The accusation from the mouth of the outright angry Angela Merkel, of course, sounded menacing. But it seems somewhat naive - or, perhaps, done for the public. To conduct a “cold war”, as well as to spy on “allies” and “partners,” even in the warmest times, Washington did not stop. All his "peace-loving" statements remained only statements. Washington is doing only one thing on the world stage: lying. And lying with success. So that even the German chancellor is surprised then.
But first things first.
A few days ago in Germany revealed a spy who worked in the Ministry of Defense of the country. He collaborated with the Pentagon's intelligence department (according to other sources — with the State Department, according to third data — with the NSA). His name is not disclosed. The investigation led the Ministry of Defense of Germany. There are no details, because the authorities believe that this is a very serious case of espionage.
No details yet because the spy managed to destroy evidence. What the investigators took from him is not a big deal.
As a result, the suspect is at large.
Earlier, the Germans exposed the double agent. This man, who worked for the benefit of the German fatherland in the Federal Intelligence Service (BND), as it turned out on July 2, supplied some secret information to “partners” from the Central Intelligence Agency (abbreviated CIA). Some publications have reported that this spy received instructions from the American embassy, but not in Berlin, but in Vienna. That's how Americans cover their tracks.
This gentleman had access to documents on cooperation of states in the NATO bloc, on export weapons and to other files, including those related to the sphere of politics (to documents of the parliamentary committee). Media writes that this person was involved in the preparation of strategic documents of Germany.
For a couple of years of "partnership" with the Americans, the agent stole several hundred secret German documents. In the press they write about two hundred, then about 300 documents.
The arrested Markus R. did not hide anything. Investigators have already received a whole list in which not the names or the nicknames of the CIA agents with whom the young spy dealt appear. Now these persons are closely involved in the relevant departments. It is possible that someone will arrest.
It is curious that Marcus was not recruited and did not even try to do it. He himself came into contact with representatives of the CIA - in a very simple way: he sent an e-mail to the diplomatic mission of Washington in Berlin. Certainly, the security workers went to meet the “activist”: they provided him with a coded mini-computer with which he began to get in touch with the American special services. No one could suspect him of anything. Even if someone were suddenly behind him, he could see that the BND worker was watching ... the weather forecast. That is how the “Weather Forecast” was called the program for communication with the CIA.
The spy downloaded information from service computers to an ordinary flash drive. Then it was transmitted to the "curators" in Austria. In the western press it is assumed that for every filled flash drive he was paid 10.000 euros. As you can see, the reason is simple: money.
Curious and something else. Marcus caught only when he tried to expand the network of his "contacts". America was not enough for him, and he decided to contact the Russians. And contacted - in the same postal way: wrote a new letter by email. mail.
At this time, he was already on suspicion, and he was suspected just in collaboration with Moscow. Great was the disappointment (and outrage) of the Germans, when it turned out that the guy was selling wholesale his motherland to the Allies-Americans!
He got caught because his letter addressed to the Russian embassy and sent from the computer of the Federal Intelligence Service was intercepted by counterintelligence agents. The letter talked about the possible "cooperation" with the Kremlin.
12 July it became known that the chancellor Angela Merkel was seriously angry. That NSA surveillance, the spies - one, the second! Berlin took yes drove from the country of the CIA resident.
According to Angela Merkel, the United States has returned to the Cold War policy.
Giving an interview to the TV channel ZDF, Frau Merkel said that Germany and the United States have “fundamentally different” views on the work of the special services. In her opinion, the "partners" can not spy on each other.
However, she had said this before, but now she had to admit that she doubted that Washington could be convinced of this simple truth.
White House spokesman Josh Ernest immediately made a short speech on the topic of international partnership. “Of course, between our countries the exchange of intelligence information and data relating to security continues. And this is not happening because Chancellor Merkel is doing us a favor. Merkel, as well as President Obama, does this in the interests of our countries. Germany is our partner and we will continue to act within the framework of collective cooperation, ”the channel quotes him. "NTV".
The statement is as false as it is cheeky. “Exchange of intelligence information” has long been turned into some kind of sporting event, which should be called “Who will spy whom?” And it is absolutely clear that Germany is losing to America here, despite two revelations. If some uncle has been regularly handing over important German secrets to Washington for two years, then much has flowed to the CIA.
The CIA tried to settle an international scandal. The head of the department, John Brennan, telephoned the coordinator of the German intelligence services, Klaus-Peter Fritsche. No details about the conversation. Mr. Brennan must have inspired Herr Fritsche in something like that: “You understand, we have such work ...”
As for public statements, Foreign Minister Frank-Walter Steinmeier gave an interview to the Saarbrücker Zeitung, where he said that everything must be “quickly investigated.” The activities of Washington, he called "attempts to learn something about the position of Germany with the help of conspiracy methods."
What does Germany intend to do?
There is an opinion in German parliamentary circles that Berlin should be politically “revenged” on Washington. There is a way to do this: you need to invite Edward Snowden to the country, who now lives in Russia. Let Snowden testify against the American special services directly in front of the parliamentary committee in Berlin.
Will Angered Merkel go for it? Our forecast: will not go. USA and Germany - "partners"! And Josh Ernest for good reason made it clear that Merkel is doing everything "in the interests of our countries."
