Military and Police Revolver Colt

27
Since the last century, the revolvers of the American company Colt from Hartford, Connecticut, gained widespread fame outside the US as a reliable handgun weapon... It was used by police units, special teams and partly by the country's armed forces. The security forces of many other countries also imported these revolvers. However, for several decades, the company adhered to a conservative practice in relation to the design and design of its products. Therefore, Colt revolvers were inferior to similar weapons from Smith & Wesson in Springfield, Massachusetts.

Therefore, from the beginning of the sixties, they improved the already used design of the castle for many years. We replaced the previously used flat spring of the two-knee hammer with spiral springs. At the same time, the manufacturing process was modernized. Nodes and parts were replaced by similar ones, but produced at lower cost. A certain interchangeability of individual units and parts within the framework of the construction series was achieved.

Revolvers, made by this principle, received the additional name Mk.Z. They are used as military and police revolvers, but are also offered on the civilian market. Very often, revolvers designed for the military and the police differ from civilians only by the handle and sighting device. In a series of modern revolvers version of Mk.Z. The models are Troper, Lowman and Border Patrol .357 caliber, Magnum for shooting 9x32 P cartridges .357 Smith-Wesson Magnum. The Colt Polis Python caliber .357 Magnum revolver has a number of design details.

In addition to the handguns of these versions, the old-style Colt revolvers, manufactured in a modified version, were also included in the equipment of the police units. These included revolvers of Polis Positive Special, Detective Special and Official Polis models, presented by Colt in 1908,1926 and 1928. Revolvers .38 Special caliber equipped with 9x29 R cartridges sample .38 Smith Wesson Special. They formed the basis for new post-war developments.

After 1945, revolvers of Agent and Cobra models with an 2 inch barrel length were developed for the police units. Later, the company began to produce revolvers Colt Detective Special with an 2 inch barrel length in a more modern version and the Colt Viper with an 3 inch barrel length in .38 caliber, which are equipped with an ejector sleeve hidden under the barrel.

      I like Colt Python more
Colt's official historian, R. Wilson, spoke about the Python revolver: "Rolls-Royce among Colt revolvers". By the way about them there was recently an article on VO

I am also crazy about "Python" good Purely because of the aesthetic appearance. Inspires respect. So is the Israeli Desert Eagle. To put one of these toys to the temple of some ghoul under the stars and stripes, then diapers would probably not help wassat
This, of course, is a joke. But some samples of automatic weapons and revolvers really delight both from the appearance and the combat and operational qualities hi

You guys are like children. The war is on the nose, master shooting from "civilian" AK at a distance of up to 300 meters, it will definitely come in handy. And all this fuss and lisp with short-barrels, it's not even funny, it's for operas, and criminals with blacks and drug dealers, in peacetime.

Practice with firearms is practice everywhere.
Ascetic, you have been protecting Python for a long time, which is quite justified.

There are no good revolvers except the revolver revolver and Leon is its creator !!! The only safe and reliable design of all time. There is no equal in the vast expanses of the world and its surroundings. Take the advertised Colt python, wesson of all modifications, ruger and others like them and fire a shot from under your arm, while in a T-shirt or summer shirt with a short sleeve. And what will happen that was sung in the film "Ah vaudeville, vaudeville ..." Namely - you will understand everything and see everything yourself ... !!!

This is a joke? I just read Loveth's book "Short-Barreled Revolvers", they are quite capable of shooting from under the arm and not from a revolver. This is not uncommon. The revolver is far from the best revolver, even for its time. For light clothing, the Colt Detective Special revolver specified in the article is much better.

It means with respect to the "Nagant" that the system of this revolver was such that it provided reliable obturation. the breakthrough of propellant gases between the charging chamber and the barrel was practically excluded when firing, this was ensured by pressing the drum close to the barrel when firing.
And since only basically this revolver was in service with the Russian army, then deframbo is sung to it. And so the usual model of weapons. There are many samples and more powerful "Nagant", and with the best weight and dimensions.

Yes you are right ! There are a lot of models and forms of revolving orientation, but only the gun is reliable in the ratio of caliber and shot quality. In the strength characteristics of the frame, the gun is not equal, and the number of parts is an order of magnitude lower than similar samples, which does not detract from its merits, but excels in reliability.

Books can not only be read, but also necessary for the development of the mental abilities of the brain. A Colt detective in a hurry will be hated to you right after the first shot. For guaranteed hatred during a shot, keep your left palm as close to the cut of the barrel and drum as possible, better if in girth. The effect, I promise you, will be stunning. The summary made by you will be relevant to any models of revolvers except the revolver.

Have you ever tried to shoot from the "Nagant"? Terribly tight descent, this is the most basic memory of him. And this is due precisely to the 100% obturation, i.e. with the advance of the drum. Reloading "Nagant" is a separate topic altogether. In fact, in battle, if you use up the drum, then throw the "Nagant" far away, because its reloading will take an unacceptably long time. In fact, he is no better in this respect than capsule revolvers. The caliber is frankly weak for such a weapon. One of the worst revolvers of the 20th century. It was obsolete even before the First World War. You just don't understand what you are writing about.

Have I tried shooting a revolver? Don't make me cry !!! With a perfect fit of the revolver trigger mechanism, its descent will not be higher than 3,5 kg when adjusting the effort on the trigger by loading weights. You can use a dynamometer, but carry out the work on polishing the mating parts and axes with holes. Killed structures of any weapon with a mechanical drive will give you an equally hateful result, Believe me, worn out axial joints in the form of an egg will give the result of an alternating load during operation, and even the vaunted Colt with Wesson will be hateful to you, given that the Colt only needs to turn the drum and release the trigger, and the revolver - turn, pull and only then pull the trigger. With the wear of the trigger of a Colt and the like, the centering of the ratio of the chamber and the bullet entrance is disturbed, while this disease of "leftism" does not threaten the revolver throughout its entire service life. The guaranteed reliability of the frame is beyond praise, unless you use the work of TT cartridges and splitting in the revolver walnuts to brothel staff.
The presence of a platform on the bullet nose gives an indelible feeling of impact and compensates for the "small" caliber of 7,62 mm. If you spit on all the Geneva Conventions and the decisions of The Hague regarding expansive bullets and apply them in cartridges 7,62 X 39, as is done now, the effect will be at the level of any similar ammunition. The morale obsolescence of the revolver with respect to reloading was successfully compensated for by the 10-year-old model, but the events of the 17-year period did not give an opportunity to bring the innovation to life. It's a pity...

Modern ammunition produced for this revolver produces an average muzzle energy of about 210J, which is one third weaker than even PM, so no flat-headed bullets will help him. Not to mention it, it can only be recharged in a relaxed atmosphere. Just a revolver for the commander - to shoot himself if something happens.

The difference in fractions of a millimeter is not important here. In any case, different editions have different sizes. In the years of the Second World War, with a large shortage of revolver cartridges, experts in the artillery workshops drilled out the drum chambers for the TT cartridge, but due to the increased power of the TT cartridge, the revolver frame "stretched" forward and to the right and, as a result, eventually led to stable misfires. reloading - veterans kept a record of the shots made and, depending on the situation, fired 5-6 shots and reloaded the revolver, controlling the position of the unfired cartridges. When reloading, they closed the door with the same finger, because it is problematic to shoot with the door open. Then they put the handle in the right hand and used the left to cocking the trigger.

Nevertheless, the Piper and Nagan systems with 100% obturation turned out to be of little interest in most countries.

The decision to take the gun into service gives a firm idea that not everything was as bad in the tsarist army as it is shown to us. Nagan was a bit more complicated to manufacture than other systems, but the whole paradox is that the battle route was a hundred years only done a gun. All other systems gave oak. Undoubtedly, the materials and finishes of today's revolvers are beautiful! But if you put in front of you a scales with a Nagan on one cup and a bunch of beautiful specimens of bourgeois production on the other, then the Nagan will outweigh by combat longevity. I do not impose an opinion on Nagan in an orderly manner, but if I describe it in Aesopian language, then Nagan is a little tired a warrior dusted in battles, and the rest of the brethren are parquet sharkuns at his majesty's court.

I believe and do not mind. You can still set aside the leg in a varnished boot, carefully glue to the lower lip not completely burnt white and hold the arms holding the weapon at a distance of 50-60 cm from the eyes with a gracefully curved brush. Keep the left hand in the like glove behind back over the waist belt. It is desirable to bend the eyebrow of the aiming eye with an arc, and the ends of the whisker strings should be at the same level with the level of the world ocean. )))

The effect of a breakthrough of powder gases will be generally imperceptible at small shooting distances in the daytime and when holding the weapon as far as possible from the eyes in order to avoid injuries of exposed skin and eyes from the remains of unburned gunpowder, cladding of bullets or lead crumbs. Two cuts every year with excellent quality! V. Vysotsky once knew about this and sang in his masterpiece, a Letter from the city:
Tell the chairman, let my hut
She covers it now, and let the grass be cut out, -
And I’m not thinking of covering up heifers - I won’t think:
To spoil the record-holder for me - bite it, bite it!
And. As can be seen from the document - everything under the slate - even the heifers - do not hang around in the open air, as in Leningradka.
But seriously, after all, nothing will hinder you from conducting various experiments at your leisure to test weapons — only chur- in Nagan, if he has experience, you need to carry out repairs properly to eliminate the backlash that appeared during operation. Good luck !!!

Actually, the term "case ejector" is usually applied to a weapon chambered for a wafer cartridge, not a revolver. In revolvers, this device under the barrel is called an "extractor". But these are details.

Yes, I completely agree with you that Nagan is an excellent revolver, as they say with a capital "H".
I didn’t know about the use of cartridges from TT, thanks for the information. As the saying goes, "in war, all means are good."
The only thing, when Nagan was remade for TT cartridges, it is no longer necessary to talk about its unique property - obturation, since I understand that obturation was achieved by introducing elongated Nagan cartridge sleeves into the barrel bore, which TTs do not have.
          1. 0
            4 February 2014 21: 28
Yes, unfortunately, when using TT cartridges, you can write an obituary about obturation, but, as they say, in the absence of a lady, we have a janitor))) In war, everyone wants to shoot and a neighbor in the dugout will not always give you his weapon and choose the lesser of two evils. In a situation where human life is worthless, they don't care much about weapons, although my father is a veteran of the Great Patriotic War - he always told me - take care of weapons and it will save you! By the way - a rifle for post-fire, produced in Tula on the basis of a revolver - They call a hawk, by insert inserts into chambers have been converted to 5,6 mm caliber and the principle of obturation is also ignored, but the range of the bullet is almost like that of TOZ-8, but the alignment of the chamber and barrel is ideal. And - finally - all models of bourgeois revolvers have a very weak link - a place faucet mounts and cutouts in the front wall for the faucet. It turns out that the heavily loaded part of the weapon experiences twisting loads when fired, which is not okay. In the distribution of load forces, the frame is bent in the down-right direction and with frequent and long use the cover in the front part adjoins with a gap. And in the case of difficult extraction after sand or other dirt, the axis of the extractor orders to live for a long time together with the bend of the axis of the crane. And try to close the extractor after it gets under a star of sand, clay or just dust, which is quite likely in field conditions. These "childhood diseases" The revolver is not observed. With gentle handling of the revolver chambers, the cases fall out when you press your finger on the muzzle of the case. Can you imagine? Manipulations with the ramrod are no longer needed. Unfortunately, all castrated revolvers are now sold in a rubber-fired version and they are killed in the process of long use and create a false negative perception of a glorious, magnificent weapon of all times and peoples.
