Accuracy International AX

In service with the army and the USMC dozens of models of sniper rifles are made up. These are semi-automatic rifles М14 and М110 under .308Win and modifications М16 under .223Rem, as well as various large-caliber models from Barrett under .50BMG. Manual rifles such as the legendary M40 Marine Corps and other models based on the Remington 700. In addition to rifles developed in the United States, the products of foreign companies such as FN Hestral, MacMillan, Accuracy International, etc. are also being used by the army and the ILC. The main feature unifying all this weapon is that it is designed for army supplies and use ammunition interchangeable with other types of weapons. US SOCOM (United States Special Operations Command), unlike "ordinary" units, does not have strict supply restrictions and uses weapons and ammunition that best meet their objectives. The result of this was various modifications of army weapons for new ammunition, for example M24 under .338 LapuaMagnum in the modification M24A3 for army special forces or MK13 mod1 under .300WinchesterMagnum, which is essentially the R700 in the AICS box for special units of the ILC and fleet.

The use of different models and their variations by special operations units leads to an extra burden on logistics and supply, and also does not allow introducing uniform training standards and using joint divisions assigned to different types of troops with maximum efficiency. In order to unify US SOCOM, in February 2009 announced a tender for the development and supply of a new sniper rifle. Under the terms of the competition, contractors (manufacturers) must develop a rifle complex that fully satisfies the submitted requirements, and 3 March 2010 will provide several samples for testing in US SOCOM.
The main requirements of the PSR contest (Precision Sniper Rifle - high-precision sniper rifle) are as follows:

For the supply of the shooting complex, only commercially produced ammunition from the CIP or SAAMI registry can be used;
The design of the rifle complex provides the ability to fire both from the right and left shoulder;
The rifle complex must ensure that the target is hit at all practical ranges up to 1500, demonstrating accuracy of no more than an MOA with a series of 10 shots;
The rifle complex design must support at least 1000 delayed shots;
The total length of the rifle complex (without a silencer) must not exceed 52 "(1320 mm), during transportation no more than 40" (1016 mm);
The mass of the rifle complex with a loaded magazine on 5 cartridges should not exceed 18 pounds (8 kg);
Disassembly / assembly of the rifle complex to the main components should not take more than 2-x;
Disassembly and subsequent assembly of the rifle complex should not lead to the movement of "zero" and not require re-adjustment;
The shooting complex must rejoice in the possibility of installing additional equipment on Picatinny rails (MilStd 1913) in any position on all sides of the forearm;

The intention to participate in the competition was expressed by many companies, among which were the most eminent manufacturers of high-precision sniper rifles, one of such companies was Accuracy International. Unfortunately, none of the company's products met the requirements of US SOCOM and the company’s management decided to develop a new model based on the AW series during the year allotted by the customer. The result of the work of the design team was the presentation of the Accuracy International AX rifle presented in 19 on January 2010 in Las Vegas.

The new rifle, like the majority of the company's products, has an aluminum carrier tire to which the receiver, bed elements, etc., are attached. In the new rifle, the developer used the experience obtained when creating the AW50 rifle, the load-carrying tire of which was not completely covered with nylon linings and had a thickening in the receiver area and a cartridge, allowing more efficiently to distribute the force transmitted from the receiver to the bed with a recoil foot, which favorably affects the rifle's accuracy. The rear part of the carrier tire is closed with a nylon lining, forming the fire control handle, ending with a fastening / turning unit of the butt. In front of the tire, it is closed with an overlay that ensures comfortable holding of the rifle with a “weak” hand, and has fastening points for the rifle's shank. Handguard is an octagonal frame rigidly mounted on the carrier tire, the faces of which are equipped with attachment points, allowing you to install platforms with guides, various linings or additional equipment. This design of the forearm combines ample opportunities for placing bipods, sights and attachments to them, LCC blocks and additional handles with effective removal of hot air from the barrel through unused mounting holes. The forearm mounting tire is offered in two versions, with a long useful part of 13 or 16 inches. The rifle's box - the open parts of the tire and forend layers, as well as the linings, can be painted in three primary colors - black, green or yellow-brown, as well as in any other color required by a large customer (for example US SOCOM), as was done on ShotShow.

The barrel of the new rifle is similar to the AW series barrels, has a sleek external profile in the .308Win caliber and a profile with dollars in the .300WM and .338LM calibers. For the new rifle, a two-chamber flame arrester was developed (previously a single-chamber flame was used on the AW series) for the .308Win caliber, for the .300WM and .338LM a flame arrester was borrowed from the AW series in the appropriate calibers. The barrel is installed in the receiver as well as on other rifles of the company - screwed. It is also identical to the AW series and the decision to install the receiver on the busbar - with bolts and epoxy resin. A Picatinny guide is mounted on the upper edge of the receiver for mounting any optical or electron-optical sights. The slide group installed in the receiver is identical to that of the AW series in the .308Win caliber, but the slide group in the .300WM and .338LM calibers has undergone some changes. The stem stem diameter was increased from 20 mm to 22 mm to cover the valleys more than half the length of such, which positively affects the reliability and reliability of the gate group in difficult conditions, contributes to the destruction of ice crust, squeezing sand and other foreign bodies onto the stem into dollars shutter, as well as the accumulation of excess lubricant. The fuse block remains the same and, just like on AW, has a three-position flap fuse - fire is allowed, drummer blocking and free shutter, drummer and shutter blocking. Also, the locking scheme, the design of the extractor and the drummer has not changed. USM rifle as before on AW with a warning, has an adjustment force ranging from 1,5 to 2 kg, but the trigger adjustment range was increased to 13 mm. The bolt group, as before, has an anti-icing coating, and the receiver and the rest of the metal parts have an anti-corrosion coating. The rifle is powered in the same way as previously from box magazines, with a capacity of 10 cartridges for .308Win with a double row arrangement and single-row cartridges for 5 for .300WM and .338LM. The carrier tire has a cut-out that contributes to greater comfort when handling the store.

The fire and butt control stick is offered in two versions, in the variant copying the design of the classic F box for the AW series or in the new version, which constructively repeats the butt applied by the company in the Covert rifle. In the second case, the pistol grip is not closed and has the ability to adjust the shape of this by changing the inserts on the back. The shape of the handle is most adapted for precision shooting, due to the angle of the handle and the position of the hand on it. In spite of the design, the butt has an adjustment of the butt of the butt on the angle in the plane perpendicular to the axis of the rifle and in height, an adjustment along the length of the butt, due to spacers and an adjustment of the height of the shek. On both sides, the butt is equipped with anabs for the belt, as well as a monopod of a new design in the neckline under the "weak" arm. In contrast to the old design with a lock washer on the AX, a push-button lock is applied. The height of the monopod 115 mm, it is possible to order and two-step monopod. On the bottom surface of the butt can be installed directing Picatinny.

Accuracy International presented a .338LM caliber rifle with a 27 "(685 mm) barrel and 16" mounting bar, as well as an adjustable pistol grip, to the PSR competition. The rifle went through all the formal features of the competition and was accepted for tests, which would end approximately in the summer of the 2010 of the year. The rifle is also offered in various calibers and versions on the civilian market, and Accuracu International dealers in the United States accept pre-orders for the purchase of such. Unlike the basic models intended for the military, civilian dealers are offered rifles in calibers .338LM, .300WM, .308Win, .243 Win, .260 Rem, 6.5 Creedmoor. The company also took into account the experience of sales of the previous series and offers not only a rifle, but also a separate AICS AX box for the Remington 700 shutter groups.

    For single special operations, for special forces, for lovers of similar products. The price is probably not small. In the United States, the military is rich, there are rich lovers in the civilian world.
