Why New Russia can not be compared with Chechnya nineties
I read the press and social networks, where, as if by a textbook, “Chechnya of the nineties” and Novorossia are compared. And also the readers suggested looking for differences in situations in the South-East of Ukraine and in Chechnya.
Let's try to justify them together.
first. Initially, Donetsk and Lugansk did not even think about secession from Ukraine, as far as I remember. Initially, simple and clear requirements sounded: people wanted their native language, spoken by the vast majority of the inhabitants of the region, to become the official one.
It is quite a harmless requirement that fits into the concept of human rights.
Second. Residents of the South-East of Ukraine demanded federalization, the expansion of economic rights, when they could direct most of the state taxes to their own social sphere.
Only when they didn’t give a damn about these demands did they start talking about independence.
In Chechnya, everything was different.
6 September 1991 there was an armed coup - the Supreme Council of the Chechen-Ingush ASSR was dispersed by members of the gangs.
By his first decree of 1 in November 1991, Dudayev proclaimed the independence of the Chechen Republic of Ichkeria (CRI) from the RSFSR.
Further, the Dudayev regime began to build a mono-national state: people of other nationalities fled from Chechnya. Russian residents of the republic was staged a genocide.
Russia continued to pay Chechnya money for social programs: they were plundered by the Dudayev leadership. This also includes the subversive activities in the financial sphere: many people remember the so-called “Chechen advice notes”.
In 1993, Chechen-Ingushetia broke up.
26 May and 29 July 1994 Chechen extremists committed terrorist acts outside of Chechnya. In the city of Mineralnye Vody, hostage-taking, including children, took place twice. Killed 4 man. Further, as we remember, the attacks were more and more.
Naturally, it was the ATO - the conduct of the antiterrorist operation. And naturally, the end of this large-scale internal Russian tragedy was laid by Vladimir Putin as a result of his agreements with Akhmat Kadyrov, who behaved like a responsible politician.
Well and, therefore, the necessary questions after such an excursion in history.
Southeast began with the declaration of independence, or first tried to agree with the Kiev authorities on how to live in a single state?
Did the South-East of Ukraine arrange the genocide on a national basis on its territory?
Did Southeast arrange the terrorist attacks in any cities of Ukraine?
And one more, a small nuance.
Have the leaders of the West (or Russia) in Europe or the USA met with the leaders of New Russia? Were receptions, press and simply “about the struggle for independence” conferences held in Washington or London for them? Have millions of dollars been given "on the road to independence"? Did they press them as furiously as Maskhadov-Zakayev-Khattab-Dudayev-Raduyev and comrades of the world's leading media, the bonfire of the “feds”? Were they told a thousand-page about the atrocities of the regular army against the “rebels dreaming of freedom”? Not?
It seems to me that to talk about the similarity of situations is to sign in ignorance. Moreover, the tragedy with Chechnya is historically so close that it cannot be closer.
