Swedish naval intelligence: the story of the "Russian submarine" is nothing more than rumors and someone's imagination
Swedish newspaper journalists asked intelligence to provide a copy of the intercepted signals. Such information is often fully or partially classified, therefore, upon request, they give only a formal reference to the details of the required document. However, this time the intelligence agency did not provide anything, since there was no interception.
“I think I'm just as interested as you are to read about the Russian signal for help. But there is nothing like that, the information is incorrect, ”said a senior intelligence official, adding that story with a submarine based on rumors and someone's fantasies.
Swedish military launched a large-scale operation to search for a foreign, presumably Russian, submarine 17 of October. Later in the media there was information that the submarine may be in disrepair, since it received a distress signal.
Moscow immediately denied all allegations, stating that all Russian submarines are far from the area from which the signal was allegedly received.
The search for the submarine continued for two weeks, but no evidence of its presence could be found.
According to the commander of the Naval Forces of Sweden, Rear Admiral Anders Grenstadt, the operation cost the state treasury 2.2 million euros.
