In Russia, on Tuesday, February 15, the Day of Remembrance of Compatriots who played duty outside the Fatherland and took part in more than 30 wars and conflicts that occurred after the end of the Second World War is celebrated for the first time. This memorable date is celebrated in accordance with the amendments made by November 12, 17 of the State Duma of the Russian Federation to the Federal Law 2010 of the Year "On the days of Russian military glory". Previously, it was unofficially celebrated as the Day of the Internationalist Warrior.

The date and month of the new memorial date were not chosen by chance: 22 a year ago on this day ended the withdrawal of Soviet troops from Afghanistan. The basis of the grouping of Soviet troops in this country was the 40-I Army of the Ground Forces, which was responsible for the bulk of combat missions.

A new memorable date is addressed not only to veterans of Afghanistan. After the end of World War II, 1,5, a million of our compatriots, took part in more than 30 wars and armed conflicts outside the country. Soviet soldiers and officers fought in Korea and Vietnam, Syria and Egypt, Mozambique and Angola, and in other countries. Russian servicemen "put out" the hot spots in the republics of the former USSR, helped maintain peace in Yugoslavia, saved the people of South Ossetia from genocide. In total, about 25 thousands of our compatriots died in the line of duty abroad.

As the official representative of the Land Forces, Lieutenant Colonel Sergey Vlasov, "in all military districts, associations and formations of the Ground Forces, military personnel will take part in the ceremonies of laying wreaths at the monuments to soldiers who died in military conflicts abroad, as well as in rallies and solemn meetings dedicated to this date ", ITAR-TASS reports.
