Color projection display with “through view” function from BAE systems

The Q-Warrior system from BAE Systems

A specialist in projection displays (the first was installed in the Buccaneer attack aircraft in the 1958 year), BAE Systems, introduced the first waveguide version in the 2012 year. This new technology allows you to manipulate and control the luminous flux between two sheets of glass that work as a waveguide. This offers many advantages, and the first is the compactness of this solution (reduced weight, volume and cost), which makes it possible to eliminate configurations with complex optics typical of existing projection displays. Since the image is inserted and not projected, a bulky projector is eliminated. Finally, waveguide projection displays have a much larger amplitude of eye movement compared to traditional systems, which allows the user to see the correct image, even if not completely adjusted. The first two products developed by BAE Systems, in which a new technology was applied, were LiteHUD, a compact, lightweight, fully digital version for aerial applications, and Q-Sight, a modular, monocular, clip-on system that can improve the situational awareness of commanders and drivers. and shooters vehicles.

At DSEI 2013, the last option was shown - a Q-Warrior “through view” display for a dismounted soldier. The new display has a 40 ° x30 ° field of view and is capable of delivering color images with full color saturation. It is equipped with a function of tracking free space, which allows you to bind to the terrain through symbols and images. Q-Warrior is compatible with night vision goggles and thus provides a seamless day-night transition. In the current configuration, the system is at the stage of technology demonstration and is installed on a guide on the left side of the soldier’s helmet in order to leave the right eye free to aim from weapons. It is not yet clear how constructive design can be refined to obtain a more balanced solution; the system will be refined before it enters the market. However, the new technology looks quite promising in terms of balance of characteristics, weight and cost. The target value of its system, BAE Systems, has defined US dollars in 15000.

Again computer toys. For fabulous prices. I recall the problem of the Americans during the second war in Iraq. And all of their bells and whistles suddenly went out for the simple reason that there was nothing to charge them. they just didn’t think about the issue with the chargers and where to stick them in the field.

Good thing for those who know how to use. No one is safe from human stupidity and accident.

And why do you think of the Americans, such bad fighters on land. With electronic gadgets like theirs, the war is like a banal computer shooter, and when it all breaks down, turns off, and they face situations where everything depends only on you, then they understand that a real war is not a game, and then your blood may be shed, and not only the blood of your "enemies" !!!

They are not such bad warriors on land. I'm not with their marines
I would like to meet and feel what three lungs are
machine gun for each compartment. And I would not advise you sincerely.

our helmet-mounted target designator is considered one of the best, and who knows in Ratnik it is or its analogue

An interesting thing, I hope ours will buy a test.

You get used to the toys, and then: the field conditions are crossed, a swamp, cold and heat, a vigorous explosion, etc. They opa and disconnected, and what to do?

Look with your eyes, what else?
Imagine: you have field binoculars or an optical sight. And suddenly it is damaged.
End of the world? - No. Fighting further without binoculars or without a sight.

Then no one will be interested in where to recharge and what to do, they will have to fight in the old fashioned way, with maps, a compass, a curvimeter and a wired telephone, aiming through the "dovetail", determine the distance through ordinary optics (Although now almost all devices are trying to make them resistant to EMP ) ...

It will take some patience to train
    soldier use such displays.
But night vision devices are not immediately used.

Such a thing will find its niche. Yes, for the mass equipment of the ground forces it will be very expensive and not advisable, but for individual specialists and special groups (UAV operators, artillery gunners) it can become a very convenient tool.

Where is the world heading? UAVs can be controlled from smartphones. Displays are built in glasses ... I would like to know more about this technology. "new technology allows to manipulate and control the luminous flux between two sheets of glass, which act as a waveguide" This is something new! And it would be more and cheaper to make glasses using this technology for civilians and not just for warriors. To me, who constantly wears them, they would be very useful. There you can display the clock, the map of the area, the temperature and much more.

Especially when an adversary with technical superiority puts you in a place where the sun never shines. Uriapatrioty-forgot June 22? It seems like a mournful anniversary recently.
Lagging behind advanced warfare technologies can come sideways.

And why did you mention this on June 22, 41? And do you consider the strategic mistakes of the command of the technical backwardness of the Red Army?

The inability to withstand tank wedges, if there is nothing, this is not a strategy but a lack of armament.
And what does the strategy have to do with it? There is no arguing against a tank with a rifle.
