Russian military will receive "unsinkable" tablet, working on the Russian OS

52
In the Russian Federation, a tablet was created that works under the control of a domestic operating system (OS). It is reported that the presented model can work under water, it is protected from falls from heights and dust, and is not inferior to most modern devices of this type in its technical characteristics. The developer of the device is the Central Research Institute EISU - Central Research Institute for the Economy of Informatics and Control Systems. At present, two modifications of the device are presented - the usual (civilian version) and the version for the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation, which is made in a special impact-resistant case.

It should be noted that the Central Research Institute EISU specializes in conducting military-economic research, creating information technologies for dual and military purposes, as well as developing and modernizing the technical bases of control and communication systems. The company has been working in the interests of the domestic defense industry for the past 45 years.

As reported by RIA "News", The new Russian tablet is based on a dual-core processor running at 1 GHz, and is equipped with 1 GB of RAM, two cameras (5MP and 0,3MP), a navigation system, as well as all modern communication modules (3G, Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, GSM, GPRS, EDGE). It is reported that the Russian tablet "slightly thicker iPad". At the same time, it can work at a depth of up to 30 meters for 1 minutes, can withstand a fall from a height of up to 2 meters, and is not afraid of abnormally high ambient temperatures (up to + 55 ° С). Also, the device is fully protected from dust.

The device is equipped with a “smart button”, which allows you to physically disable any modules that can transmit information (microphone, speaker, camera, 3G, Bluetooth, GPS and GLONASS) at any time. According to the Deputy Director General for Development of the Central Research Institute EISU Dmitry Petrov, installed on the tablet OS RoMOS (Russian Mobile Operating System) makes it impossible to install spyware on the tablet, and also excludes information leakage and wiretapping of the device.

The main difference of the OS “RoMOS” is that its certified open source code excludes bookmarks. On devices that are running this operating system, you can install programs that can not access personal user data. According to Dmitry Petrov, this operating system has built-in protection against spyware and malware, and also has a secure Internet connection.

The Russian OS "RoMOS" is based on the basis of the well-known to most users of the Android platform. At the same time, it uses domestic crypto-security solutions, there is a secure access to the Internet (including using VPN), built-in protection against malicious and spyware software. In addition, special tools were integrated into the operating system that allow users to register the connection of the intruders to the virtual base station.

According to the development team, thanks to the use of "own circuitry", protection is implemented in the tablet at the hardware level. Such a solution eliminates the possibility of information leakage, unauthorized direct or remote access to the device, as well as interception of its control. Perhaps, by the hardware level of protection, developers mean just the “smart button”, which was already mentioned above. In general, the information security tools implemented in the device comply with the requirements for protecting the 8 information of the FSB Center of the Russian Federation (КS-2): cryptographic data protection, protection against listening, and trusted application operation environment.

The tablet could be ready as early as 2012

It should be noted that the first Russian tablet, running under the “RoMOS” OS, was shown to Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Rogozin back in the 2012 year. Even then, the creators of the device said that they paid a lot of attention to the information security of the device and cryptographic functionality. For example, the Russian operating system did not allow the device to access the popular Google Play app store. In 2012, it was assumed that the tablet will be produced in two versions, civil and military - shockproof and waterproof. We planned to start mass production by the end of 2012. At the same time, the developers did not rule out the possibility of the appearance of a novelty in the civilian market at a price of approximately 15 thousand rubles. However, for what reason there was a delay in the appearance of a trial batch of data of mobile devices, the developers do not tell.

The building of the Central Research Institute EISU in Moscow

There is a version that the development time of the device was shifted in connection with the investigation, which was conducted by the Military Investigation Department of the IC of Russia, as well as in connection with the reorganization of the institute. The investigation was carried out against the former General Director of the Central Research Institute EISU Andrei Beltov, as well as his deputy Dmitry Ostrovsky. The leaders of the Central Research Institute EISU were suspected of group fraud committed on a particularly large scale (part 4 of the article 159 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation). At the end of 2013, the investigation made a statement that Beltov and Ostrovsky, acting together with other members of the criminal group, stole more than 500 million rubles, which were transferred to accounts of affiliated legal entities located in the United States. Both officials of the Russian Ministry of Defense were arrested at the end of 2013 of the year. Before joining the Central Research Institute EISU, both persons involved in the case worked for the contractor company of the Ramek-VS Defense Ministry, Beltov led the company and co-owned it, and Ostrovsky was his deputy.

In May last year, Russian Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev signed a decree on the transfer of the Central Research Institute EISU from the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation to the Ministry of Industry and Trade. At the same time there was a change of leadership of the institute. Anyway, in the summer of 2014, the Russian secured tablet with the Russian OS did get to the consumer. Currently, the device is undergoing testing in the departments concerned with it.

Touch interactive tables "Position"

Russian-made tablets are not the only new product that may appear in the Russian military. At present, touch interactive tables are being developed specifically for them, which are equipped with digital geographical maps embedded in them. With the help of such devices it will be possible to control the fighting. The representative of the Central Research Institute of EISU Dmitry Petrov told RIA Novosti about this.

Currently, the institute is working to create a geographic information system, which is called the “Position”, it is created on the basis of the ArcGIS software package, which is designed to work in secure operating systems with a protective database management system installed in them. “Position” is intended for storing, creating, processing and issuing users of a system of various types of geo-information data, solving analytical problems and developing specialized software.

Russian military will receive "unsinkable" tablet, working on the Russian OS

According to Dmitry Petrov, the mobile version of this system is not there yet. Currently, it exists only in the stationary version, but this issue is being worked out. In this case, it is clear that the tablet is not suitable here, not the size. He noted that in the future, interactive tables can be made in different versions. For example, for use in the field, a robust case and well-protected glass are required, while for stationary use, simpler materials can be used.

The interviewee noted that the institute has already created a working group that is working on the creation of such a system. After consulting with representatives of certain departments, they expressed interest in such a product. Therefore, the development is in full swing in order to demonstrate the system "live" as soon as possible.

A modern geographic information system is a system for storing, collecting, analyzing and graphically displaying geographic data, as well as related information about certain objects. It is also a very handy tool that allows the system user to analyze, search and edit not only the digital map of the area, but also additional information about the objects on it. Such a device may be useful to the commander when planning and conducting operations on the ground.

          It would be better to write that a tablet and an operating system for it, which was written on the basis of the Android 4.1 kernel (or maybe 4.0 or 4.2), were developed by order of the Moscow Region. Better a tablet from Motorola than from RUSNANO, the US-Chinese will at least work somehow. Then another question is when will he enter the army? when completely out of date or a little earlier?

    installed on the tablet OS “RoMOS” (Russian mobile operating system) makes it impossible to install spyware on the tablet, and also eliminates information leakage and wiretapping of the device.
    - A very loud statement!
    и
    The Russian OS "ROMOS" is based on the Android platform well known to most users.

    This is possible if only:
    a) In general, prohibit the installation of any applications - sell "as is" with a fixed set of applications and, in the event of modifications / improvements, recall the tablets or change them to new ones, which is very ineffective and expensive (I'm generally silent about the civilian version).

    b) Make a super sandbox - when applications cannot exchange data with each other. It will be possible to install malware, but there will be no sense from this.
    But such a solution, in fact, castrates the OS.

    All other options are Alain Nobi, Nostra Alice! laughing

    For reference: So far, no OS has solved the problem of protection against malware ... wink

      You correctly assessed the features of the OS, etc., but did not pay attention to the main question: "WHAT KOZE BAYAN?" What is this tablet for? So that gentlemen officers can visit porn sites more freely or, nevertheless, for business? We do not consider the civilian version - it is stillborn. If for business, then for what? Not a word about this in the article. Maybe a truncated OS will be enough for solving specific problems. And the main emphasis placed on protection against penetration, albeit by cutting off the ends, is the most appropriate? Then all is well, and the Sino-Russian slightly castrated development has a right to exist. Especially for equipping combat ichteanders! smile

        I see - you are not in the subject.
        There are no "stripped-down" OSes - so it can only be said about a clone that a new OS is a "stripped-down" other OS.
        The OS should not be responsible for custom functionality. She is responsible (ochch.rubo) for providing applications with hardware resources.
        So the functionality is determined mainly applications.

        But you do not know the life cycle of applications - and this is (very rough) development -> development + support -> disposal.

        At one time, a good application is not done - there are always flaws, misconceptions about needs and commonplace bugs. They are eliminated during the second stage.
        So here is how to update the application? And how to add new ones - life does not stand still.? Update data - for example, add maps? There are many questions.

    Yes, the filling is weak, it will slow down under load. It is interesting that for a percentage. For 15000 it is expensive. The civilian version is not promising, you can’t install other programs, it’s easier and cheaper to buy another. I hope these are only the first steps in this field and it will be better further.

    Everything is written about this "Russian tablet". http://www.mobile-review.com/articles/2014/birulki-284.shtml#s3

    To whom too lazy to read, that’s the essence. I quote:

    How much will this outdated tablet cost? It does not matter. The most important thing is that these people have been involved in the project for two years and have not achieved any results. They took a commercial product that is already on sale, added a minimum of software there and drew the splash screen of their institute - but even that took two years. All this time, these people received a salary from our taxes, and their effectiveness, as you know, is slightly more than zero. It makes me nervous. And even more jarring when they try to present this shame as pride. During this period, it was possible to create from scratch a device with fundamentally different characteristics, unique in every sense. There are engineers, there is an understanding of the market, there is experience. But there is a small problem - these people work, and not just eat taxpayer money. And, apparently, they are not on the way with officials.

    As soon as conscience allows to give out completely (!!!) a foreign product for domestic development. fool Another cut of budget money. Ugh, disgrace! Kill the wall, proffesory.

    There Motorola flaunts there, this manufacturer has not yet been sold to Chinese Lenovo, it is still an American company. Moreover, the Motorola division that produces this tablet works for the US Department of Defense and does not fall under the deal with Lenovo, ”Murtazin writes.

    The tablet is based on the 10-inch Motorola model, released in March 2012. The device is based on a dual-core chipset from TI with a frequency of up to 1,2 GHz, RAM - 1 GB. The chipset allows you to install only Android 4.1.x, installation of versions 4.3 and 4.4 is not possible. In terms of cost, these Motorola tablets cannot be expensive - even in a minimal batch, the price of these illiquid assets can be around $ 250, the analyst points out.

    “These people have been involved in the project for two years and have not achieved any results. They took a commercial product that is already on sale, added a minimum of software there and drew the splash screen of their institute - but even that took two years, ”he says.

    The choice of a supplier that has a long and close relationship with the US Department of Defense looks rather ambiguous, Murtazin notes. The analyst does not exclude the fact that this is a deliberate step taken by pests who want to undermine Russia's defense.

Almost all comments to this article are almost 100% close to reality both from a technical and an economic point of view. Do not think that I want to sow the seeds of pessimism, on the contrary - I really want optimistic news, BUT! .. In real life, everything is much worse. Yes, in the early 2000s, the RF Ministry of Defense was concerned about the state of information support in the Armed Forces, but HOW! According to the principle "make the fool pray to God, he will break his forehead":
      - there is NO common idea for building an ACS / ASBU, multi-level information networks;
      - communication channels - in slavery at various departments, the bureaucracy blisses out;
      - "serious hardware" (server workstations, crypto-routers, etc.) - solid import, the same applies to the accompanying software;
      - personal "hardware" - workstations (workstations) of both local and network use - outright rubbish, many times overbought and "paired" to our troops through the "black hole" of "Oboronservis" (example? please! A PC that is in any store you can take it for 20 thousand rubles, in the end comes according to documents costing ... 75-80 thousand !!! Throw in some more special means for checking in "accredited" organizations - what if "foe bugs"? - the purchase of tomographs is resting;
      - counterintelligence agencies, protection services of the State Secret (I ask you to excuse me in advance - not your fault) - well, they were not trained from the officers of the system administrator! - look with longing at the "new gate" and feverishly nurture the "inquisitive minds of the Lomonosovs";
      - finally, in order to collect all this motley variety into something more or less functioning, specialists need to be trivial. By the way: in 2014, the State contract for the maintenance of ICT facilities in the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation has not yet been concluded.
      Heart is breaking. "Much knowledge brings many sorrows" ...

    They climbed out the couch troops !!! And the processor is not the same, and the software is left. Like, I have a better one ... Hamsters, this machine has a very simple task. Communication. Feedback. Glonass. Data processing. Building a picture. Everything. That for crap are you talking about processors, about Linix !? It is clear that there may be bookmarks, and other "worms". So do it, if you will. I, personally, liked it. And they think the rubles are budget ... You, in trenches, under the bullets you will quickly forget everything. And about smartphones, with playing tablets. This is a concrete, functional thing, sharpened for field conditions. Amen!

      And will there be WI-FI communication on the battlefield? Data encryption at the software level with foreign hardware is wrecking, even if you drag the stray separately for security, there is always the risk of hardware laying galvanically not connected to the board. And this is an additional burden on the PRTK and radio intelligence .

    Yes you are right. As practice shows, not a single country in the world can live independently, without "something" from other countries. And I think it is useless to fight this, this is such a cunning idea of the universe.

    For 2 years, 20 snouts mastered to compile android using a ready-made tablet from a dead Motorola corporation - this is an undoubted achievement and an occasion to be proud of. IP67 phones / tablets have been used for a long time and they don’t even do this for warriors. Stupidly sitting on this shovel-shaped figovina and crushing the screen, you can then use it as a board for cutting bread / meat / vegetables, i.e. Functionality will increase, and if you sharpen the edges, it will be more like a throwing weapon. They googled the laptop for the military, rode it on the tank, threw the hard drive from the stairs and survived.

    Take the example of dill. They dug the Black Sea, but here we have Motorola, a native Russian company, coupled with Android.

    They would write about the production, at least small-scale, of processors and RAM, of Russian-assembled chipsets in domestic factories, even if they were stripped from Americans or Japs. We have a lot of smart people with super ideas, but this is where the technologists and production workers are?

    I doubt that they have Android, there are several gigs of code there, and the radio modules are proprietary - without source code. Total for certification showed how famously recompiled the code that downloaded from the Internet.

    7 gigs and it was half a year ago - I collected my firmware for cheeses from China. For most of the iron, raw materials are open, but there are also closed essnos. We’re talking about a military piece of iron, right? They opened all the codes for the warriors, along with the rotting corpse of a motorola - this is a bonus.

    This is a variant of Motorola, not accepted by the state Department of Defense due to the low impact resistance of the corps. Naturally, nobody rewrote the code.
    This is not just a shameless cut of money, but also an article that can be classified as a betrayal. Homeland. Issue amerovskie tablets with "bookmarks" to the army! NSA gives a standing ovation.
