The manufacturer recommends this armored personnel carrier for armament of the Ukrainian armed forces, as well as for armies of other countries. It was designed and constructed at the Morozov Machine Building Design Bureau. The BTR-3EX1 has great chances to win back its niche in the light armored vehicle market.

The BTR-3EX1 armored personnel carrier is a wheeled amphibious assault vehicle weighing 16 tons. It has high firepower and mobility. The crew consists of 9 people: the commander of the machine, the gunner, the driver and six paratroopers.

On the armored personnel carrier, presented at the exhibition, a combat module from the Belgian company CMI Defense was installed.

This combat module is a medium-caliber combat unit installation with remote control. It is a derivative of the Cockerill Defense Battle Module (CPWS), designed for guns whose caliber is millimeters 20-25-30. In the Ukrainian version, a 30 caliber millimeter gun ZTM-1 of Ukrainian design and production was installed. The rate of fire of the ZTM-1 cannon is on the order of 300 rounds per minute. The ammunition of the gun consists of 150 shots placed in the ammunition boxes of this module. Several types of shots can be used if the cannon is equipped with a double feed system.

The Cockerill combat module itself is able to protect the gun not only from ballistic threats, but also from environmental influences. In addition, it allows the crew to recharge weapon from under the armor.

The gun itself is fully stabilized, so you can direct it vertically in the range from -10 to + 45 degrees. The panoramic sight, which is provided with an elevation angle of up to + 60 degrees, as well as a dual-mode day and night sighting stabilized system equipped with a laser rangefinder, can be easily integrated using the standard CAN architecture.

The combat module at the request of the customer may have a hatch, which is very convenient for the commander to use for a direct view of the surroundings.

Standard armor provides a level of protection 1. Armor can be enhanced to level 5 by installing additional mounted armor.

If we talk about the chassis, the BTR-3E1 is equipped with the Ukrainian diesel engine UTD-20, assembled in Tokmak on the Pivdenizelmash. Its power is 300 horsepower, and it can be successfully operated at temperatures up to +50 degrees in the shade. It should be noted that this engine is very simple and unpretentious to use, and in addition it is universal, because it can be refueled not only with diesel fuel, but also aviation kerosene. This engine has a power reserve of about 750 kilometers on the highway. Power plants of not only Ukrainian as well as foreign manufacturers can also be installed on a Ukrainian armored vehicle.

On the BTR-3EX1 installed manual transmission, which greatly reduces the cost of the armored personnel carrier. All the wheels of the armored personnel carrier (eight of them) can be “dressed” not only in domestic tires from Dneproshina, but also in modern tires from the French manufacturer Michelin. It should be noted that the tires from the Ukrainian manufacturer are excellent for hot climates and make it possible to maximize the engine power, so that the armored personnel carrier can reach speeds on the way to 100 kilometers per hour.

The body of the machine is welded, equipped with Ukrainian-made armored steel. The armor is reinforced with an additional layer of Kevlar. Thanks to such armor, the crew of the armored personnel carrier is protected from 12,7 caliber bullets. The design of armor in the undercarriage provides good protection against an explosion when hitting an anti-tank mine. The height of the troop compartment is increased, which allows the crew to feel more comfortable. In addition, an air conditioner can be installed on the armored personnel carrier.

Armored personnel carrier BTR-3EX1 - floating. Water jet is located in the aft hull. In order to overcome the water barrier, the driver needs, without leaving the car, to lift the water deflector plate and turn on the bilge pumps. The speed of the car in the water is 10 kilometers per hour.

Installed on an armored vehicle and protection devices from the effects of penetrating radiation in the explosion of nuclear weapons, to protect against radioactive dust, toxic substances and bacterial means when driving an armored personnel carrier through contaminated areas.

The BTR-3-1 armored personnel carrier is equipped with a panoramic panoramic video camera, which, if necessary, extends above the combat module on a special rod and thus provides a circular view in the near zone around the vehicle.

If we talk about the standard BTR-3EX1, then the manufacturer has provided for the installation on it of an uninhabited remote-controlled Sturm module, whose weight is 1,3 tons. The effectiveness of this weapon is achieved by the sighting and observation complex and the Track fire control system. A thermal imager can be integrated into the system. The detection range and target recognition depends on the characteristics of the selected thermal imaging camera.

In addition, this armored personnel carrier can also be used to install a new Ukrainian-made Sarmat combat module, which, by the way, was also presented at an exhibition in Paris. The manufacturer first demonstrated this development. The state enterprise “GossKKB“ Luch ”, which is part of the concern“ Ukroboronprom ”, designed and manufactured the module.

"Sarmat" is intended for installation on military vehicles, small ships, as well as coast guard boats. According to the director of the enterprise Oleg Korostelev, this combat module is designed to destroy moving and fixed armored targets that are equipped with combined, monolithic or spaced armor. These can be small-sized targets with dynamic protection, in particular, Tanks in trenches, long-range firing points, hovering helicopters, lightly armored targets, surface targets. The effectiveness of the complex is the same in the daytime and at night.

The Sarmat includes: a turntable with guides for rockets, a power unit, a guidance device, a machine gun, a thermal imager, a remote control, and two PK-2С or 4 РК-3 guided missiles that are placed in transport and launch containers. The rockets were also produced at the Luch enterprise. The range of the combat module when firing the PK-2C missile is 5 kilometers, the PK-3 is 2,5 kilometers, and the machine gun is 1,8 kilometers. Thanks to the pointing device, which was produced at the Izyum Instrument-Making Plant, accurate target guidance and missile flight control are provided up to a kilometer away from 5,5. The process of targeting and tracking the target is implemented through a gear turning mechanism.

By the way, this Ukrainian combat module Sarmat has already been installed on the Canadian-made Varan 6 × 6 armored personnel carrier presented at the exhibition. In addition, the Canadian company presented at the exhibition the Warrior combat vehicle with the Belarusian missile anti-tank complex "Hornet-D" and Ukrainian missiles RK-2, produced by the same state design bureau "Luch".

Thus, it can be said that Ukrainian enterprises have achieved a high level of technological and technical integration with international manufacturers.
