Geopolitical mosaic: Qatar is ready to give billions of dollars for the restoration of Syria, and Saudi Arabia will buy nuclear weapons from Pakistan
Halloween costume. One girl in Volgograd, 22-year-old Anna, came to the Halloween party in a suit of a suicide bomber: a hijab and a belt (instead of trotyl - cans of energy). Photo of a girl in a hijab blew up social networks, write "Vesti".
Those who were at a party in the Volgograd club, startled. The city has not recovered from the tragedy in which the real terrorist is guilty: not so long ago, an explosion in a bus claimed six lives.
“Such cynicism and spitting on the graves of the guys who literally ended their lives on a bus just a couple of weeks ago is just disgusting and immoral,” they write on the Internet.
With Anna tried to break the hijab. Someone stood up for her. The girl has disappeared.
The main condition for entering the club was to dress up as awful as possible. The winner received a prize in the form of “iPad mini”.
Assad army wins. The units of the Syrian army defeated yesterday a large group of militants entrenched in the southern outskirts of Damascus, writes Maxim Semenov ("Sight") with reference to ITAR-TASS.
Syrian soldiers drove the rebels out of the suburb of Sbein. There fierce fighting continued for nine days.
Will the opposition go to Moscow? The Russian authorities are ready to provide a platform for informal talks between the Syrian authorities and representatives of the opposition who are ready to make contact, said the special representative of the Russian president for the Middle East, Deputy Foreign Minister Mikhail Bogdanov after talks with representatives of the opposition. Reports about it "Russian newspaper" with reference to the RIA "News».
As noted by the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation, representatives of various political forces, confessions and nationalities of Syria lack a dialogue. They should communicate in a free format.
Bogdanov added that the Syrian opposition fears that not all the settlement participants are ready for a peaceful resolution of the situation. It is to be feared that Syria will become the second Somalia, where radical groups are in charge of everything, Bogdanov noted. He noted that all the interlocutors are ready to stop the bloodshed.
Did not agree. Evgeny Shestakov ("Russian newspaper") notes that the situation around the peace conference on Syria resembles a mathematical equation with many unknowns. November 25 date is no longer relevant. We are now talking about the end of the year.
As Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Gennady Gatilov, who participated in the Russia-US-UN talks, said, “we felt that the Americans did not have enough leverage to consolidate the Syrian opposition.”
As for Saudi Arabia, visited by John Kerry, there the US Secretary of State was demanded not to support the Russian initiative on the participation of Iran in the Geneva Conference, to increase supplies weapons Syrian opposition, and the Assad regime - recognize illegitimate. Otherwise, the monarchy will reconsider relations with the White House.
Meanwhile, Moscow reaffirmed the readiness of official Damascus to send an authorized delegation to Geneva. Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said that "it is necessary to once and for all abandon the illusions about the possibility of cutting the Syrian knot with the help of external intervention." The Russian delegation expects that such an approach will be reflected in the communique on Geneva-2.
Qatar will restore Syria. Turkish parliamentarian calls on Prime Minister Erdogan’s government to change Syria’s policy, reports Mixednews.ru with reference to Global Research.
As Turkish lawmaker Rafik al-Ilmaz said, most of the proponents of military aggression against Syria have already accepted the need for a political settlement of the Syrian crisis. The legislator told the Turkish media that he "saw documents confirming that the Erdogan government and the Turkish espionage agency were cooperating with terrorist groups in Syria."
But after all, most supporters of the war with Syria turned to peaceful solutions to the crisis. Ilmaz said that "the government of Qatar has agreed to pay twenty billion dollars for the restoration of the Syrian state, so they seek to delve into the Syrian problem, and this issue was also raised at a meeting in Iran."
Ilmaz believes that, following the United States, the Arab countries have revised their policies regarding Syria. Ilmaz added: "The Ankara government received many warnings about the need to revise the policy towards Syria, since Turkey was left alone with the Syrian problem."
Grenade launchers, machine guns and explosives. On November 7 in the province of Adana, Turkish border guards intercepted a trailer with a weapon heading to Syria, reports "Lenta.ru" with reference to Reuters.
The local governor, Hussein Avni Jos, said that the truck had 1200 rocket-propelled grenades, grenade launchers, machine guns and explosives. The cargo was accompanied by nine people. They are arrested. To whom the weapon was intended is not reported.
It is curious that almost simultaneously with the interception of this cargo, the Turkish Prime Minister said that his country was not going to help extremist groups in Syria. According to Erdogan, Turkey will not help their supply or provide them with their territory for other purposes.
“Moreover, we believe that it is necessary to fight with such organizations with all our strength. Our government is already working in this direction and will continue this struggle, ”the prime minister said, adding that his government recognizes only the Syrian Free Army and the Syrian National Council, which Ankara is ready to help.
Crescent and star instead of Ataturk. Turkish President Abdullah Gul signed a decree on amending state badges, symbols and emblems in accordance with the Law on State Orders and Medals, which will remove Ataturk’s image from insignia. Reports about it "Voice of Russia" with reference to AZE.az.
The silhouette of the first President of the Republic of Turkey, Ataturk, will disappear from orders and medals. Instead, on the breastplates will be placed the image of the crescent and the stars of Turkey. The change decision was approved on October 28 2013 of the year by the Turkish Council of Ministers.
Golos Rossii reminds us that earlier, on October 8, the government also canceled the oath of schoolchildren. Every morning on Mondays, throughout 80 years, schoolchildren in uniform lined up and addressed the bronze bust of Atatürk, promising the general “to spare no effort to follow the goals he set for them. Then the students exclaimed: "How happy is he who can say that he is a Turk."
And even earlier, in July, the Turkish parliament changed the role of the armed forces. Instead of the wording “observation and protection of the Turkish Republic” introduced by Ataturk, the military now has the duty to “protect the Turkish people from external threats”.
Saudi Arabia as a nuclear power: the plot with the Pakistani bomb. Today, Riyadh is dissatisfied with Washington's policy in the Middle East. There was information that Saudi Arabia would soon become a nuclear power. This tells Ksenia Melnikova ("Voice of Russia").
Riyadh understands that if Tehran and Washington settle all mutual claims, this will mean the legitimization of Iran, the lifting of sanctions and the acquisition of regional leadership.
In the American and British media has already appeared information that Saudi Arabia has entered into a secret agreement with Pakistan. What is it? About the supply of nuclear weapons!
The situation in the region is changing rapidly, said Said Gafurov, scientific director of the Institute of Applied Oriental Studies and African Studies:
Analysts fear something else. Riyadh can launch a preventive operation against Iran, and Israel can be an ally. In the media there were reports of Israeli military aircraft, seen at the bases of the Kingdom.
So, we add from myself. While the West is trying to protect the world from the Iranian ephemeral bomb, Saudi Arabia is entering the arena, which can buy as many bombs as it wishes. And in the nervous hands of the Saudi Wahhabis, this weapon will seem to Washington to be much more terrible than the bomb from Iran. As for Israel, Netanyahu seems to have completely lost his political sentiment: friendship with the Saudis is fraught with its unpredictability. Americans have already received their from Al-Qaida. Maybe Tel Aviv should refer to the lessons. stories?
A holy place is never empty. The place of Saudi Arabia in the UN Security Council after Riyadh’s refusal to become a non-permanent member of this body will be taken by Jordan, RIA News" with reference to the Associated Press.
A spokesman for the agency said that the Permanent Representative of Jordan to the UN on the night of Friday flew to Amman to discuss the new role that this country will play in the Security Council.
RIA "Novosti" recalls that earlier the media circulated information that Kuwait agreed to take the place of Saudi Arabia in the Security Council. But the Kuwaiti Ministry of Foreign Affairs denied these reports.
Iran and the "six". The negotiations of the six international mediators (five permanent members of the UN Security Council and Germany) with Tehran started yesterday in Geneva, reports Interfax.
The delegation of the "six" is represented by the EU representative for foreign affairs and security policy Catherine Ashton. From the Russian side, Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov takes part in the talks. Iranian Foreign Minister Javad Zarif is participating from the Iranian side.
On Thursday, the first plenary session was held, then the parties continued negotiations in bilateral formats. Iran held bilateral meetings with members of the delegations of the European Union, Russia, and China.
The parties evaluated the negotiations that began as practical and intensive.
"The negotiations are practical, the atmosphere is positive," said Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister Abbas Arakchi to journalists. Comrade Zarif, in turn, did not rule out that an agreement with the "six" could be concluded this week.
In the Obama administration, the negotiations were assessed as meaningful and serious.
It is also reported that the Iranian side insists on the recognition of Iran’s right to enrich uranium.
“We can discuss only the details, namely the volume and the level of enrichment, but in principle, the issue of enrichment is not subject to discussion,” comrade Arakci reminded journalists.
Negotiations will continue today.
Obama told about easing sanctions. A possible easing of sanctions against Iran in the event of an agreement on the nuclear issue will be "very moderate." Key restrictions will remain in force, the President of the United States said in an interview with NBC correspondent RIA "News" Peter Martynychev.
Barack Obama said: “We can provide them with very moderate mitigation, preserving the very system of sanctions, preserving the basic sanctions, so that if over the next six months, when we try to solve more important issues, it turns out that they do not comply with the terms of the deal and intend to move forward, we could turn back. "
The US President believes that it is necessary to ensure the possibility of checking the actions that Tehran will undertake by agreement with the international community. Obama noted: “We can verify this. We do not need to get rid of sanctions to do this. I have already said that I will not rule out any options, including force ones, in order to prevent the appearance of nuclear weapons in Iran. But the best way is if we get verifiable proof that they are dismantling their program, if international organizations and we can see what they are doing. ”
This is not a concession! Israeli Prime Minister opposed an agreement with Iran yesterday, writes MIGnews.com with reference to the Jerusalem Post.
“The proposal, which was considered today in Geneva to ease sanctions, is not a concession at all. This proposal will allow Iran to retain opportunities to build nuclear weapons. Israel is completely against these compromises. I believe that their adoption would be a mistake of historical scale, ”he said at the conference.
His comments came after Iran and the G6 countries resumed negotiations in Geneva.
“Israel always reserves the right to defend itself against any threat,” Netanyahu said.
Double attack in Iraq. The victims of the suicide bombings on Sunday night were Iraqi 19 military personnel, reports RIA News" with reference to the Associated Press.
The terrorists in two mined cars were blown up on the territory of the military base in Al-Tarmiyah (in 50 km north of Baghdad), populated mainly by Sunnis. Almost 40 people were injured.
"Rebels" can be left without bonuses. Libyan authorities will stop paying salaries to former rebel factions involved in providing security if they don’t join state security forces by the end of this year. This is stated in the statement of the government of this North African country, reports Newsru.com with reference to ITAR-TASS.
“The government will stop paying these premiums and rewards after 31 December 2013 of the year,” the communique says. The document states that with the onset of 2014, the deadline set by the authorities for “disbanding armed groups and integrating them into the regular army and police” will expire.
The Cabinet of Ministers called on all ex-militia "to settle the situation" in order to take them into account when preparing the budget for the next year.
The arsonist of schools and headcutter was democratically elected head of the Pakistani Taliban. The members of the 7 Taliban Pakistan branch Shura held elections in November for a new leader, reports "Lenta.ru" with reference to Reuters.
According to the results of the voting, the post of the Taliban imam was taken by the field commander Mulla Fazulla.
Mullah Fazulla is known for rules of the Swat Valley until 2009, when an army operation to expel the Taliban was carried out.
Locals told that Fazulla regularly burned schools and chopped heads to everyone who did not agree with his interpretation of Islam.
One of the first statements of the new leader was the rejection of peace talks with the government of Pakistan. According to his representative, Shahidulla Shahid, Fazulla rejects the very idea of a dialogue with the authorities.
"Tape" reminds that the post of the leader of the Pakistani Taliban became vacant on November 1 - after Khakimullah Mehsud was killed by a blow from the American UAV.
The Bothnia forces occupied Estonia. Estonia was attacked by one of the neighboring states, Botnia. This is the scenario of the NATO military exercises "Steadfast Jazz", held in the Baltic countries. Reports about it "Lenta.ru" with reference to "DELFI".
The legend of the teachings describes the "ERR".
Relations between Estonia and Botnia are exacerbated, the latter requires "the exercise of their historical rights." The situation is discussed in the UN Security Council, but the conflict cannot be settled. The Bothnia troops occupy the Estonian island of Hiiumaa, then invade the mainland. NATO allies of Estonia come to her rescue.
Interesting here is the following. Judging by the maps from the “news bulletins” provided for by the exercise legend, “Botnia” is located north of Estonia - in the place of Finland.
87% of Lithuanian schoolchildren want to learn Russian. In Lithuania, there is a rehabilitation of the Russian language with political overtones. She shared this observation with Da Standard (supplement to the newspaper Der Standard, publishing “news on migrants for migrants in Austria”) Ineta Dabashinski, a specialist in sociolinguistics and dean of the Humanities Faculty of the University of Vitovt the Great in Kaunas. In Soviet times, everyone in Lithuania spoke Russian, in 1990-ies this language “went out of use” before our eyes, and in the last few years it became popular again among schoolchildren: about 87% of them choose Russian as the second foreign language , says the article by Masha Dabich ("Der Standard"; the source of the abbr. translation - "Inopressa").
Dabashinskin says: “It’s rather a question of lack of consciousness. People have stereotypes in their heads, they believe that they must be able to speak Russian, because Russia is our big neighbor and we have trade relations with it. Parents are afraid that without the Russian language their children will not find a job afterwards. But it is not so. I did a little research on recruitment ads and found out that Russian is needed not much more often than English. ”
She also noted: “Other advocates of Russian as a second foreigner at school cite Russian culture and literature as arguments. But when I ask them how often they travel to Russia, they answer: "Never." When I ask if they had to read Dostoevsky and Chekhov in the original, the answer is also negative ... When I speak with my parents and urge them to really think about (choosing) foreign languages, they mostly recognize that Russian is not the only candidate for the role of the second foreign ... Of course, I am for respect for all languages, I myself speak Russian, and I am very happy about that. Just a matter of balance. The problem is that the Russian begins to play a dominant role. ”
It turns out that Russian propaganda is involved here!
Dabashinski pointed to the political dimension of the question: “It’s not a secret that Russia is interested in keeping the Baltic countries under control, that is, in its sphere of influence”.
In her opinion, “Russia conducts fine propaganda on several levels, including in the fields of art and culture. Last year, Russia tripled the budget for the distribution of the Russian language abroad. It means something. ”
Ice class patrol ships. The Defense Ministry wants to form an ice-class patrol vessel in the north of Russia. About this yesterday at a conference call with the generals, said the head of the department Sergei Shoigu, writes Yuri Gavrilov ("Russian newspaper").
“I hope that by the year 2014 we will find additional opportunities for the movement of goods in the Arctic, including assistance and support to vessels when passing along the Arctic way,” said the Minister.
Which ships will enter the new navy connection, Shoigu did not specify.
Shoigu also mentioned the creation of new equipment for the northern garrisons of the Ground Forces.
The Minister of Defense also said that the airfield network and port infrastructure will be improved in the Arctic zone. In particular, we are talking about the restoration of airfields and berthing facilities on Franz Josef Land and the New Siberian Islands.
The West is concerned about the arctic dominance of Russia. Another review of Western newspapers from "Foreign Press" concerns the topic “Arctic Sunrise”.
The United Nations International Tribunal for the Law of the Sea in Hamburg plans to announce the verdict on the case of the Russian authorities ’22’ legitimacy of detaining the vessel Greenpeace and its crew in November, writes Stephan Kaufmann in Handelsblatt. The Netherlands side believes that the vessel was detained by border guards outside the Russian territorial waters.
The expert on Russia of the German Society for Foreign Policy (DGAP), Ewald Bölke, specifies that Russia is now talking about an increase in the Russian military presence in the Arctic region. It is planned to re-launch an airfield not used by 20 for years near the Northern Sea Route.
"By deploying its weapons in the Arctic, Russia creates a factual situation that emphasizes Russia's legal claims to other Arctic states like Canada or Norway."
As for the verdict of the maritime court, the publication notes that “the tribunal cannot impose any sanctions on Russia,” but “jokes with the UN maritime convention are not in the interests of Russia, which has a long coastline.”
Executive Director of Greenpeace International, Kumi Naidu, faced the most serious ordeal in his career, Jayasilan Naidu, chairman of the GAIN foundation, writes in The Huffington Post. We are talking about the struggle of environmentalists with the “Russian bear” because of Gazprom’s intentions to extract oil in the Arctic.
“The Arctic is a treasure of the Russian people and the whole world,” says the head of Greenpeace. - We are against the commercial exploitation of the Arctic. A treaty similar to the UN Antarctic Treaty, which proclaims the continent a scientific reserve, establishes freedom of scientific research and prohibits military activities, is necessary. ”
Melting ice, rising sea levels will endanger most island states and cities such as Mumbai, Manila, Calcutta, Bangkok, Lagos, ecologists say. The risk of floods, cyclones, landslides will also increase.
“Thus, the outcome of the match between David and Goliath in Russia concerns us all,” emphasizes Jayasilan Naidu. “If corporations and security forces win the battle for the Arctic, the whole world will lose.”
As Hanna Kozlovsk writes in the Foreign Policy blog, in mid-October, the Kremlin announced that by the year of 2020, it intends to spend 63 billion dollars on the Arctic program.
“Russian officials have previously argued that the military presence in the region is increasing to protect the country's coast from drug smugglers and illegal migrants. Maybe they have another adversary? ”The author writes, noting that eight states are claiming the Arctic.
Russian gays can get political asylum in the Netherlands. The authorities of Holland said that their country is ready to host all the Russian gays and lesbians: after all, they suffer a great deal of torment at home. Those who come are promised political refugee status, writes Lyubov Lyulko (Pravda.ru).
Franz Timmermans, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Netherlands, said that the country's government, taking into account the plight of gays and lesbians in Russia, is ready to provide them with political asylum. Timmermans also sent a letter to parliament, in which he again condemned Russian law prohibiting the promotion of homosexuality among minors.
The Netherlands, we add, apparently, a little of their blue, as well as drug addicts, bestiality and pedophiles. The state decided to import more Russian ones. Until that degree of freedom, which exists in Amsterdam, is very far away, even London and Washington.
However, now these Dutch regulations can spread throughout the European Union.
Run into the EU has become easy. The European Court ruled that homosexuality is one of the reasons for obtaining asylum in the EU. This was reported in a press release published on the website of the international body, reports "Lenta.ru".
However, to obtain refugee status, gays and lesbians will have to prove that they are in danger of being jailed for sexual orientation at home.
The ruling was made by the European Court of Justice in connection with the affairs of the three refugees from Sierra Leone, Uganda and Senegal, the Associated Press reported. They sought asylum in the Netherlands because of their homosexuality. Their countries have laws prohibiting same-sex relationships. As a result, the Supreme Court of the Netherlands appealed to the European Court for an explanation as to whether homosexuality constituted a basis for asylum.
The court, however, did not explain how to check whether asylum-seekers were gay.
From foreign intervention, Venezuela will be defended by air defense. Nicolas Maduro announced yesterday that the Venezuelan authorities would deploy modern air defense systems in Caracas and other areas across the country in order to guarantee protection against foreign intervention, reports correspondent RIA Novosti Oleg Vyazmitinov.
“We will deploy all the (forces) air defense that our homeland has. We will install the most advanced missiles in the world in key mountainous regions of the country, including those in the regions of Caracas, ”the local media quoted the president as saying at a rally in the east of the capital.
According to Comrade Maduro, the deployment of an air defense system is designed to “ensure that the enemy’s imperialist military is never aviation not reached Venezuela. "
The deployment of an air defense system, he said, will begin this year and continue over the next two years.
Mexican aircraft shot down in the Venezuelan sky. A light aircraft, registered in Mexico, was shot down in southwest Venezuela. This was reported yesterday by France-Presse with reference to the Venezuelan Ministry of Information. How many people were on board the aircraft and what state they are in, is not reported, notes "Lenta.ru".
From the statement referring to the head of Venezuela’s strategic command, Vladimir Padrino, the Venezuelan air force in the evening of November 4 “discovered and intercepted” Hawker 25 over the territory of the western state of Apure, not far from the border with Colombia. For what purpose was shot down the plane, does not say.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Mexico demanded that Caracas explain the incident.
This is not the first aircraft shot down by the Venezuelan Air Force near the border with Colombia, notes France-Presse. Earlier this year, at least thirteen aircraft were shot down in the region as part of an anti-drug smuggling program.
The UN will fight electronic espionage: the initiative of Brazil and Germany. Brazil and Germany submitted a draft General Assembly resolution to the UN yesterday calling for an end to electronic espionage and the extension of the right to privacy to the Internet, which is enshrined in the International Covenant on Political and Civil Rights. Reports about it ITAR-TASS.
The presentation of the document was held in the Third Committee of the GA by the permanent representatives of the two countries to the UN, António Patriot and Peter Wittig. Ten countries have announced that they are becoming co-authors of the document: Austria, Bolivia, Indonesia, DPRK, Liechtenstein, Peru, Uruguay, France, Switzerland, Ecuador.
A Brazilian diplomat said: “In this document we confirm the right to privacy and call on all states to protect this right. We also call on them to put an end to the violation of rights and create conditions that prevent such actions, as well as put an end to the practice and legislation concerning the surveillance, interception of data and their collection for unauthorized purposes. ”
Peter Wittig called on countries to join the work on the document and thus demonstrate their readiness to consider "one of the most pressing problems of international humanitarian law."
It is reported that Russia also plans to take part in the consultations on the draft resolution.
The latest version of the document, which ITAR-TASS correspondent was able to familiarize with, decides that illegal surveillance "violates the right to privacy and freedom of expression, and also undermines the foundations of a democratic society."
The draft request to UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Navanethem Pillay during the year to prepare a report with recommendations on the protection of the right to privacy in the context of electronic espionage programs.
Corr. ITAR-TASS recalls that the draft resolution was developed by Germany and Brazil in the light of the scandal caused by the revelations of Edward Snowden.
A few words about the "exceptional". Alexander Gasyuk ("Russian newspaper") recalls that when the news of the death of General Vo Nguyen Ziap came from Vietnam, the media in the US spoke warmly about him. It seems that the Americans realized: the Vietnamese epic was the first bell for the "superpower".
In the summer of 2010, Vietnamese victims of Agent Orange were invited to the Capitol. Speaking at the hearing, the 23-year-old Vietnamese girl, born without legs and one arm, clearly demonstrated the echo of American “exclusivity”.
According to Vietnamese doctor Nguyen T. Fon, out of three million Vietnamese victims of this toxic chemical, over one million people under the age of 18 have now become disabled, and 500 has thousands of children with congenital defects. Already the third generation of Vietnamese are experiencing the consequences of the use of "Agent Orange".
About world energy. As Said Khalmurzoev writes (Utro.ru), forecasts of the global oil and gas market development are alarming.
The next OPEC report states that global oil demand for 2018 will decline by 1 million barrels per day due to increased supplies from Canada and the United States, which will reach 4,9 million barrels per day over the next five years. This year alone, shale oil production in the United States and Canada will increase by almost a third.
But in the same report, OPEC experts say: on a global scale, the shale revolution in North America will not be able to change the overall situation on the energy market. After all, the global demand for energy will also grow. In addition, OPEC experts are confident that the shale revolution will not spread from the United States and Canada to Europe. And in North America, the rapid rate of depletion will lead to a reduction in production from the 2018 year.
The author of the article notes that the shale revolution can play the role of an “energy pause” necessary to begin the industrial use of alternative energy sources. Its main sources can be the next generation of nuclear energy, thermonuclear energy and hydrogen energy.
Will the 1905 revolution of the year be repeated in Russia? The current situation in Russia reminded analysts from Stratfor the period preceding the 1905 revolution of the year. “History does not repeat exactly, but studying the situation in Russia at the turn of the 20th century allows us to see a repetition of public unrest and understand how the Kremlin is going to withstand it,” the material quotes. "InoTV".
The most acute modern changes in Russia are demographic, experts say. More than 20% of Russians were born after the collapse of the USSR, "grew up in a strong and stable Russia, ruled by Putin" and "not tied to Soviet ideals and centralized power." This generation is “interested in an open society,” “more freely resists the oppression of the authorities” and “more often shares its thoughts on the Internet.” Such changes made themselves felt during the protests in 2011 and 2012.
Another change is ethnic and religious. Ethnic Russian becomes less, the material says. The number of Muslims is growing - both migrants and Russian citizens. Bottom line: national and religious minorities are becoming increasingly noticeable, and the protest voice of Russian society sounds louder and louder. Russians believe that Muslims take away their jobs, traditionally occupy Russian territories, commit crimes. Ultra-Orthodox and nationalist movements appear: from “Russia for Russians” to “Orthodox Brigades”.
Finally, the economy is experiencing a period of stagnation: non-energy sectors are weak. Those nationalists, Stratfor adds, say: the Kremlin’s desire to preserve energy as the main source of well-being leads to the fact that many regions are left without an economic base.
Note analysts and the weakness of the Russian state. The government does not enjoy such popular support as the president.
According to the publication, a similar situation in Russian history has already been observed in the 1905 year, which became the “foreshadowing of the 1917 revolution of the year”.
Stratfor concludes that the current sentiments in Russia are similar to those that preceded the 1905 events of the year, and the Kremlin’s reaction to the unrest is similar to the actions of the empire's authorities. Putin’s government “constantly maneuvers” and acts differently in every situation involving public unrest.
As in the 1905 year, Stratfor writes, the authorities have a “benevolent attitude” towards nationalists opposing Muslims and migrants. The Kremlin sanctioned the nationalist demonstrations on November 4 and used “massive repressive measures” against migrants in Moscow.
One of the difficulties, according to the publication, is that the Kremlin cannot take tough measures against Russian minorities. The war in Chechnya ended quite recently, and Russia cannot allow another uprising. As for the migrants, the Kremlin uses them as a foreign policy tool. And another thing: the Russian population is decreasing, and migrants make it possible to slow down the reduction of the labor force in Russia. Bottom line: the Kremlin can take harsh measures against migrants, but it is not able to completely ban immigration.
