Superflood 17 was completed years laterA new generation nuclear submarine will be launched today, June 15, in Severodvinsk. The ceremony will be attended by Dmitry Medvedev. This is the second visit of the head of state to the city of shipbuilders. The first was held in July 2009.

The fourth-generation multipurpose nuclear submarine "Severodvinsk" (project 885 "Ash"), designed by the St. Petersburg bureau "Malachite", was built at the shipyard PO "Sevmash". At the same time, it was laid back in 1993, but the completion of work was delayed due to the constant lack of financial resources and skilled labor at the enterprise. In addition, the delay was explained by the fact that absolutely new and most modern materials were used in the construction. The descent of Severodvinsk was planned for 7 May, but was postponed for a month.

The submarine will undergo its first tests in the summer. It is expected that fleet will receive the submarine in 2011. After its commissioning, it is planned to build six more such submarines. Last year, the second Project 885 submarine, named Kazan, was laid down at Sevmash. Navy Commander-in-Chief Vladimir Vysotsky then stated that the construction of the new submarine was unscheduled, since it was not provided for in the state rearmament program.

According to experts, the boat has no analogues. Its body is made of high-strength steel, on which a rubber coating is applied, reducing noise and reducing the reflection of sonar signals on board. In addition, the submarine has a pop-up rescue chamber for the entire crew in 85 or (according to other estimates) in the human 93.

The submarine is equipped with a new Ajax hydroacoustic system, eight launchers missile installations, supersonic cruise missiles and universal deep-sea homing torpedoes. The displacement is from 8,6 to 9,5 thousand tons.

According to experts, the Severodvinsk is hardly noticeable for sonar radars. It is comparable to the Sea Wolf submarine, but more versatile than its American counterpart.

According to the plans for the modernization of the Russian submarine fleet, the Project 885 Yasen submarines will become one of four types of submarines accepted into service. One of the features of the Soviet and Russian submarine fleet was that they were armed with different types of submarines, which significantly complicated their operation and repair.
