MBDA company began negotiations with the Indian Navy to sell the MMP missile system

As it became known during the Defexpo India-2014 exhibition, MBDA began negotiations with the North Indian command of selling a new MMP (Missile Moyenne Portee) medium-range anti-tank missile system.

According to Janes Defense Weekly, in 2010, India launched the 8000 procurement program for light anti-tank complexes designed to replace the Milan-2T anti-tank systems, which are in service with the armed forces of the country.

At the start of the competition, MBDA could not offer a complex capable of launching missiles in the “shot-and-forget” mode, so he did not take part in the tender. However, after developing an MMP rocket meeting the requirements of the WW France, and receiving an order for the supply of 2850 rockets, MBDA expects to successfully advance the complex in India.

NW India recently completed tests of the Spike ATGM of the Israeli company Rafael. American companies "Raytheon" and "Lockheed Martin", in turn, offer India a joint production of Javelin ATGM.

To present the project, MMP MBDA is merging with Bharat Dynamics Limited (Bharat Dynamics Limited), which is already the national partner of the European company in the production of Milan missiles. MMP complexes are proposed to be produced in the same configuration as for the NE of France.

MBDA is currently testing and certifying MMP. As planned, these procedures will be completed by 2016 year. Deliveries of the NE complexes of France will begin in 2017.

MMP is a shot-and-forget multi-purpose missile system with preserved command-and-control capability by an operator using an optical device over a fiber-optic cable. MMP allows to destroy stationary and mobile targets, including fortified structures, unarmored and armored vehicles equipped with self-defense systems of the latest generation, at ranges up to 4000 m in difficult tactical conditions at any time of the day with high accuracy and low collateral damage. Due to the modular design principle, MMP can be placed on BBM, aircraft, and also be used with the use of a portable PU.

The launch of an MMP rocket can be carried out in three modes: “shot-and-forget”, command guidance by the operator over the fiber-optic cable throughout the rocket’s flight to the target and target capture “after the launch”.

The missile is equipped with a dual-mode GOS (uncooled infrared / television), a multi-purpose tandem warhead, a two-stage powerplant and provides for the penetration of 1 m homogeneous armor and 2 m concrete. The mass of the starter with a tripod and a set of batteries - 11 kg. PU is equipped with a laser target designator, a magnetic compass, a GPS receiver.

According to the MBDA statement, one of the key advantages of the rocket is the uncooled IR GOS, which allows launching immediately after a target is captured.

For this contract, not a little "blood" will be shed yet ... Lockheed Martin is fighting for the possibility of transferring the license for the production of Javelin ATGMs to India and, apparently, this is the main obstacle to signing the contract. The Hindus were in awe after testing him in the summer of 2013 during the Yudh Abhyas joint exercise. I don’t know what results Israel Spike has, but apparently the European MBDA has achieved some success, but their obstacle is the lack of MMP in production, unlike Javelin and Spike. But again, an uncooled GOS for MMP is a big plus, there are no Javelins with such a GOS yet, although there have been reports of success in this direction.

Interestingly, but do we have something similar (efficient and small-sized)?

Surely we have samples no worse. We need to actively defend our position in the market.

Yes, it's a dangerous weapon. Better than a rocket.

And in this area we lag behind.

I think there is no chance of winning this complex, although its performance characteristics are probably at a very high level. The Americans have been trying for about 5-6 years to persuade India to friendship against China through military-technical cooperation. And they can offer India not only the production of such complexes in India. but also political "protection" in the world arena.

Old partners decided to stupidly throw. The USSR and later Russia invested colossal money in India and its military-industrial complex as a counterweight to Pakistan. What it led to Pakistan threw SAS and India Russia. Probably dream of becoming Players? laughing Although what the hell is not joking what

India optimally selects an arms system from different partners.
