 wheel formula for the Cambodian army, the blog reports "Center for Analysis of Strategies and Technologies" with reference to nguyentandung.org.
Chan Quoc Hai supplied food to the 70 Brigade of the Armed Forces of Cambodia. During his trips, he drew attention to the poor state of the fleet of armored vehicles and offered the command to repair one of the BRDM-2. Having spent about 25 thousands of dollars, the farmer, his son and a group of technical specialists of the brigade not only repaired, but also modernized the combat vehicle. In particular, they replaced the diesel engine with a diesel engine and mounted a recoilless gun on the turret. After that, the brigade command signed a contract with the farmer for the repair and upgrading of another 10 BRDM-2 and BTR-60PB, which he also successfully completed.
But this was not enough for him. Together with the engineers of the brigade, he began to build a wheeled armored personnel carrier of the original design. The development of the project took three months, and the car itself was built on the technical basis of the brigade in just one month. The material does not contain information about the technical characteristics of the combat vehicle, it is noted only that it can withstand hits from small arms weapons from a distance of about 7 meters. For the creation of this armored vehicle, Tran Quoc Hai and his son were awarded medals of Cambodia.
