... I spent eleven hours continuously, without landing, hanging in the air on such a one. From Syria to the Union, in 1973, during the war with Israel. Syrian MIG-21 escorted to Turkey, and Turkey did not let it through its airspace - they flew around. Therefore, instead of Moscow, they landed in Kiev.
Three days after landing, I had an itch in my knees from such a "wonderful sound of engines", as if the earth continued to vibrate.
        Colossus is not a plane!

From such a "beautiful sound of engines"

By the way, the engines on the An-22 are the same as on the Tu-95 (Tu-142) and on the passenger Tu-114, namely, the NK-12 Kuznetsov. The world's most powerful turboprop engines with coaxial propellers accelerated the Tu-95 to 900 km / h! As a child, I flew a Tu-114 to Kamchatka two or three times: in the cabin, especially in the center section area, it was almost impossible to talk to a neighbor in a chair, you had to yell in your ear! And so 8-9 hours. But there is something to remember. And I watched "Antey" in 1967, when it first flew to Yelizovo. Almost the entire village then came running to gawk at the pride of Soviet aviation.

They generally have few flying left. This year, like one Air Force received after both repairs.
They would restore at least half of what was left in storage.

But he already needs a replacement now. Alas, the work on the IL-106 is frozen indefinitely ... And it is not known whether they will ever continue in the foreseeable future ...

And by tradition, I have air art from the main character of the material ... smile

And An-70 to replace the glorious old man in any way?

An-70 is a machine of the S-130 and An-12 segment. Actually, to replace the latter, it was created. And hell is needed by the Russian BTA as soon as possible. Need because it is a really good plane! ..
But the An-22 is a machine with a carrying capacity of up to 80 tons. To replace it (by the way, and at the same time to replace the IL-76), the IL-106 was developed. But he remained in the calculations, layouts and drawings ...
But its American counterpart, the C-17A "Globemeister-III", has been flying since the early 1990s. And it flies very well. Moreover, with its appearance in the ranks, the Americans wrote off the Starlifter, an analogue of our Il-141, from their VTA S-76. Without any doubt, the S-17 is one of the most successful military transport aircraft ...
I think that the IL-106 would fly no worse than an American truck, but ...

The layout of the military transport aircraft IL-106. Alas, only the layout ...

You can’t say anything superfluous and bad, I’m not a pilot to give an objective assessment, but subjectively, the plane is super. As the first time I saw and heard the rumble of motors - that's it. I remember this hum today - power and confidence.

No, the An-70 was planned to replace the An-12 - this is another weight category.
A powerful hum is a fact. On the engines NK-12MA, after all, 15000 "horses" are wound.

The AN-22 will be replaced by the AN-70, if politicians allow it. A total of about 6 planes fly, and even then in turn. The plane is beautiful, powerful, and the sound is something !!!

If they allow, then the An-70 will replace the An-12. And the An-22 is a machine of a completely different class. And alas, we still do not have a plane capable of replacing it ...

An-22 is a great creation of the great aviation power - the Soviet Union. Now it only became clear and understandable that a powerful power in the economic sense could build such machines. The current realities today require the unification of the efforts of Russia and Ukraine to revive a powerful aircraft industry. Alone do not survive. Therefore, the friction and contradictions that arise between Russian and Ukrainian aircraft builders are completely incomprehensible. Need to negotiate - this is a requirement of today!
