Scouts have proven they can be trusted.

Scouts have proven they can be trusted. In the Western Military District, special reconnaissance competitions were held at the championship of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation. Each such competition is unique and unique in its essence. And the current one, we can say, was special - the special forces showed that they were able to maintain their combat potential even after the cardinal reformation, which it underwent during the past two years. In some ways, this potential has even increased. However, the leaders of special intelligence have to think about what.

However, it is not at all clear now who exactly is in charge of the army special forces and who is primarily interested in its development.

October 24 1950, according to the memorandum of the Chief of the General Staff of the Army General Sergey Shtemenko, USSR Minister of War Marshal of the Soviet Union Alexander Vasilevsky gave a secret directive to form the first special-purpose companies of 120 each. Spetsnaz entered the structure of the GRU and was immediately classified more than nuclear weapon. About the fact that we have an atomic bomb, in those years everyone knew. The country learned about the existence of army special forces after the withdrawal of Soviet troops from Afghanistan, where he showed himself from the best side.

The first special forces group competitions were held in 1975 year. They won in the reconnaissance group from the GSVG - Group of Soviet Forces in Germany. And it was logical. The commandos of the “German” brigade, in the event of a world war threat, should have been able to almost instantly destroy the entire NATO command and control infrastructure in Western Europe and all the bases of tactical and even strategic missiles where they were located.

For almost 60 years of its existence, GRU special forces only increased their strength, in contrast to the Ground Forces, they did not undergo any significant changes. When the Chief of the General Staff of Anatolia Kvashnin was even increased the size of some brigades, and the rank of their commanders was promoted to major general.

However, the fundamental reformation of the Armed Forces of modern Russia could not help but touch the GRU and its special forces. They did not even take into account the peculiarities of the combat training of special-purpose intelligence officers. Moreover, a significant part of the brigade support functions, which were previously exclusively within the competence of the GRU, were transferred to the command of the Ground Forces. So the competitions were held in the new special forces format and in full compliance with the new requirements for combat training.

And today they are demanding from the troops in every possible way that this training be strengthened and brought closer to real combat. Soldiers should spend the maximum amount of time at training grounds, in classrooms and gyms.

And the special forces group competitions immediately moved to the field. Previously, the first two days the scouts spent on the territory of the brigade that organized the competition. They passed theoretical exams, medical training, sports standards and many other subjects that are mandatory in the training of special forces, but not necessary for their development and evaluation at the site. This time, after the grand opening and the planned construction, everything, including senior officers, departed to the brigade training ground - one of the best in the units of the special mission. By the way, the important role assigned to the competition by the organizers is indicated by the fact that each group of 15 people must be accompanied by the deputy brigade commander, who is the team leader.

For the first time, the actions of groups were recorded by video cameras hidden in the trees and transmitting images to the central control station. These observations were carried out in test mode, not everything worked out as desired.

But the first step in a qualitatively new technical equipment to control future competitions and in general the process of training intelligence officers has been taken. An unmanned aerial vehicle even appeared in the air, which also fixed the secrecy or, conversely, the invisibility of the movement of special forces at certain stages. This can be attributed to the positive results of military reform.

The competition took nine days and was divided into ten stages. To talk about all is a long, albeit interesting thing. However, to convey in words everything that happened during that overstretched “action”, which used to be called “jumps,” is almost impossible.

One of the most difficult elements was overcoming the mountainous obstacle course. It was introduced during the training of special forces even during the war in Afghanistan, but it did not receive development. Only the fighting in the North Caucasus made the scouts very closely engage in training in the mountains.

On the mountain strip, the scouts climbed the ladders to a great height, swiftly descended down the ropes, again climbed up the ropes, pulled the weights on the mountain platforms (imitation of raising boxes with ammunition), ran along the logs suspended on the ropes, crawled through the “animal holes”, climbed the steep wall to the “skyscraper”, threw grenades at the “enemy”, jumped on the stumps that imitated boulders on a mountain river, and also demonstrated the ability to own mountain alpinist equipment.

For the first time in the competition, they introduced the assessment of the ability of special forces to throw knives and MSL - small sapper blades, which for some reason were considered to be the most “terrible weapon of special forces” in a period of wide publicity.

The scouts parachuted into the "rear of the enemy" by parachute from helicopters. For all history of their existence in a real combat situation, the special forces never jumped with a parachute, they always went to the rear in a different way. Parachute jumping as they were, and remained the strongest element of psychological preparation. However, there are all sorts of situations in a war, so to be able to use a parachute for special purpose intelligence officers is mandatory in all armies of the world - where they are, of course.

After landing, the groups left in secret marches for a distance of 30 kilometers. Those who knew how to use a map and a compass well, went the distance without any problems. But there were those who reeled tens of kilometers into their legs. Then there was the search for a field communications center on an area of 200 square kilometers. On the one hand - difficult. On the other hand, there are reconnaissance signs, according to which a secret object can be found in a few hours. There was a seizure of the staff vehicle, a ferry with all of the reconnaissance ammunition, a raid on a convoy of operational-tactical missiles and a swift departure with imitation of the destruction of various pursuers. There was even a jog in combined-arms protective suits - OZK. This is also an element of psychophysical training. There was still a lot of interesting and very difficult things to master only real men.

Meanwhile, half of the competition participants are conscript soldiers who have served for only a few months. It turns out that a real intelligence officer, even for special purposes, can still be prepared even in half a year. So, yes, not quite.

The mixed group of one of the brigades of the Eastern District won, but the contract soldiers still pulled out the victory. By the way, many soldiers said that if they had been told on draft commissions that they would send special intelligence units, they would have to serve a year more, considering the specifics of the training, they would, without hesitation, agree. And just get involved in the taste of the intelligence service, how to resign. And commanders have to start all over again.

Optimal for the special forces would be to staff the brigade only with contract soldiers. Although at a salary of a little more than ten thousand rubles, it is not easy to find those who want to pull the strap of a physically very heavy service, and besides, deadly. However, not so long ago, many of the brigades were able to be largely staffed with contract soldiers. But the next little meaningful stage of the current military reform began. Contract soldiers from special forces were ordered to fire. Fired almost all, preserved units. Now recruit again.

The best specialists in the special forces were traditionally ensigns. They were eliminated in all the Armed Forces of Russia “as a class”. And in special purpose intelligence as well. And there was no one to replace.

The third place in the competition was taken by the cadets of the higher educational institution, where they train special intelligence officers. After all the reforms, this former military institute is called so that you break the tongue while you say it. Alas, there was a break not only the name, but also the educational process. This was aggravated by the fact that, in accordance with the new staffing and age restrictions, the most experienced officers and teachers were fired. Is it possible to evaluate teachers by the standards common to the whole army ?! This teaching experience comes with gray hair. And gray can not serve.

Cadets traditionally occupied the first places over the years. It could not be otherwise - future officers were still standing in the ranks. Now they are the third. This is not a very good symptom. They were bypassed by groups in which, besides contract soldiers, were conscripts. But after all, these special forces were preparing, including military service, specialists of the old school. And what intelligence officers will young officers be able to train in the near future who lack proper training and have no will to win?

What else was negative at the competition? First of all, the quality of the field uniform, which is supplied for uniforms of the entire Russian army and intelligence officers, special forces. Everybody scolded her: both soldiers and officers. The main disadvantage is the quality of the fabric, which was positioned as a membrane, capable of allowing the body to breathe, while protecting it from rain and cold, and which is not. The warrior in the new field uniform, having made the first active movements, is covered with sweat, the fabric becomes wet and no longer dries. So, in the raw vestments, a soldier and an officer must run through forests, mountains, deserts, taking into account the variability of the weather, either under the scorching sun, now in the rain, now in a strong cool. No matter how physically strong and hardened, the group of scouts was, but, having gone to a real combat outlet in a new uniform, especially in the mountains, the whole of it would cruelly forgive the very first day of movement.

Taking into account the fact that on the tests of the new form, in which the special forces took part, the fabric did not cause any special complaints (we would leave the convenience and beauty of the cut out of the brackets), to understand why the clothes were massively sewed to the troops, Apparently, the competent authorities.

For the first time after the collapse of the USSR, intelligence officers of the Ukrainian army arrived at the spetsnaz competitions. They acted outside the standings, but the results showed good. The Ukrainian group consisted of officers and contract soldiers. The goals and objectives of the Ukrainian special forces are significantly different from those set for special-purpose Russian intelligence. In addition, ours have combat experience. But in principle, the experts of the “independent” can do everything that our intelligence officers do. They overcome the mountain obstacle course quickly, and cross the water barrier very competently, and they shoot perfectly, and they know how to throw knives, move secretly and quickly across unfamiliar terrain. However, they also have problems. In particular, the form issued to intelligence officers is even worse than the Russian one. Special forces of Ukraine are shod and dressed at their own expense. And their salary, by the way, is considerably less than the Russian servicemen.

In general, past competitions have shown that it was possible to keep the main combat potential of the Russian special forces. If during the military reform these small forces were treated more closely, taking into account the truly deadly conditions in which the intelligence officers have to work in a real war, the special forces would only have won. However, the reforms have not been completed, and the future of the special forces of the Russian Armed Forces is far from as bleak as it sometimes seems.
