NEXTER's TITUS armored vehicle tested in the Middle East
The TITUS armored vehicle (tactical infantry carrier and general purpose system - Tactical Infantry Transport and Utility System), created by Nexter, is being tested in two unnamed countries of the Persian Gulf. Denis Pinoto, vice president of marketing for the company, said that the test BTR TITUS 6x6 is being tested in one of the countries of the Persian Gulf since early April. BTR is expected to move to the second country of the region in the second half of the year.
The shipment agreement for the two countries was signed in February after TITUS was first introduced at DSEI in September 2013.
Pinoto also confirmed that a second TITUS machine is being manufactured, a more powerful engine with an 500 horsepower capacity will be installed on it. It is clear that this will be just a modification.
He said that the car will be finished at the end of this year, and the inclusion of any additional modifications will be based on the test results in the Persian Gulf. The Nexter team accompanies the machine to assist in testing and data collection.
With a base weight of 17 tons, the TITUS machine has a combat weight of 23 tons, but with an additional payload of 4 tons it can reach 27 tons. The BTR has a width of 2,55 m, a height of 2,73 m and a length of 7,55 m, an internal volume of 14,4 m 3, which allows for different layout solutions of the internal compartments.
The capacity of the storage compartments is inside the 2,4 m3 and outside the 1,5 m3, the modular concept of the machine and its electronic architecture allows you to install additional STANAG protection on the base BTR 2 level to STANAG 4 level.
