China and Russia do not want GMO
The other day the correspondent of the TV channel "RT" Alexey Yaroshevsky talked about this topic with experts.
Today in Europe they argue about bans and permits products with GMOs. And in the Celestial Empire they did it hard: from that time they decided not to buy corn from the United States.
Imports of American corn in the PRC declined significantly. The Wall Street Journal writes that American trading companies were short of more than half a billion dollars, because China was one of the largest importers of corn. However, in 2014, corn exports to China from the United States declined by 85%. There is one reason: in Chinese society, they don’t want to eat genetically modified products.
There is another reason: the desire of the Middle Kingdom to become as independent as possible from imports.
Torsten Pattberg, an agricultural researcher at the Institute for Basic Research, told the correspondent:
“RT” recalls that recently the Russian Prime Minister said that Russia wants to refrain from purchasing genetically modified products. Experts believe that Moscow and Beijing could start trading in corn and other grains.
And these experts looked like they were in the water.
The site Interfax It was reported that the importers of China intend to seek allocation of quotas for the supply of Russian grain to the country.
The official representative of Rosselkhoznadzor, Alexei Alekseenko, told Interfax that such an intention was announced during negotiations between representatives of quarantine services and business of the two states held in Manchuria: “We agreed that Chinese businessmen will turn to the government to give Russia a quota for the supply of grain they have a great interest in our wheat, barley and rye. ”
Comrade Alekseenko noted that Russian grain is now “passing” according to Chinese requirements: after all, the Rosselkhoznadzor guarantees its safety under the laws of the PRC.
That's not all: China plans to buy Russian rape. Alekseenko said: “A processing plant was commissioned in Manchuria, which will mainly use Russian raw materials, and, as Chinese experts have pointed out, imported rape should not contain GMOs.”
Oleg Butusov ("Reedus") recalls why the Chinese do not like food with GMOs so much. In total, the author identified three reasons. No, not theoretical, but practical. Those same, because of which, and "rebelled" Chinese society. And after the society - and the government.
First, in 2008, Americans experienced golden rice in Chinese — genetically modified rice enriched in beta-carotene. The product, as it turned out in December 2012, was tested on children, with the basic information kept secret from the parents. Because of the scandals in the press, Chinese officials who conducted the tests of "golden rice" were dismissed. Scientists also said that it is necessary to prohibit the importation of genetically modified crops into the country.
Secondly, there were reports of the death of tens of thousands of pigs in Anhui Province. It was believed that the culprit was corn "Xianyu 335" produced by "Pioneer".
Thirdly, in July last year, the Ministry of Agriculture of the People's Republic of China allowed the import from the USA of three varieties of transgenic soybeans. But in Sina Weibo, where Chinese bloggers began to comment on the government’s decision, photos of mice with swollen organs quickly spread: they tested American soybeans on these very mice.
Then among the population polls were conducted. As it turned out, 78% of Chinese believe that GMOs can adversely affect people's health.
To this we must add that the "enlightened" democratic governments of Chinese prejudice against GMOs do not feed.
Take, for example, Latvia. There, in relation to products with GMOs everything is in order. Someone has to eat the American "corn"!
According to "City.lv" With reference to prodmagazin.ru, in Latvia they can lift the moratorium on the cultivation of genetically modified crops. This was reported in the Ministry of Agriculture.
The publication reminds that almost all volosts have signed a document in the Ministry of Environmental Protection of Latvia, according to which they declare themselves “GMO free zones”. However, the Ministry of Land Landing decided to discuss with local representatives “the possibility of growing GM crops”. The result is predetermined: in case of refusal, the “opportunity” will simply be imposed - as another “strict wish” on the part of the European Union.
Unlike wise China, Latvia intends to grow just corn (N810), as well as rapeseed and beets. Then come the turn of soybeans and potatoes.
Today, in the homeland of GMOs, I mean in the USA, 70% of all corn is mutated, and soybeans and rape are already 96%.
As for the EU countries, then, the newspaper notes, the European Commission has already given the go-ahead for planting mutated potatoes and rapeseed. Protests in many EC countries do not care. Business is nothing personal. Many GM crops are grown in the US, and Washington is pushing the interests of its companies in Europe.
As for Russia, Latvians write:
And there was a tiny chance that, from this summer, GM crops would not be planted at our borders. Most likely, the situation with the US sanctions has affected it. It was the States that were to supply GM seeds to Russia, but Ukraine "saved from mutants."
The Medvedev government, let us add to this, is indeed hardly guided by the situation. In April, after the submission of the government’s report, Dmitry Medvedev in the State Duma declared that Russia could feed itself without genetically modified products. “We do not know completely whether the genetically modified material is absolute evil or it does not contain such problems. Therefore, we need to see what will happen in the coming years. And Russia is capable of feeding itself without genetically modified products, ”he quotes. RIA News".
However, in December last year, when V. Putin demanded to develop a program to ban the import of GMOs, D. Medvedev, as if wishing to fulfill the will of the president in his own way, signed a decree on growing transgenic plants in Russia. Reported by Gazeta.ru.
It was about the regulatory legal act No. 839, signed by the Prime Minister of 23 in September of 2013. According to this decree, starting from 1 in June of 2014, Russia must introduce the registration of products with the content of genetically modified organisms, which, as the public activists assured, is a permission for it mass production.
According to the director of the National Association for Genetic Safety, Elena Sharoykina, the actions of the authorities say "about the absence of an agreed position on GMOs."
It turns out, let us add to this that the West imposed sanctions against Russia (primarily the United States) and a crisis in Ukraine hit Washington boomerang: let the White House push the interests of its farmers in Brussels, but now they will not pass in Russia.
We better try to trade with the Chinese.
And Dmitry Medvedev is recommended to make historical an excursion and recall the friendship of Washington and Moscow, held together by fraternal help in the form of “Bush’s legs”.
