Cars and transporters of the military medical service

49
Since nowadays the armies of all countries of the world use automobiles and transporters to carry out their main tasks in transporting people and goods, this article will focus on them. More precisely, I want to talk a little about cars and transporters for military medics.

Wars are an integral part of human life, unfortunately. It always has been. And where there is war, there is the need to evacuate wounded soldiers from the battlefield and deliver them to the rear to provide them with the necessary honey. help. With the advent of cars and transporters in the army honey. units such assistance has become much faster, which saved the lives of many soldiers.

The equipment of military honey. units such technique, or lack thereof, speaks about the care of the state about their people.

Nowadays there are many variants of such equipment and you can compare its equipment and thoughtfulness of design solutions to better accomplish the tasks of military doctors.

First, I will talk about samples of such equipment of Soviet and Russian production, and then I want to go to the technology produced by foreign manufacturers, for comparison.

Let's start, perhaps, with light wheel technology, which works directly on the front. Next, we will move on to more complex samples. This is the leading edge conveyor (TPK) LUAZ-967. It was mass-produced by the Lutsk Automobile Plant from 1962 to 1991. Since the machine was designed to work in such conditions, the engineers made it as low as possible so that it could be covered literally “out of the blue” and managed to lie on it. The machine can carry two “stretcher” fighters at the same time, the stretchers are placed along the sides or the 5-6 are wounded while sitting. The conveyor has a plug-in four-wheel drive of all wheels with locking rear axle gear and a winch with a drive through a worm gear and belts driven by the engine. The winch on this machine is not for self-pulling, but in order to draw the wounded (on a raincoat, on a piece of tarpaulin or in a boat, drag) on a boat or on a raft through a water barrier (river, lake).

Also, the machine can independently overcome small water obstacles; the propellers on the water are its wheels, and has very good throughput on all types of roads and terrain.

Next comes the main "workhorse" of military medics - the UAZ, which is popularly called a "loaf" or "pill". This honored veteran of the military medical service is already released from 1958, and to this day is still in the ranks and regularly pulls its hard strap.

On the photo experienced UAZ-450

The first cars, which began to enter the SA from the autumn of 1958, were called UAZ-450А.

UAZ-450А, appearance

UAZ-450А, a fragment of the cabin

Later it began to be issued under the designation UAZ-452.

UAZ-452, appearance

UAZ-452, salon and cabin

Nowadays, these hard workers wear the 3962 index and practically have not changed from the outside.

UAZ-3962, appearance

No wonder they say - appearances are deceptive. Inside for the 55 years they have changed and very seriously, mainly the changes affected the engine and transmission, a vacuum brake booster brake was also added. And on the latest modifications put power steering and disc brakes of the front wheels. Inside the cabin and san. more powerful heaters were installed in the compartment, the UAZ-450А and UAZ-452 machine heating was unsuccessfully designed and it was cold inside in severe frosts. The drivers often made the holes themselves in the recesses of the wings near the hood and another one on the wall between the cabin and the engine, so that the air would blow in from the cooling fan and oncoming air flow, then the car was warm. In the warm season, all this “farm” was compacted with rags and closed with improvised dampers.

There were repeated attempts to replace these machines with more modern models, but for a number of reasons they did not produce them. And the options were:

UAZ-3972. Development of the second half 80-x, appearance

This car, in addition to the new body, was supposed to get a new transmission. The development was conducted on the theme "Wagon".

UAZ-2970, a new attempt to create a car of this class. Equip this car was planned hybrid transmission. In the photo - ready experienced car

By the way, engineers from the USA are working on it now.

UAZ-2970, driver's workplace

As for the working qualities of the basic and only mass-produced machines of this class to this day, the following can be said. On board, the “tablet” can take 5 injured fighters on stretchers or transport 2 stretchers and 4-6 people in a sitting position. It is possible that 8-10 people are taken on board. This car can move absolutely on all types of roads, including in difficult road conditions (sodden primer, snow drifts), as well as on the ground in conditions of moderate off-road (and after some technical modifications, equipped with a winch and ditching tools along with a jack such as high-jack, able to move in conditions of strong off-road). The engines are installed gasoline, both carburetor and injection (there are 8-cl. And 16-cl.), 4-x or 5-speed manual transmission, RC 2-x speed with a hard front axle connection.

The main shortcomings include a very tough short-stroke suspension (this problem was partially solved by installing longer sheets in the springs with fastening on the earrings and not on the pillows, as it was earlier), the absence of blocking in the gearboxes of the bridges, and the intense heat in the cabin and cabin summer time.

In general, this machine proved to be quite reliable, durable and unpretentious in operation.

A few words about the "Loaf". The car has all the shortcomings of the Soviet car industry, and in fact one advantage is its high capacity. To the author, in my opinion, the car has not changed much structurally, all "improvements" are carried out on the basis of "original" units and in most cases carry the percentage improvement of one quality despite the fact that the general situation is only getting worse. For example, the installation of the ZMZ-405 engine with similar resources with the veteran 402 (and its Ulyanovsk mutation) has a third greater mass and is somewhat larger, access to the engine has deteriorated, and the weight distribution along the axes has become even more uneven. I had a chance to personally feel the difference between reseeding from Bukhanka to Delika 93g.v.

You probably meant ICE ZMZ-409 and UMZ-421.
I agree with you on ZMZ-409. Access to it for repair and maintenance is poor, to remove the starter, for example, you need to disassemble a half-machine and have very gutta-perceptive and very good handles. laughing
This once again confirms the need for a new, more modern car of this class. Yes

UAZ-2970 looks very good for a utilitarian machine. Still, the radiator grill would have been made a little more elegant, and not so primitive, then generally a handsome man would have been.

Well, the famous "pill" has been produced for sixty years already, and so far something is not visible on the horizon of a model that can replace it. It is understandable. As for me, "Simba" will be better.
"Sobol 4x4" is larger in size and taller, which negatively affects the vehicle's cross-country ability in terms of overcoming various obstacles and when driving in difficult conditions. I also don't like its front axle with open cardan joints. will stretch "a separate cardan.
The Ulyanovsk Automobile Plant has considerable experience in the development of military vehicles of high cross-country ability, including, and the fact that it found itself in such a position and new developments do not go into the series, it is the merit of "effective managers" who climbed everywhere for high "profits". Poorly imagining where these same "profits" come from.
Looks like they hoped that the army would continue to massively purchase "goats" and "loaves" and buzzed with their ears that the requirements of the time for military vehicles have long changed.
I only feel sorry for the people from the design bureau (who, in spite of everything, make attempts to create new, more modern machines) and ordinary workers who risk being left without work due to the fault of their lazy and short-sighted "leadership".

I, too, am the former owner of the loaf. What the factory produced (the 1988 machine) can be called a set of blanks for technical creativity. The engine was 2.9l, apparently the most suitable for such a machine, but the K151 carburetor is a complete marriage, completely unsuitable for operation. In the distributor full of any play. Factory adjustments, apparently, provided for fuel consumption of 25-30 liters per 100 km. After all the alterations, it was possible to bring it to 13l / 100km along the highway, around the city + 1.5l. Of course, there are not enough locks. ready-made gearboxes of bridges with a lock, what prevents the plant from putting them on the car? Home-made installation in split axles will be connected with the problem of adjusting bearings in artisanal conditions. The bodywork is incomplete, and the build and painting quality is simply terrifying. In general, a machine for those who like to dig into iron , who have a lot of free time. Or for those who have to drive a lot on the road - there is no other way out, parquet SUVs are not an alternative. New reinforced box but it was quite good, it didn’t make noise, the gears shifted well, the clutch was also normal. It’s quite comfortable to drive a car, the roof is low, traffic lights are hard to see. And the engine cover, which was poorly designed, with poor sealing, gets a lot. 50-60 years that UAZ produces this car almost unchanged, it would have been possible to improve and improve something. However, I see no positive changes in anything.

I have a more authoritative source than the journalists from the Zvezda TV channel, this is the author of the book "Secret Cars of the Soviet Army" Evgeny Dmitrievich Kochnev.
In his book, he writes that this TPK was produced by the ZAZ automobile plant and was called ZAZ-967, in 3 series these TPKs were produced from 1962 to 1967. It also explains that this was a production in small batches, they mainly passed field and military tests .
Since 1968 the automobile plant in Lutsk began to produce these machines and under the LUAZ-967 brand produced them until 1971 with a 30-horsepower engine, and from 1972 to 1991 a modified version of the LUAZ-967M with a 40-horsepower engine.
In my article, I made a mistake in that TPK produced only the Lutsk Automobile Plant.

LUAZ-967 in the army was called "corpse carrier" because of its consonance with the abbreviation TPK, in the 80s the SPG-9, ATGM Fagot and AGS-17 were based on the TPK in the airborne assault brigades. The car was transported by helicopter, unloaded by landing method, a sample of weapons, its crew and ammunition were transported by car.

Given the dynamics of the pole shift (50 km per year), this machine has tremendous export potential. States will be thrilled.
