Not about the photo, but about the Hungarians.
My mother lived in the occupation in the Bryansk region. Naturally, not honey. The Germans conducted anti-partisan operations, not particularly sparing the locals.
However, the Germans were not considered such a terrible evil as the Magyars. The Magyars were most feared. They captured one of the neighboring villages and destroyed all the inhabitants. The children were "thrown" into the well.
The Germans still did not reach this (in that area, at least).
When they learned that the Magyars appeared, people threw everything, grabbed the children and fled into the forest.
So I don’t trust this beautiful photo.

I read something like this about the Croats in the occupation zone on the Eastern Front. In general, this is significant, in direct hostilities the satellite allies of the Germans did not particularly distinguish themselves, but the punishers were very famous.

I fully support you, worse than the Magyars were only the Baltic states.

Romanians, after they worked in the south of Ukraine, didn’t take prisoners at all ..
the Germans still fiercely hate them, calling Gypsies)))

      Croats
      Hungarians
as well as finns that we never had.
however, oddly enough, not in defense of the Hungarians, but as a fact: not infrequently these were not the above-mentioned national units, but ordinary, Baltic, Western Ukrainian and other "assistants".

In the south, Germans were considered less evil than Hungarians and Romanians with Italians.
There was no mercy, because they robbed everything and everyone.
They shot everything that is possible and impossible, the last one was selected.
Grandmothers and uncles and aunts told me about my father.
The Germans came to the village not only did nothing, but compared to these ...

And the photos themselves are certainly great!
Give a dip at that time.

I do not condone all the Nazis at all. But the population of the occupied lands was most afraid of the Hungarians and Romanians. My grandmother (she rest in peace) in Ukraine said that these devils and our partisans robbed everyone. When the German stood in the village, the officers forbade the marauding. I cooked food for tenants under the threat of execution, but as a child I played cards (the unit came from France) with French symbols. The house was typical German homemade - a carved wooden swallow in a clay nest, a present from a German soldier for food. my grandfather went through the entire anti-aircraft gunner. Probably, one should not recall the atrocities and divide the peoples. The war passes, and the grandchildren (we all) should not fight forever.

I live in Moldova, and therefore more than once had to listen to stories about German and Romanian soldiers. I liked the story of one dedugan from the city of Cahul. He spoke, if you steal something, and the German noticed, he simply shouts: “Stop.” In its own way, in German. Not stopped - shoots. Romanian will run after you until you get tired, or he does not get tired.

)))) I am definitely closer to the German reaction to theft, because your brother came in large numbers dohre.na and steal everything that is not screwed.

I didn’t see some interesting photos, but with one I figured out how it looks now:
Biryuch. The grave of a Hungarian soldier against the background of the Cathedral of the Intercession of the Holy Virgin
The graves were located somewhere behind the department store building, or under it. http://www.panoramio.com/photo_explorer#view=photo&position=96&with_photo_id=136

The photo was apparently taken from the bell tower, the domes of the temple and the bell tower were completely rebuilt during restoration. http://www.panoramio.com/photo_explorer#view=photo&position=33&with_photo_id=946

A good soldier cannot be a good punisher. Animal cruelty is a sure sign of cowardice.
