Combat awards of the Russian Federation. Gold Star Medal
The hero of the Russian Federation is a state award of the Russian Federation - the highest rank that can be awarded for services to the people and the state, which are associated with the accomplishment of a heroic deed. Each Hero of the Russian Federation is awarded a diploma, as well as a sign of special distinction - the Gold Star Medal. Along with the title of Hero of Labor of the Russian Federation, approved in 2013, this award refers to a separate type of state awards - the highest titles, which are in the first place in the modern Russian hierarchy of state awards.
In the event that a person is simultaneously awarded the title of Hero of the Russian Federation and the title of Hero of Labor of the Russian Federation, then a monument in the form of a bronze bust with an appropriate inscription will be erected in his homeland on the basis of a presidential decree. In contrast to the similar Soviet rank, there are a number of important differences. So, in particular, the title of Hero of Russia is assigned only once, the secondary award is not made. Also, the subject of the award in the Russian Federation is an exceptionally perfect feat.
This statement is refuted by practice, since the title of Hero of the Russian Federation was awarded to a number of Russian athletes (Alexander Karelin), designers (Mikhail Petrovich Simanov), officials (former head of the Federal Security Service of Russia Sergey Patrushev), etc. There was even information in the media that former Defense Minister Anatoly Serdyukov was presented to the rank of Hero of the Russian Federation by a closed order of the Russian president. The facts of awarding officials and functionaries raise many questions, since they contradict the position of rank, evoking associations with the USSR during the stagnation period, when the presentation of titles was of a “jubilee” character, the most vivid example of Brezhnev.
Such awards can offend the feelings of those who received an award deserved for accomplishing a heroic deed with the risk to their lives. In this part of the awards can be attributed to the fact that the title of Hero of Labor of the Russian Federation was established very late, only last year. At the same time, the overwhelming majority of Heroes of Russia received this high title for accomplishing the most real feats. As of December 26, 2013 people were presented to the title of Hero of the Russian Federation, of which 1006 people were awarded posthumously. It should be noted that this information is approximate, since the lists of citizens awarded this high rank are not published in Russia.
The medal is actually a copy of another Soviet award with a change in the colors of the ribbon, which is located on the reward box. The Gold Star Medal is a five-pointed star with smooth dihedral rays on the face of the medal. The length of each beam is 15 mm. The flip side of the medal has a smooth surface, which is limited along the edge by a small thin rim. Also on the back of the award was the inscription "Hero of Russia" (all the letters are convex and uppercase). The size of the letters 4х2 mm. On the back side in the top ray of the star is the medal number, the height of the number is 1 mm.
With the help of a ring and an ear, the Gold Star medal is connected with a gold-plated metal pad, which is a rectangular plate with a width of 19,5 mm and a height of 15 mm, having frames in the lower and upper parts. Along the base of the pads are slots. The inside of the pad is covered with a moire ribbon of three colors - the colors of the Russian state flag. On the reverse side of the pad there is also a threaded pin with a nut, which are designed to attach the medal to various clothes. The Gold Star Medal is made of gold, its weight is 21,5.
The first to receive the title of Hero of the Russian Federation was a military pilot - Major General aviation Sulambek Susarkulovich Oskanov, who headed the Lipetsk center for combat training and retraining of flight personnel. Such a high rank of an officer was awarded on the basis of a decree of the President of the Russian Federation of April 11, 1992, and the rank was awarded posthumously. During the flight mission on the MiG-29 fighter on February 7, 1992, equipment failure occurred in flight. Major General Sulambek Oskanov, at the cost of his own life, sent a fighter out of control, away from the village.
Curiously, but the pilot's widow was awarded the Gold Star Medal of the Hero of the Russian Federation for the number XXUMX. The Gold Star Medal of the Hero of Russia for No. XXUMX was awarded to Sergey Konstantinovich Krikalev, a cosmonaut. He was presented with an award for a long-term space flight at the Mir space station, a decree awarding the cosmonaut was signed on the same day on April 2 1. According to one of the versions, the country's leadership decided that the Gold Star medal of the Hero of the Russian Federation for No. XXUMX should be awarded to a living person, for this reason, the widow of Sulambek Oskanov was awarded the medal for No. XXUMX.
Major General Sulambek Oskanov
It is curious that the astronaut Sergei Krikalev was the first to have the highest differences at the same time both the USSR and Russia. Only 4 Heroes of the Russian Federation are simultaneously Heroes of the Soviet Union. It is also interesting to note the fact that some veterans of the Great Patriotic War became Heroes of Russia, who for some reason did not receive the title of Hero of the Soviet Union for their exploits. Among those awarded were women front-line soldiers, three of them were awarded this title in 1994 (2 posthumously). Among the awarded were reconnaissance woman Vera Voloshina, who was shot by the Nazis, Lydia Shulaykina, who fought in the Baltic attack aircraft fleet and aviation commander Ekaterina Budanova, who accounted for 10 downed German planes.
