Antares launch vehicle, which was supposed to deliver an American Cygnus spacecraft with equipment and food for the ISS to orbit, exploded when launched from NASA spaceport on Wallops Island near the coast of Virginia, reports TASS.

At the NASA cosmodrome exploded launch vehicle "Antares"

The launch could be watched live on the NASA site. The rocket exploded immediately after launch in 1: 23 Moscow time 29 October, only a little off the ground.

According to representatives of the space agency, there were no people near the launch complex, so no one was hurt. However, the launch pad was severely damaged and the ship Cygnus was completely destroyed.

The investigation of the causes of the disaster will take a special commission of representatives of NASA, as well as the company Orbital Sciences, has built a ship and a rocket.

White House deputy press secretary Eric Schulz said that the incident was reported to US President Barack Obama, who is currently in Wisconsin.

At Cygnus, there were more than 2 tons of payloads for the International Space Station, in particular, food and equipment for scientific experiments.

It is worth noting that the launch of the rocket was postponed because of the vessel, which appeared in the forbidden zone to the south-east of the island of Wallops.

          "According to the data published by the US astronautics expert Jonathan McDowell, the Russian communications spacecraft Express-AM6 could not be put into the desired orbit.
          An expert, as a rule, refers to data from the North American Aerospace Defense Command, NORAD, Interfax reports.
          According to a source in the rocket and space industry, the actual parameters of the orbit indicate that the Breeze-M "did not work quite cleanly", and "an additional maneuver can" eat "part of the 15-year warranty period for the active existence of the device."

          The launch of the Express-AM6 satellite was the sixth launch this year using the Proton launch vehicle and the second after the accident. "

                  Refer to the reference information:
                  The first stage of the Antares launch vehicle is equipped with two AJ-26 oxygen-kerosene rocket engines - a modification of the NK-33 engine developed by Aerojet and licensed in the United States for use on American launch vehicles (including the Antares), created by by removing some of the equipment from the original NK-33 (out of 37 copies purchased from the ND Kuznetsov SNTK), adding American electronics, adapting the engine to the fuel produced in the USA, and also equipping it with a cardan joint to control the thrust vector.
                  ... Since Orbital did not have enough experience working with large liquid steps and cryogenic components, a contract was signed with the SE Yuzhnoye for the first stage of Antares

                  Further about the accident:
                  The rocket climbed only a few tens of meters and six seconds after the launch, the space truck was lost.
                  Those. it is clear to the goat that if he breathed, then the engine of the first stage, and this is "unfortunately" - AJ-26, but even if there are problems with the components of the NK-33, then this is no longer NK-33, but on its basis Zayo ... a tuned model where the electronics, control and of course the fuel supply system are of the same standard, and from practice these things, as a rule, lead to a disaster. Well, engineers who did not produce it (mostly who died of old age) in the seventies are responsible for the first stage.

                      What are the problems with Russia? If the engines were produced in a country that does not exist nowadays - the USSR, fifty years ago, they were bought by an American company as scrap metal. It is their misfortune that they put on the newest carriers (apparently from a good life) Soviet "junk", to which they grow and not dearer, moreover, they spoiled it by their processing. It would be fine if the engine manufacturer took part in this at least somehow, but I think the service life of the engine ended more than forty years ago. And, how could it be, after all, they walked on the moon, though according to their words and from the footage shot in the desert by Stanley Kubrick.

            Even the states shouldn't be grinning about the Express, the device moves from a geostationary transfer to a geostationary working orbit using its own electric jet engines, which use xenon as a working fuel. Those. the device does not completely depend on the operation of the carrier, but itself falls into place and flies for the prescribed period, or not. The so-called statement of additional. maneuvers - nothing more than the main essence of the work of this scheme, which is a certain qualitative indicator. But the attempt to get rid of the monopoly of Russia failed miserably in the form of the death of a new carrier, and even not on tests, but when performing the mission necessary for the world cosmonautics, and of course the ISS consortium will be forced to fall at its feet and pay the extra loot of course to Russia, but the unfortunate Yuzhnoye "will get a big minus.

          This accident once again showed that space is a complex technique and it was not in vain that the astronauts were previously given the star of a hero. Now we fly on Korolev’s rockets (albeit advanced ones), what will happen when we switch to the Angara? I would not gloat over the fall of the American rocket, which was carrying cargo on the ISS, if a missile with military cargo had fallen, it would have joined the joyful comments.

            Any carrier - dual-use, cooperation with Yuzhny, an attempt by the states to compensate for their failures in rocketry by "stealing" technologies from the Soviet legacy. It is through the so-called Ukrainian "brothers" that the state military-industrial complex has greatly benefited. Now the cargo for the ISS has disappeared, the combat station will not be launched tomorrow. What is good, but when our former design bureau works for the enemy, then let it die sooner.

          And the NK-33 engine, is it really assembled in Ukraine? what I'm not special, enlighten ... recourse

          Here is what they write:

          One of the key elements of Antares rockets is the legendary NK-33 oxygen-kerosene engine, developed back in the late 1960s of Kuznetsov’s SNTK for the Soviet lunar program. After the closure of the lunar program, it was decided to destroy the engines, but the company's management retained them, and about four dozen were sold to the American private corporation Orbital Sciences, which sets them on the first stage of the Antares rocket. Over the entire history, more than 200 NK-33 engines have been produced, which have passed 575 fire tests. Despite its age, the engine has a high specific thrust, which attracts Americans. Since 2010, NASA, together with private partners, has been fine-tuning the NK-33, equipping them with new electrics and adapting them to American fuel, so that under the name AJ-26 it can be used on Antares missiles.

          At the first stage of the rocket, two such engines are installed, while fuel tanks are assembled in the Ukrainian Design Bureau Yuzhnoye in Dnepropetrovsk.

            Engine Russian development SNTK them. N.D. Kuznetsova. Installed on the Antares (first stage) engine is called the AJ-26.
            AJ-26 is a family of Aero-NK-33 engine modifications developed by Aerojet and licensed in the USA (AJ26-58, AJ26-62) for use on American launch vehicles (including Antares) created by removing some equipment from the original NK-33 (from among 37 copies purchased from the N. D. Kuznetsov SNTK), adding American electronics, checking the engine for compatibility with fuel produced in the USA, and also equipping with a universal joint for controlling the thrust vector (similar to NK-33-1)
            The first flight of the Antares rocket with two AJ-26 engines took place on 21.04.2013
            But problems apparently arose in the first stage.

      They took it off the tongue. Reading the joyful comments, I remembered an article on VO dated 03.10.14/5/5: "The first losses of the American army in the" fight "against ISIS." How the people gloated. Then he wrote in the comments: "... life is such a thing: today you gloated, tomorrow a brick fell on your head or your loved one ..." On October XNUMX, an article appeared on VO: "XNUMX contract servicemen were killed in an accident in the Rostov region." And the people began to write condolences.
      There is a good article on the topic of the crash from the military observer of the Communist Party, Viktor Barents. http://www.kp.ru/daily/26301/3179631/
      I quote the correct, in my opinion, words:
      "If everything happened exactly the opposite, I already represent the headlines of newspapers, agencies, not to mention the ukropatriots on Twitter. They would be full of all sorts of dirt that would be poured on our heads with you. Why don't we do the same now ? Against the background of the idiotic disaster at the American cosmodrome, our rocket launched safely and in the near future, I believe, will reach the ISS, etc. failures. And failures happen here too. You know, in this respect Ukraine and Russia are divided into certain layers. And in America, including, there are people who react differently. Professionals react with regret, even offer their help in investigation of the emergency. Because this is a kind of union of intellectuals who work in one direction - in the exploration of space. And there is what we call "bydlyachstvo." This is such an animal, malevolent reaction to every puncture or request couple of colleagues in space exploration. We are all observing this. That is life. Probably, we will have to live with this until the culture of relations between our states, between peoples becomes different, as it was in previous years. But before that you have to live a long, long time. "
      So you can not gloat, but simply state the facts: the catastrophe of the rocket was a good lesson for the Americans. And I'm sure they will draw conclusions from this lesson.

        The problem is the problem, the strife! I think, even if everything were very serious, the Americans would not have yelled: "Chief - everything is gone! Turn the astronauts from the station to Earth as soon as they are alive!" laughing I suspect that "will not create" a problem means that the station will continue to function normally, the astronauts will be able to perform the assigned tasks, but they will have to go into the economy mode, "tighten their belts." In addition, what is not a problem today may be a problem tomorrow. For example, oxygen was among the cargo that was supposed to be delivered to the ISS on this flight. Now the ISS does not seem to be experiencing problems with a shortage of this gas. However, this was not always the case; in the past, problems with supplying the station with oxygen happened more than once. Is there a guarantee that a similar problem will not arise tomorrow ?!

    Antares booster rocket explodes at NASA launch site

    This is a provocation staged by Russia and the Donbass militias wink . Now the United States has a compelling reason to impose an extraordinary package of sanctions against Russia laughing and the official armament of Kyiv, which means they will start again soon.

    The Russian media are full of joy. While waging an information war, they joyfully published “The Ukrainian-American missile exploded” and everyone joyfully said in a loud voice - the Ukrainians are to blame here too.
    Speaking of the engine.
    Here is a complete list of victims of this engine:
    1) Rocket N-1 on February 21, 1969, with the unmanned ship 7K-L1A/L1S (11F92) “Zond-M”;
    2) Rocket N-1 July 3, 1969, with the unmanned ship 7K-L1A/7K-L1S (11F92) “Zond-M”;
    3) Rocket N-1 June 27, 1971, with a mock-up of the lunar complex L3;
    4) Rocket N-1 November 23, 1972, with an unmanned ship LOK (11F93) and a mock-up of the ship LC;
    5? Antares rocket with Cygnus cargo ship. ???
    Let's be reasonable...otherwise lately it's not the site, but the Maidan...everyone is jumping around only with a different slogan - like Ukrainians are your khan.
    We need to wait for the results of the investigation. If it was the Ukrainian side that messed up, it will have problems. If the Russian messed up, it was her. The American one or another one screwed up. It’s all very clear that they won’t take any more risks.
    There is no need to deal with “the neighbor’s cow died.”

      There is something else - it just goes away.
      It’s not worth jumping on the rocket, the launch was at sunset and most likely the reason is in geophysics - before the general catastrophe there is such a “reverse current” that spoils the engines and electronics, this is a relatively new phenomenon, it is 4 years old. Proton launches, especially unsuccessful ones, can be used as a voltmeter - everything can be seen in principle on video and for free (for the observer)... plus a comedy with Rogozin’s pearls and fairy tales about the connector.
      Let's gallop at the very catastrophe - all together.

        I agree with your opinion, but to find a needle in a haystack, you still need to dig through not only the haystack and not only the hay.
        On this topic. You are right. And we assumed that there is a whole complex of influencing factors such as the one you mentioned. “The reverse current” through the body is precisely due to the fact that the plasma outflow flows very strongly ionize not only the nozzle body, up to the formation of ice on it reverse side, but also polarize the body of the rocket itself. After all, the nozzle is not separated by a dielectric from the body. Sunset is a completely obvious movement of the source of ionization in the form of the SUN towards the tip of the rocket. This means that polarization should increase many times over. And you should not ignore the polarization towards the gravitational source of the EARTH.

    The desire to increase the payload is due to the fact that it is necessary to significantly increase the total weight of the rocket, including the fuel itself. Therefore, the main source of unresolved problems remains turbo fuel superchargers. As the load on the blades increases, and the principles of their operation remain the same, complex processes arise in the fuel itself or in the oxidizer. Therefore, firstly, it is impossible to mix one and the other at lightning speed and maintain trouble-free proportions. Secondly, there are limits to the rotation of the rotors of these turbines, which means that with an increased maximum load, they are simply destroyed because changes in the outflow flow destroy these blades.

    “Apparently, the accident of the Antares rocket severely damaged the launch complex. It is unlikely that the consequences will be eliminated quickly. I think the next launch from here will be possible no earlier than the spring or summer of next year. Therefore, it is possible that the Americans will ask the Russian side to provide a cargo ship (" Progress") to deliver goods to its segment," the agency's interlocutor said. Interfax.

    Gentlemen/comrades. There’s no point in making fun of us, much less lamenting our engines, because:
    1. Orbital Sciences Corporation is a private company and is merely a contractor for NASA. Whether it exists or not, it does not particularly affect the US space program. This is not a failure of NASA, but a failure of Orbital Sciences.
    2. If the Orbital Sciences corporation supplied something of the wrong quality to their product or did it crookedly, then only the corporation’s employees are to blame for this, and not the manufacturers of engines or any systems.

    This case is a typical example of how “freeloaders” get what they should have gotten. Orbital Sciences Corporation is a minimum of its ideas and a maximum of lobbying. All their launch vehicles were the product of someone else’s thoughts, as the song said, “I blinded you from what was...” I hope NASA will understand that they contacted the wrong person...
    And finally. I think today is a holiday at SpaceX, at least Elon Musk is pleased with the failure of his competitor...

    In the USA, a plane crashed into an airport building.
    According to preliminary data, the accident involved a twin-engine Beechcraft 200 - Super King Air, designed for 10 passengers. The plane took off, but for some reason tried to return to the runway. Shortly before the crash, the pilot reported problems with the car's engine.

    Some kind of synchronized repeated accidents occurred.
