New Israeli sniper rifle IWI DAN
The Israeli company Israel Weapon Industries, Ltd. (IWI), founded about 9 years ago, after a series of reorganization procedures, operates under the “wing” of the SK Group (not to be confused with the Asian holding company of the same name). The company IWI participates in the development and produces various modifications of small weaponsmeeting the needs of the Israeli military and police units. The rifles produced by the company are widely known around the world due to their versatility and impressive reliability. These rifles are used not only by professional shooters from power structures, but also by civilian weapons connoisseurs. It is for such connoisseurs that special civilian modifications of Israeli small arms are developed, which are distributed in different countries: in North America, in the states of the Old World.
In Paris at the exhibition "EUROSATORY 2014", which became a real event not only for gunsmiths themselves, but also for small arms operators, IWI introduced a new model - this is a DAN sniper rifle, featuring a sliding gate. The peculiarity of this rifle is that its production took into account the wishes and comments of the most experienced shooters, including those from the IDF sniper units. The Israeli police also had the opportunity to make certain adjustments when creating a prototype of this sniper rifle.
The developers have analyzed several hundred requests from the military, police and special services of Israel. And only after that they started to create a new sniper weapon. The new DAN rifle has, as already noted, a sliding bolt. The upper part of the receiver of this weapon is made of special steel with a high anti-corrosion resistance. Weapon ammunition is produced by .338 Lapua Magnum cartridges that are placed in a detachable box-type magazine. The capacity of the store can not be called a record. These are total 10 cartridges. But ammunition is different in that the bullet fired after pressing the trigger has a very high energy.
The rifle is equipped with full-size Picatinny slats, on which you can install optics for accurate shooting at both stationary and moving targets. DAN developers have supplied a special adjustable butt in different planes. The butt adjustment function allows you to make shooting convenient in a variety of conditions. The stock is made of a fairly light metal alloy.
An ergonomic pistol grip specially developed by CAA Tactical is used to hold the DAN in the proper position. The barrel of the rifle has a length of almost 79 cm. It is made using cold forging technology and is equipped with a flame arrester and a muzzle brake. Both the flame arrester and the muzzle brake are integrated into a single whole, and allow the weapon to be supplemented with a special modular silencer.
The lower part of the receiver of an Israeli sniper rifle is made of an alloy based on aluminum. For the manufacture of the forearm applied the same alloy. At the same time, IWI keeps the secret about the exact composition of such an alloy, so that competitors cannot take advantage of the company's developments for their own purposes.
In addition to the above-mentioned full-size Picatinny rail, the weapon has several additional planks that allow you to equip your rifle with all sorts of tactical accessories. The rifle trigger is regulated by a certain force. The minimum effort - 1 kg, maximum - 2 kg. The developers of the rifle say about the impressive accuracy of shooting: no more than 1 MOA (1 angular minute) from a distance of 1,2 km.
Manual symmetrical safety lock is located above the pistol grip and allows you to block the trigger.
