It should be noted that the Central Research Institute EISU specializes in conducting military-economic research, creating information technologies for dual and military purposes, as well as developing and modernizing the technical bases of control and communication systems. The company has been working in the interests of the domestic defense industry for the past 45 years.
As reported by RIA "News", The new Russian tablet is based on a dual-core processor running at 1 GHz, and is equipped with 1 GB of RAM, two cameras (5MP and 0,3MP), a navigation system, as well as all modern communication modules (3G, Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, GSM, GPRS, EDGE). It is reported that the Russian tablet "slightly thicker iPad". At the same time, it can work at a depth of up to 30 meters for 1 minutes, can withstand a fall from a height of up to 2 meters, and is not afraid of abnormally high ambient temperatures (up to + 55 ° С). Also, the device is fully protected from dust.
The device is equipped with a “smart button”, which allows you to physically disable any modules that can transmit information (microphone, speaker, camera, 3G, Bluetooth, GPS and GLONASS) at any time. According to the Deputy Director General for Development of the Central Research Institute EISU Dmitry Petrov, installed on the tablet OS RoMOS (Russian Mobile Operating System) makes it impossible to install spyware on the tablet, and also excludes information leakage and wiretapping of the device.
The main difference of the OS “RoMOS” is that its certified open source code excludes bookmarks. On devices that are running this operating system, you can install programs that can not access personal user data. According to Dmitry Petrov, this operating system has built-in protection against spyware and malware, and also has a secure Internet connection.
The Russian OS "RoMOS" is based on the basis of the well-known to most users of the Android platform. At the same time, it uses domestic crypto-security solutions, there is a secure access to the Internet (including using VPN), built-in protection against malicious and spyware software. In addition, special tools were integrated into the operating system that allow users to register the connection of the intruders to the virtual base station.
According to the development team, thanks to the use of "own circuitry", protection is implemented in the tablet at the hardware level. Such a solution eliminates the possibility of information leakage, unauthorized direct or remote access to the device, as well as interception of its control. Perhaps, by the hardware level of protection, developers mean just the “smart button”, which was already mentioned above. In general, the information security tools implemented in the device comply with the requirements for protecting the 8 information of the FSB Center of the Russian Federation (КS-2): cryptographic data protection, protection against listening, and trusted application operation environment.
The tablet could be ready as early as 2012
It should be noted that the first Russian tablet, running under the “RoMOS” OS, was shown to Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Rogozin back in the 2012 year. Even then, the creators of the device said that they paid a lot of attention to the information security of the device and cryptographic functionality. For example, the Russian operating system did not allow the device to access the popular Google Play app store. In 2012, it was assumed that the tablet will be produced in two versions, civil and military - shockproof and waterproof. We planned to start mass production by the end of 2012. At the same time, the developers did not rule out the possibility of the appearance of a novelty in the civilian market at a price of approximately 15 thousand rubles. However, for what reason there was a delay in the appearance of a trial batch of data of mobile devices, the developers do not tell.
There is a version that the development time of the device was shifted in connection with the investigation, which was conducted by the Military Investigation Department of the IC of Russia, as well as in connection with the reorganization of the institute. The investigation was carried out against the former General Director of the Central Research Institute EISU Andrei Beltov, as well as his deputy Dmitry Ostrovsky. The leaders of the Central Research Institute EISU were suspected of group fraud committed on a particularly large scale (part 4 of the article 159 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation). At the end of 2013, the investigation made a statement that Beltov and Ostrovsky, acting together with other members of the criminal group, stole more than 500 million rubles, which were transferred to accounts of affiliated legal entities located in the United States. Both officials of the Russian Ministry of Defense were arrested at the end of 2013 of the year. Before joining the Central Research Institute EISU, both persons involved in the case worked for the contractor company of the Ramek-VS Defense Ministry, Beltov led the company and co-owned it, and Ostrovsky was his deputy.
In May last year, Russian Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev signed a decree on the transfer of the Central Research Institute EISU from the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation to the Ministry of Industry and Trade. At the same time there was a change of leadership of the institute. Anyway, in the summer of 2014, the Russian secured tablet with the Russian OS did get to the consumer. Currently, the device is undergoing testing in the departments concerned with it.
Touch interactive tables "Position"
Russian-made tablets are not the only new product that may appear in the Russian military. At present, touch interactive tables are being developed specifically for them, which are equipped with digital geographical maps embedded in them. With the help of such devices it will be possible to control the fighting. The representative of the Central Research Institute of EISU Dmitry Petrov told RIA Novosti about this.
Currently, the institute is working to create a geographic information system, which is called the “Position”, it is created on the basis of the ArcGIS software package, which is designed to work in secure operating systems with a protective database management system installed in them. “Position” is intended for storing, creating, processing and issuing users of a system of various types of geo-information data, solving analytical problems and developing specialized software.

According to Dmitry Petrov, the mobile version of this system is not there yet. Currently, it exists only in the stationary version, but this issue is being worked out. In this case, it is clear that the tablet is not suitable here, not the size. He noted that in the future, interactive tables can be made in different versions. For example, for use in the field, a robust case and well-protected glass are required, while for stationary use, simpler materials can be used.
The interviewee noted that the institute has already created a working group that is working on the creation of such a system. After consulting with representatives of certain departments, they expressed interest in such a product. Therefore, the development is in full swing in order to demonstrate the system "live" as soon as possible.
A modern geographic information system is a system for storing, collecting, analyzing and graphically displaying geographic data, as well as related information about certain objects. It is also a very handy tool that allows the system user to analyze, search and edit not only the digital map of the area, but also additional information about the objects on it. Such a device may be useful to the commander when planning and conducting operations on the ground.
