The Chinese army surrounded the Tibetan monastery in the south-west of the country, where one of the novices recently staged an act of self-immolation. Daofu County in Sichuan province is closed to foreigners, local residents told AFP by telephone. The monastery was surrounded by about a thousand soldiers and police. Inside are the 100 people. They are cut off from electricity, water and food. The human rights organization Free Tibet, whose office is located in London, said that on the eve of the act of self-immolation arranged monk Tsewan Norbu. He shouted slogans in support of the Dalai Lama and the independence of Tibet. A similar case occurred in another Tibetan monastery five months ago.

Recall the latest large-scale unrest occurred in Tibet three years ago, on the eve of the Olympics 2008 in Beijing.
