Museum of the Strategic Missile Forces in Balabanovo

In some miserable 100 km from Moscow along the Kiev highway, there is a wonderful museum of strategic rocket forces at the base of the RVSN training center. Visitors in a huge hangar can admire almost the entire history Soviet rocket science from the P-2 to Topol and even an educational mockup of a mine command center mounted here.
True, there is one minus - a museum on the territory of a military unit and therefore ordinary people are not allowed in there, but complex ones are allowed in, but they are not allowed to photograph much.

Museum of the Strategic Missile Forces in Balabanovo

In the open area lined up various cars Strategic Missile Forces. Not without the "main" - Topol. Distinguishing Poplar RT-2PM from Topol-M RT-2PM2 is easy on the wheels - the first 7 modification of wheel sets

Mounted the whole thing on the chassis of the MAZ-7917 - 15У168. If the Soviet times in the manufacture of Topol took part many republics of the USSR, now in the Topol-M of foreign production only the chassis (Belarus, Minsk Wheel Tractor Plant - MZKT)

Fuel consumption per 100 km - 200 liters. When tanks in 800 liters of this is enough for 400 km. Next you need to wait for the tanker, or in an emergency, pour the diesel out of the support machine, which follows along with the starting complex and other necessary machines.

It looks like the driver's seat. That's right, the smallest area here is given to the windows (so as not to be frightened by the horrors of nuclear war)

Everything is very easily controlled, automatic transmission, etc.

Two pedals, the brake chokes with his left foot.

Immediately behind the driver I already forgot who is sitting, but in front of him is a beautiful telegraph, which was not allowed to photograph

The commander goes to the right in a separate booth. In winter, in a fur coat there is very closely. In the new modification of Topol, this deficiency was eliminated

According to the clever machine is called "Assembly 15U168". Accordingly, this unit, based on the MAZ-7917 chassis, carries the 15Ж58 rocket in the transport and launch container. The container maintains the required temperature and humidity conditions using any heaters, coolers and dryers. A solid-fuel rocket is sensitive to sudden changes in temperature, so even though it can be stored at temperatures from -50 to + 50, but the main thing is not to allow abrupt changes.

I forgot about the most secret - gyrocompass. Previously, he was so secret that it was impossible to even look at the right side of the car. Now you can look at the side, but the compass is strictly covered.

Next, go to the combat duty support vehicle - MOBD, unit 15В148.
It is mounted on the MAZ-543М chassis and serves as a power station for a “rocket engine” (two diesel generators for 30 kW each), as well as for the life support of personnel up to 10 people

Inside one quadruple and one double coupe

In such a cozy atmosphere you can comfortably go to the position from which you destroy the world.

In order not to chop up the sheets, there is a separate dining room for meals, in which you can chop up staff cards and press them down with glasses of dried fruit compote

Dining without a kitchen - money down the drain. Therefore, a separate compartment takes the kitchen. To the right is a stove, to the left is a fridge

In the refrigerator, everything is on the shelves so that the herring and sausage are not mixed when shaken across the fields and meadows

In general, there should be no problems with food. Is that I have not found a box for orange and strawberries

The water is cold, the water is hot - whatever you want

Somewhere in the corridor is the electrical room

And the device of radiation and chemical reconnaissance GO-27

Also in the corridor are placed dryers and hangers for shoes and clothes.

In the tail is a compartment with a machine-gun turret and communications equipment, which, despite its 30 age, is still secret and cannot be photographed.
By the way, here such a wonderful car is sold for only 650 thousand rubles.

Then came such secret machines that even remembering them is not good. Therefore, we proceed immediately to the training starts.
This is a model of a mine command post where officers train in firing rockets.

Now I just received a command to start ...

... and the rockets flew to the US (or maybe not, although where are they still to fly?). Now you can relax, buckle up and wait for the impact of enemy missiles (we ourselves are not the first to shoot, but only in response).

The most beautiful is the exposition of rockets located in a huge building. Unfortunately, there was not allowed to shoot everywhere, because in some places missiles are in service

The rockets are arranged in chronological order of their creation and it is possible to visually trace how our power and engineering thought developed. Unfortunately, only the very first Soviet ballistic missile P-1, copies of the German V-2, which in the dense 1950-e were forgotten to keep for history, is missing

Even from the minuses - you can not see at least a mock of a nuclear charge. Here is a false goal and, they say, it is approximately similar to the real one.

Also in the building built life-size mine command post. The heights for the two floors were not enough and they are placed separately

Inside there are also remotes for launching rockets and training for cadets. They were not allowed to take pictures there, although our Ukrainian friends turned everything into an open museum long ago.
But they showed a living room, which is somewhat different from what I had seen earlier in the Ukrainian counterpart

And for the first time I saw what a mining toilet like the Strategic Missile Forces looked like.

Thanks to the press club of the Ministry of Defense, as well as all the officers, not officers and other good people who gave us a great tour!
