Former Makhachkala mayor Said Amirov of the North Caucasus District Military Court sentenced to 10 years in prison. The same court also sentenced the nephew of the ex-mayor of the administrative center of Dagestan, Yusup Dzhaparov, to 8,5 years in prison. Reports about it RIA News.
The former mayor of Makhachkala Amirov and the former mayor of Kaspiisk Dzhaparov will serve time in the strict regime colonies. Both ex-officials at the regional level were suspected of preparing an act of terrorism. The plane in which the head of the PFR office (Pension Fund of Russia) in the Republic of Dagestan Sagid Murtazaliyev was supposed to fly was planned to be shot down with the help of MANPADS on a mission received from Dzhaparov and Amirov. The court considered the evidence of the prosecution as exhaustive and sentenced the ex-mayors to real terms. The defendants pleaded not guilty.
Recall that the detention of Said Amirov took place in the summer of 2013, and was more like an episode from a Hollywood blockbuster. Representatives of the special services arrested Amirov right in his house, after which they drove by car to the helicopter, which the mayor was transported away from Makhachkala. At the same time, the quarter where Amirov lived was blocked by armored vehicles and military vehicles. Such security measures were later explained by the fact that a large extremist group could stand behind Amirov, which is ready to offer resistance and “repel” Amirov to the security forces.
Amirov served as the head of Makhachkala since 1998, and was considered one of the most influential officials in Dagestan.
