The award option currently in use was established in March 1994. The Russian version differs from the Soviet medal “For Courage” in the absence of the inscription “USSR”, which was located under the multi-tower a tank at the bottom of the coin. The medal "For Courage" can be awarded to citizens of Russia, both military and civilian. The basis for the award is personal courage and courage, which was manifested in the performance of military or his civic duty, namely: 1) in battles defending the Russian Federation and its state interests; 2) when performing special missions to ensure the state security of the Russian Federation; 3) in the protection of the state border of the Russian Federation; 4) in the performance of military, official or civil duty, the protection of the constitutional rights of citizens in conditions that were associated with a risk to life. At the same time, like many other Russian awards, the medal "For Courage" can be awarded posthumously.
Mainly the medal “For Courage” in Russia is awarded to military personnel, employees of the internal affairs bodies, special forces soldiers, fire fighting men. A large number of such medals were issued for the fighting in the North Caucasus. However, this medal can be awarded many times. In Russia there are at least three-time holders of this award. For example, police colonel Oleg Matveev, who holds the post of commander of the Udmurt riot police, was awarded three Orders of Courage and three medals "For Courage". Oleg Matveyev began serving in the ranks of law enforcement agencies in 1991, he is a participant in the hostilities in Afghanistan, Dagestan and Chechnya.
Medal "For Courage" is made of pure silver. Obverse and reverse medals have a convex bead located around the entire circumference. Medal diameter - 34 mm. At the top of the award on the obverse are three flying aircraft, below them is the inscription "For courage" (all capital letters). The inscription is made in two lines "depressed" letters. The letters of the inscription are covered with red enamel. Also on the obverse in the lower part is an image of a multi-turret tank, which is made in relief. The reverse of the medal is smooth, it contains only the ordinal number of the award.
Through the ear, with the help of a connecting ring, the reward can be attached to a standard pentagonal shoe. The block is covered with a silk gray ribbon 24 mm wide. Along the edges of this moire ribbon are narrow stripes of blue flowers, each 2 wide mm. According to the provision on the medal "For Courage", it should be worn on the left side of the chest, after the medal of the order "For services to the Fatherland." In special cases and with everyday wear of the award, its miniature copy can be used, and only tape can be worn on uniforms. At the same time, a miniature copy and a ribbon of a medal when worn are arranged, like a regular medal. The size of the miniature copy of the award is - 17 mm in diameter. Tape for courage is worn on a standard strip - 24 mm in width and 8 mm in height.
The first medal awards were made in December 1994 of the year. Then a group of 8 people was awarded. Among these eight, six people were participants in the underwater-technical work on the nuclear submarine Komsomolets, which sank in the Norwegian Sea. Also among the awarded were two employees of the Security Service of the President of Russia - A. P. Terentyev and N. N. Zakharov. The latter were awarded for their courage and heroism in performing a special task.
The last famous award for the Medal of Courage medal was 14 February 2014 of the year. The award was awarded to Osman Murgustov - deputy of the village council of the village of Dolakovo (Ingushetia). In February, 2013, he rammed the car of criminals who attempted on his father, the head of the Republican branch of the Rosselkhoznadzor, and also contributed to the detention of these criminals.
