NATO accused Gaddafi of using civilian objects as cover
General Sir David Richards, head of the armed forces, said that the international coalition should be given the opportunity to launch an attack using all available means to finally defeat Gaddafi.
The military claim that the dictator used the playground that was built directly above the bunker to protect his bunker, located in the capital Tripoli. There is no official confirmation of such information, and it is possible that the military is thus justified for launching a bombing attack on civilian targets. At the same time, it should be noted that international pressure on Gaddafi is growing every day and an international warrant for his arrest can be issued today.
Prosecutors demand that the International Criminal Court issue an arrest warrant for the Libyan leader for murder, torture and brutal suppression of anti-government forces. Judges in The Hague will examine 74 pages of evidence, including testimony from Gaddafi’s own officials about the atrocities of his regime, and only then will they put their stamps on the document.
Previously, many were convinced that an exhausted Gaddafi would voluntarily leave his post and go into exile, but the arrest warrant would complicate his plans. Instead, he will be forced to choose one of two options: fight to the end or go underground.
NATO has been bombing Libya for nearly two months in accordance with a UN mandate giving the right to use force to protect civilians. The UN mandate clearly states that coalition air forces have the right to strike only at sites that pose a real threat to the life of the population - Tanks, artillery, military aviationarmed units. General Richards, the chief of defense staff, insists that Gaddafi is not the main target of the strikes, but that it will be “within the rules” if he is killed as a result of a blow to a team from the operation control center.
“Now we have to tighten our actions and demonstrate to Gaddafi that we are stronger and he has to leave. If we do not take decisive measures now, there is a risk that Gaddafi will win the conflict and remain in power. Currently, the NATO Air Force does not attack civilian infrastructure in Libya. But if we want to increase pressure on the Gaddafi regime, we should seriously consider expanding the range of goals, ”said General Richards in one of his interviews.
Last night, the coalition denied Libyan state media reports that 11 clerics were killed in a bomb blast during an air strike on the eastern suburb of Brega.
Last week alone, NATO aircraft destroyed 149 military buildings, an ammunition depot 24 and 20 armored vehicles. Defense Minister Liam Fox during a political talk show (Politics Show) on the BBC said: “It is acceptable to destroy Gadhafi’s tanks and military vehicles if they directly threaten civilians. It is legal to destroy the dictatorial command and control centers. ”
