The second life of BRDM. Scouts on "civilian." Part five

31
Dear Readers,
This is the fifth part of a review dedicated to the civilian versions of the BRDM-2. The previous parts are here:
BRDM. Scouts on "civilian." Part one;
BRDM. Scouts on "civilian." Part two; BRDM. Scouts on "civilian." Part three; BRDM. Scouts on "civilian." Part four.

As promised, in this and subsequent materials I post reviews of the BRDM, upgraded in specialized companies.

Enterprise "Ecoprof", Kiev. The engineering company, formed in 2007 year, is engaged in development in the field of modernization and overhaul of armored and automotive vehicles.

Employees of the company for a long time were the leading engineers and chief experts of 482 design and technology center of the main armored control of the USSR Ministry of Defense (then the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine) and have extensive experience in carrying out these works.

Tuning armored vehicles includes the following work:
- replacement of the carburetor engine with a diesel engine produced by IVECO, MMZ, ISUZU;
- Installation of an automatic transmission;
- manufacture and installation of armored windows;
- manufacture of the cabin: cutting armor from above under the salon, making and installing the cabin frame, warming and covering, making the floors, decorative trimming, making and installing the seats, making torpedoes;
- installation of removable fiberglass logging;
- painting the body according to the agreed sketches;
- Installation of air conditioner;
- installation of electric winch;
- installation of parking sensors, audio and video systems, GPS navigator, night vision devices.

We can offer a similar tuning complex for BTR lovers.

Option tuning BRDM-2 for tourism and recreation. The proposed option of tuning is intended for excursion-walking use of the machine in places of active rest. The open top and high seating position of passengers in the cabin allows them to freely view the surrounding surroundings, since the upper level of the roof will be at the level of the passenger's chest. Removable awning protects passengers from rain and sunlight. Additional wheels are dismantled, the engine and jet propulsion remain unchanged. The machine retains the ability to move through water.

The second life of BRDM. Scouts on "civilian." Part five

BRDM-2 for tourism and recreation.

Entrance to the salon from two sides through hermetic entrance doors of size 60x115 see. It is possible to install doors in the upper part of the body, in this case, ascent to the door by steps in the body. Installation of 3-x rows of seats is assumed: 1 row - driver and 1 passenger; 2 row - passenger 3; 3 series - passenger 3. Total total number of seats - 8 (including the driver's seat). The dimensions of the seats and the distances between the seats are selected according to ergonomic requirements. The visibility for the driver and passenger on the 1-series is increased by installing additional windows.

Option tuning BRDM-2 for hunting and fishing. In this embodiment, the following is additionally installed: a superstructure with a size at the base of 1400х1500 mm; trunk; stairs; in the cabin - a sofa for three people.

The presence of the add-in with built-in windows, as well as additional side windows in the upper part of the hull allows passengers sitting on the couch to view the surrounding area. When the turret’s top hatch is open, you can shoot from the guns while standing. Additional wheels are not dismantled, thus maintaining the ability of the machine to overcome trenches up to the 1,5 meter wide.

BRDM-2 for hunting and fishing.

The possibility of swimming in water is also preserved. In the car there are no side doors, the entrance to the cabin through the upper hatch of the superstructure and regular hatches. The total number of seats - 5 (including the driver's seat). The dimensions of the seats and the distances between the seats are selected according to ergonomic requirements. In the cabin a lot of free space for luggage. Racks and drawers can be equipped. In addition, on the external trunk with a platform of size 1,3х1,5 m you can place and tie up almost any cargo (boat, hunting prey, etc.). The car has a convenient approach to the trunk and superstructure from the back stairs. The proposed version of the modernization of the machine can be widely used for official purposes for patrolling land, forest and water areas, as well as due to its versatility - in other cases and situations at the request of the owner.

    Mikhail, as I understand it, this unit was created on the basis of the BTR-60? At one time, I had a chance to observe how the mechanics were tormented on the KShM R-145 created on the basis of this armored personnel carrier. In my opinion, the concept of a twin power unit was initially flawed. Is there a spark on the "civilian" version too?

      the twin power plant didn’t come from a good life — the Soviet industry didn’t have enough capacity to produce diesel (the required power) and they planned to fight in the west where the emphasis was on the use of gasoline at the time (that’s why they got out), by the way, the sparks had pluses if one was damaged (in battle), it was possible to move on one engine.

      hi
      This company is engaged in the modernization of technology not only for civilians, but also for the Armed Forces.
      The manufacturer’s website did not find information about BTR-60.
      There are a lot of things there: they did not even take care of the renewal of the license.
      Or did not post a new one.
      The company has a license from the Ministry of Industrial Policy of Ukraine AB №419971 from 11.12.2009 for the modernization of military equipment and weapons.
      The license is valid until 19.12.2013.

      And for the BTR-70 offer for replacement:
      two ZMZ-4905, four-stroke, petrol, carburetor.
      Maximum power, l / s 2x 120.
      or
      two IVECO, diesel, four-cylinder, liquid cooled.
      Maximum power, l / s 2x 150.

    The passability of these armored cars is frankly bad, if you need to take a good tractor in tandem where to go on the roads. And fuel consumption of 50 liters probably per hundred. It’s better to take an all-terrain vehicle on pneumatics and it swims and will not get stuck anywhere.

      Foolishly, as you know, you can break anything ... they have better cross-country ability than most SUVs, moreover, on such an aggregate you can easily move along small forests and overgrown taiga roads. But fuel consumption is really prohibitive. However, for those who buy such vehicles - this is not a priority issue.

        I do not agree, he has a very small ground clearance and a lot of weight, and as soon as he sits on his belly everything, you need to get out through the hatch to the roof and shout "Hey tractor where are you" And he swims only where there is a gentle exit to the shore. with its long nose, it will not come ashore if it is a small snatch.

        The first video stuck in the sand, and he is insidious laughing but the native element of an armored car is a forest slurry and dirt, where it is barely pulled by a winch.

            Exactly. And yet, for which additional lowering wheelsets were invented, the Dudes are also unknown.
            Yet. In the video, the driver for some reason butts a tree for a long time. And when he is dragged on a winch, it is clearly visible that the apparatus sits on his belly. That is, it is towed like a drag. And this is a completely different effort.

        Judging by the fact that only the rear wheels are buried, the "front end" does not turn on, and it is noticeable in the video (it took a long time to load). Obviously, there are simply no handouts there - "beach efficiency". By the way, the article does not pay attention to aggregate tuning. not everyone is satisfied with the native engine and it's not even a matter of his appetite (although at the present time the problem is not unimportant). Tight with spare parts (the same screened candle is not easy to get now, all the special "small things" are in short supply), the car requires regular maintenance, outside depending on the intensity of exploitation. Explain; if the device stays for two or three months in the garage from the "key" it will not start, you always need to open the covers, pump something up, tighten, adjust. And the tractor driver in the video also does not know how to use a "kettle" -demultiplier In general, the equipment is in the hands of a savage-pile of scrap metal. And the patency of the BRDM-2 is super-duper, you just need to be able to.

      Judging by the video, additional wheelsets between the main axles do not work. It is they that are not enough for self-sanding. This is not the shushpanzer that in the previous article was described as a model for sightseeing tours?
      In addition, it is strange that such a heavy machine is pulled by a tractor from acceleration without even trying to dig out sand from under the rear axle that is stuck in front of the wheels. So not for long and break the cables. If they were to drown in a clay slurry, they would just break the cables. Or tow hooks would tear off.

    In my opinion, the word flawed is not particularly appropriate, rather not particularly successful. On the one hand, there are many troubles. But there were cases when an RPG got into one engine, the car left on the second.

      Quite often they change the engine to the Belarusian D245. And yes, aggregate tuning is usually beyond Shumkov and removing additional wheels does not go. It’s too painful for a specific toy, so the budget is from a million, and if you also tune it in an adult ...

      By the way, about the "eight" ZMZ-4905. This engine can also be modified (after all, we fantasize on the basis of what the customer has).
      So you can put on the ZMZ-4905 "injection" cylinder heads and completely all the fuel equipment and the ignition system for the injector. True, for this, you will have to install a new "plate" (intake manifold), but in-line UMZ "fours" have been altered so and are successfully put on "GAZEL" and "UAZ".
      Installation of direct injection will give a small increase in power and will slightly reduce fuel consumption.
      Alternatively, you can also install a modern HBO (and not very expensive), because the car will still be operated on a civilian as a tourist all-terrain vehicle.

      As for the diesel engine, I wrote earlier in the commentary to the first article and I see no reason to repeat.
      I just want to add a little. You can put in-line 4/6-cylinder "air vent", which is generally a beauty for such a "box".
      And here, as the saying goes, "fantasy has no boundaries." You want to put the Russian D-144 (it can be forced) or GAZ-5441.10, you want to put the imported one (DEUTZ BF4L913).

      Yes, you just have to do it wisely. In 2005, two command (or electronic warfare) vehicles based on the BRDM-2 arrived at our plant for "utilization", the equipment was transferred from them to modernized vehicles (with a suspension from an armored personnel carrier). the old women "were equipped with Mersev units OM-366LA with a Mersev gearbox (with a pneumatic gear selector), the hand-out was native. In 94, these cars underwent a thorough repair on the territory of the Kaliningrad VO. The times were troubled, and the cars were obviously necessary. And everything was done. it is clear that it was smart. This unit felt wonderful there, there was more space in the MTO. They really couldn’t swim, finally, all the water-jet primudas were dismantled. And they ran around decently, both of them were not many for 100, for an army papela this is, I I'll tell you, -RUN. And "good GM" or "cool Ivekovsky" is already a good joke laughing .
