A joint Russian-Chinese military exercise Maritime Interaction 2014 will be held in the South China Sea. This is the official representative of the Pacific fleet Russian Roman Martov, whose words he leads RIA News".
According to the official representative of the Russian Pacific Fleet, the Russian side will take part in joint naval exercises BDK "Admiral Nevelskoy", destroyer "Bystry", large anti-submarine ship "Admiral Panteleev", sea tug "Kalar", tanker "Ilim". At the head of the detachment of Russian ships will go the flagship of the Pacific Fleet missile cruiser "Varyag".
On the Chinese side, 6 ships will be involved in the exercise.
Similar joint exercises took place last year in the Sea of Japan, and practicing actions to counter various threats from Russian and Chinese sailors was commended both by military specialists and by the authorities of the two states.
It is worth recalling that on May 20-21 a state visit of Russian President Vladimir Putin to China is scheduled. During this visit, the Russian president will take part in a summit on interaction and confidence-building measures in Asia, and also will discuss with the head of the PRC issues of preparation for the celebration of the 70 anniversary of the Victory in World War II.
