By declaring a truce, Kiev is trying to negotiate with the self-proclaimed republics.
ITAR-TASS reports that the President of Ukraine, Petro Poroshenko, in a telephone conversation with German Chancellor Angela Merkel, suggested including inspectors from Russia on the OSCE observation mission, so that they could be convinced that Ukraine had implemented the ceasefire regime.
The leaders of the countries also discussed the work of the contact group on the peaceful settlement of the situation in the east of Ukraine, which includes the Ukrainian ex-president Leonid Kuchma and the representative of the OSCE Secretary General Heidi Tagliavini.
Merkel welcomed Kiev’s peace initiatives and hoped that the parties would do their best to achieve peace.
