Patriarch of Moscow and All Russia Kirill presented the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation Sergey Lavrov with a public award for diplomats - the prize of the holy blessed Prince Alexander Nevsky. The ceremony, in which the Foreign Minister received a diploma and a gold badge, was held on Tuesday in the Cathedral of Christ the Savior.
Having received the award, Lavrov expressed "great thanks for recognizing the merits of Russian diplomacy."
"I dare to assure you that we will continue to defend the interests of our country," - RIA quotes him as saying "News".
The prize of the holy Prince Alexander Nevsky is annually awarded to the best diplomats. The first prize - the gold sign - was received in 2009 by the president of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of the Russian Federation, Yevgeny Primakov.
The Holy Prince Alexander Nevsky was called the patron saint of Russian diplomacy in 1725, when Catherine I instituted the order that received his name. In 2007, the board of trustees of the program of the Center for National Glory “Alexander Nevsky” decided to award diplomats with a public prize and the breastplate of the faithful Prince Alexander Nevsky, made in the form of a shield framed with oak and laurel wreaths.
“The award is intended to: encourage the desire of Russian diplomacy employees to improve themselves; contribute to the strengthening of patriotism and the principles of public service; to stimulate the creative activities of diplomatic service personnel in the performance of their duties, ”the council noted.
