The Russian Ministry of Defense buys a domestic helicopter, created specifically for foreign armies.

The multipurpose attack helicopter Mi-35M for the first time will go into service with the Russian army. The contract amount is estimated at 10-12 billion rubles.

The decision to purchase Mi-35M was taken by the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation. This was announced at the annual meeting of shareholders by the general director of the Rostov helicopter plant Boris Slyusar. According to him, the leadership of the Ministry of Defense draws up an order for 22 aircraft of this model. Deliveries will be made from 2010 to 2015 year. Thanks to the state order, the enterprise will be provided with loading for many years.

The production of the Mi-35 series combat transport helicopter began at the Rostov plant in 1986. It is an export version of the famous "flying tank"Mi-24, also produced in Rostov-on-Don." Foreigner "differs from the basic model in the composition of its armament and somewhat altered appearance. These machines are in service with the armies of 20 states, including the Czech Republic, Afghanistan, Venezuela. Recently, Mi-35 was purchased Brazilian Air Force.

The "thirty-fifth" was never supplied to the Russian army, since the basis of the army aviation our country was precisely the Mi-24. Depending on the tasks, this model can act on the battlefield not only as a combat helicopter, but also as a carrier of landing and vehicles.

A few years ago, the military decided to completely update the helicopter fleet of the Ground Forces. An all-weather attack helicopter Mi-28H, a “night hunter,” which was launched at the Rostov plant, was to replace the deserved “twenty-four”. The Commander-in-Chief of the Air Force set the task of acquiring 300 of such helicopters within a few years.

However, for various reasons, rearmament is slow. Rostovites pass the customer only two cars a year. True, experts explain this by the difficulties of the transition period. In the near future, the release volume of "night hunters" is planned to be tripled.

Although the Mi-28 only recently rolled off the assembly line, it showed good export potential. Thus, for the Algerian army, the production of dual-control Mi-28HE and digital radio-electronic equipment was started. Especially for foreign buyers, a combat training helicopter Mi-28НУ is being created in Rostov. In August of this year, the plant will take part in a tender for the supply of heavy transport helicopters to India.

By the way

The Rostov Helicopter Plant is included in the list of strategic enterprises in Russia, which receive state support. Last year 178 million rubles were transferred from the federal budget for these purposes, which is 2,5 times the amount of funding from the previous year.
