Happy Russian language!
According to the most modest estimates, about 230 million people in dozens of countries speak Russian in the world. Apart from Russia and the republics of the former Soviet Union, the most widely spoken Russian today is in Bulgaria, Poland, Germany, Israel, the Czech Republic, Finland, Slovakia, Serbia, and Cyprus. A considerable number of Russian-speaking and those people who know Russian well, live in Canada and the USA, Argentina and the United Kingdom, Italy and France, Afghanistan and Syria.
June 6 - Day of the Russian language, a holiday that was approved by presidential decree in 2011 year. The holiday is very young, but the language itself has a huge historyduring which the great Russian word developed, retaining the unique sound and deep meanings that have come down to our days and given to us as a truly great gift of our ancestors.
It is easy to guess why the date 6 June was chosen for this holiday. This is the birthday of Alexander Sergeevich Pushkin, who for many generations, not only Russians, but also representatives of many other nationalities, became the personification of the imagery of the Russian word, one of the founders of the modern Russian literary language.
An interesting fact related to today's holiday concerns the post-Soviet Crimea. It was here in the year 1996 that the Russian community of Crimea first began to celebrate the Day of protection of the Russian language. In Russia itself, then by no means everyone could correctly assess the promise of this holiday, perceiving the idea with a fair amount of skepticism. The main note of this skepticism sounded as follows: and from whom today the Russian language needs to be defended, does anyone step on it, does someone raise a hand? Then it seemed that all the inconvenience for the Russian-speaking citizens of Eastern Europe, the Baltic States, Central Asia, and many other regions was only a short-term phenomenon, which would run out of itself tomorrow, and the Russian language would once again establish its rights. Although many people were even slightly worried about the statement of language in their rights, because “great and powerful English” was rising over Russia, which still stands firmly “on guard of democracy”.
The Russian language did everything for its approval, but the political will of those who, for the handshake of their partners Russophobes, were ready to trample on Russian culture and neglect the opinions of hundreds of thousands (and even millions) of their compatriots, often turned out to be weightier, even though such weight was clearly from the evil one.
18 years have passed since then. And today, Russian-speaking people are well aware that the language continues to be under tremendous pressure from the very same “heroes” struggling with one of the most important components of the unity of the vast Russian world - the language.
Fortunately, thanks to this understanding, the language itself receives an additional impetus for its development and distribution. Numerous public organizations, cultural centers, institutes for the study of Russian literature are engaged in a huge educational work, expanding the boundaries of the use of the Russian language.
In Germany, the official Year of the Russian Language starts, during which several hundreds of educational events will take place on the territory of the Federal Republic of Germany with the participation of public figures, teachers, writers from the Russian Federation inviting German schoolchildren and students to these events.
In Syria, the Day of the Russian language will celebrate the official introduction of its study in the mandatory school curriculum. This is a significant success of the language, an opportunity to introduce the younger generation of Syrians to the richest Russian culture, who will build relationships with their Russian peers in the future.
Day of the Russian language is celebrated in the American capital. Here they unveiled a monument to Alexander Sergeyevich Pushkin. A wonderful translator, Julian Lonefeld, took part in the opening ceremony of the monument. He did a lot of work on translating Pushkin's works into English. Representatives of Rossotrudnichestvo in Washington note that the United States today is the third country in the world in the number of universities where Russian is taught.
Huge interest in learning Russian is observed in China and Brazil. Professor of the University of Sao Paulo philologist Elena Vasina says that today in Brazil there is a real boom in studying Russian. A collection of Russian folk tales, narratives and short stories by Russian writers, translated into Portuguese, was acquired and distributed by the Brazilian Ministry of Education, and this book has become a true bestseller in Brazilian schools. At the same time, Elena Vasina herself very simply explains such an interest of Brazilians to Russian literature: in our books there is a moral grain, which is becoming more and more difficult to find in the works of Western writers.
The Russian language is a great heritage, the owners of which we are. Information portal "Military Review" congratulates all its readers with the Day of the Russian language and hopes that together we will do everything to approve it and win new and new hearts. Happy holiday!
