Public Chamber of the Russian Federation: Ukrainian draftees younger than 19 years should receive the right to leave the war zone

Members of the Public Chamber of the Russian Federation studied the Optional Protocol to the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child on the participation of children in hostilities, and found violations by Kiev, reports INTERFAX.RU. In particular, Ukraine pledged not to recruit citizens who are less than 19 years old, but information appeared in open sources that people from 18 years and under serve in the National Guard of Ukraine.

In particular, on July 28, Kiev published an official announcement about the death of an 18-year-old Ukrainian who was called up to join the armed forces. In connection with this incident, the Public Chamber appealed to Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov with an appeal to begin investigating the facts of the illegal appeal of young men.

"We appeal to Sergey Viktorovich (Lavrov), because we are convinced that Ukrainian recruits younger than 19 years should have the right to leave the combat zone on the basis of international law - their parents and they should know about it," said a member of the Public Chamber RF Vice-President of the Russian Peace Foundation Elena Sutormina.

In addition, members of the Public Chamber drew the attention of the international community to the fact that 16-17-year-olds are in hot spots.

“It’s unthinkable when cynical politicians and provocateurs literally hide behind young boys,” the public figures said.
