Russian Navy is ready to accept the newest submarine
RIA News citing a source in the defense industry reported that a solemn flag raising ceremony on the Severodvinsk submarine, during which it will officially join the Northern Fleet, is scheduled for June 17. The events will be held at the Sevmash plant in Severodvinsk. Commander-in-Chief of the Russian Navy, Admiral Viktor Chirkov, General Director of the Malachite SPMBM (organization-developer of the submarine) Vladimir Dorofeev and other officials will take part in the ceremony.
The adoption of the submarine "Severodvinsk" in the military composition of the Navy will be the point in the protracted construction of the epic and refinement of the head of the newest submarine project. The first nuclear submarine of the 885 “Ash” project was laid back in December of the 1993 year, but due to financial problems over the next few years, the pace of construction left much to be desired. The situation changed only in the mid-2000s, when it became possible to resume financing the project in the required amounts. The submarine "Severodvinsk" was withdrawn from the slipway in the middle of June 2010, and launched after a few days. In September 2011, the submarine first went to sea for sea trials.
Tests of the head "Ash" continued until November 2013 of the year. During this time, the submarine made 14 sailing for a total duration of more than 220 days. During the tests, several tens of thousands of nautical miles were completed and more than a hundred dives and ascents were made. The factory and state tests, which lasted more than two years, allowed to confirm the declared characteristics of the submarine, as well as to reveal a large number of existing shortcomings, which were eliminated in the process of refining.
30 December last year, the acceptance act was signed, after which the submarine Severodvinsk was put into trial operation. According to unofficial sources, by this time the submarine has retained some of the flaws, which was the reason for its acceptance not into the fleet's combat strength, but into trial operation. After the signing of the act, different dates were announced for the submarine acceptance into service of the Northern Fleet, from January to autumn 2014. Recent reports suggest that all the necessary work has been completed and the nuclear submarine Severodvinsk is ready to begin full service.
Currently, the construction of two new Yasen-type boats is underway in the workshops of the Sevmash enterprise. The Kazan and Novosibirsk submarines are at different stages of construction, they will be accepted into the Navy over the next few years. It should be noted, two new submarines are built on the updated project 885М. It took into account the experience gained during the construction and testing of the Severodvinsk submarine. In addition, Kazan and Novosibirsk receive updated equipment based on domestic components. In July of this year, the laying of the fourth "Ash" - the submarine "Krasnoyarsk" will take place.
In total, it is planned to build 2020 multi-purpose submarines of 8 and 885 projects before 885. The task of these submarines will be to patrol specified areas and launch missiles at ships or ground targets of the enemy. For this purpose, the submarines are equipped with eight modules of the CM-346 launcher, designed to launch several types of missiles. Ammunition submarines of the project "Ash" may include missiles P-800 "Onyx" and "Caliber" of various types. Maximum ammunition - 32 missiles.
To attack enemy ships and submarines, the latest submarines will also be able to use torpedo tubes. Five torpedo tubes of caliber 533 mm are installed on the sides of the submarine with a shift to its middle part. This original placement of torpedo tubes is due to the use of the large main antenna of the Irtysh-Amfora hydroacoustic complex, under which the entire nose of the hull is given.
In the near future, multipurpose submarines of the 885 and 885М projects, capable of striking surface and ground targets at distances up to 500 kilometers, will become a tool to deter potential adversaries. In accordance with the latest plans of the fleet command, multi-purpose submarines and non-nuclear submarines carrying high-precision missile weapons will be one of the main elements of the strategic non-nuclear deterrence system.
Inclusion of the new Severodvinsk nuclear submarine into the combat strength of the Northern Fleet will be the first serious step towards the creation of a non-nuclear deterrent group in the Navy. In addition, the new submarine to some extent will increase the potential of the Northern Fleet. The flag raising ceremony on the newest submarine is scheduled for June 17. When the submarine will go to the place of service is still unknown.
