In memory of the Sevastopol blockade
One of the first to take an enemy strike at the beginning of the war was Sevastopol. 22.06.41 at night the families of the military anxiously escorted them around the house when they heard the signal of a “big gathering”. No one else knew that there was a long war ahead and many would not see it anymore. Soon after the men left the house, searchlights would split the sky and start machine guns. The time of the first destruction, the first victims will begin. The whole country was still sleeping peacefully.
The Nazi troops, given the strength and resilience of the inhabitants of this city, planned to destroy it completely. The forces were unequal. On one fighter - two opponents, on one gun - two fascist, on each tank - four German, against one aircraft - ten enemy planes.
In October, 41, 29 number, Sevastopol was in a state of siege. In the occupation, the city spent long 250 days. Only 04. 07. 42, the city was freed from Hitler's “hugs”.
During these painfully long days, the defenders and residents of the city have distinguished themselves by incredible dedication, unparalleled resilience and heroism.
At the Marine Plant, despite regular shelling by the enemy, the workers carried out repairs on damaged ships. Regardless of whether it was a day or a night, military equipment was produced. Two armored trains were equipped, a third floating battery was built and equipped. The Germans subsequently called it the "square of death." Mountain galleries became a platform for underground special plants. In one of them was located production weapons and ammunition. A large number of mortars, grenades, mines arrived at the front line directly from the bowels of the mountains. In another, women sewed underwear, shoes and uniforms for soldiers. When the silk was finished for sewing bags on the fuses of the bombs, the women brought their silk blouses out of the house.
Here, in the depths of the earth, they built a canteen, a school, a kindergarten. The ambulance station worked, a bakery and a hospital were placed. Finishing the work shift at the machine, most of the women and girls went to assist the wounded.
Food stocks declined. There was not enough bread, flour was given instead. At night, despite shelling and bombing, the Komsomol brigades delivered her to the bomb shelters.
The end of May was marked by a general mobilization to the front line. Having gone through the school of the national militia, many men and women, boys and girls, went there.
Residents of Sevastopol, working and fighting, did not have feelings of panic and despair, hopelessness and cowardice. Mass heroism distinguished at that time the population of the city.
A particularly brutal period for the city was the entry of the Nazis into the already completely destroyed city.
03. 07. 42 began the mass destruction of civilians. Women, children and old people were the first to be exterminated in the underground galleries. The fate of the Trinity tunnel - the shooting of more than 400 people working in it. 12. 07. 42 d. 1,5 Thousands of Krymchaks and Jews were rounded up by occupiers at the Dynamo stadium field. These people were robbed by the fascists and after a series of horrible harassment, they were taken to the area of 5 km on Balaklava highway, where they were shot. Thus, Hitler made a "sweep" of the Jewish nation. During the occupation period of the city, the Germans shot, burned, drowned in the sea, and several tens of thousands of people were forcibly driven to Germany. In this city there is no such family, where someone would not die during this time.
The fiercest were the battles on Sapun Mountain. It was there that hostilities took place during all 250 days. One hundred bullets per minute was intended for every warrior. It was officially established, years later, by those who conducted research in this legendary place.
In the 44 year, 9 May Sevastopol was liberated. In the vicinity of Cape Chersonese, a red flag was raised on this occasion, signifying victory. This day is now the Day of the city.
Residents of Sevastopol were the most ordinary people. But during the hardships they showed wonderful spiritual qualities, an incredible devotion to their land. Brave, courageous, very restrained and resourceful - their names are written story wartime glorious city.
In Sevastopol, every street, every pebble was stained with blood. The inhabitants of the city still treat the war memory with special care. Probably, remembering this tragedy, an incredible amount of red poppies blooms in this city in spring, for the holiday of Victory. After all, it has long been known that they grow only in areas of great bloodshed.
