CombatBoat 90 in Russian. Patrol boat "Raptor"

On August 15, Leningrad Shipyard Pella OJSC (Otradnoye, Leningrad Region) launched the lead boat of Project 03160 Raptor. The boat was built by order of the naval fleet Russia and is currently being tested. Checking all systems will take a matter of weeks - the transfer of the boat to the customer is scheduled for September this year.

High-speed patrol boat project 03160 "Raptor" is designed to perform several tasks. Depending on the need, it can carry more than 20 people, including with weapons and equipment; on duty in a given area; intercept and delay light watercraft; as well as carry out search and rescue. The boats of the Raptor project are able to work in the coastal zone of the seas, straits and estuaries. The equipment allows them to perform assigned tasks at any time of the day at a distance of 100 miles from the base.

CombatBoat 90 in Russian. Patrol boat "Raptor"
Launched at the JSC "Leningrad Shipbuilding Plant" Pella ", the speed boat built for the Russian Navy of the 03160 project (" Raptor ") was built for the Russian Navy. Otradnoe, 15.08.2013 (c) JSC "Leningrad Shipbuilding Plant" Pella "

The head boat of the project has the greatest length of about 17 meters, width - about 4 meters. The power plant with a total horsepower 2000 allows Raptor to accelerate to 50 nodes. Own crew of the boat - two people. In addition, there is a room with places for 22 people - troops, doctors, etc., depending on the current task.

Externally, the boat, built at the Pella factory, very much resembles the Swedish multi-purpose boats of the Strb 90H project (also known as CombatBoat 90 or CB90), which we wrote about not so long ago. The reason for this is very simple - according to available data, the 03160 project was developed on the basis of the Swedish Strb 90H / CB90 with the participation of Dockstavarvet, which created and built the original boats. Thus, the Russian “Raptor” is actually a licensed version of the Swedish boat, which supplements the list of numerous options, modifications and versions of the original Strb 90H.

Based on the "origin" of the project 03160, we can draw the appropriate conclusions about its capabilities. Boats of the Strb 90H / CB90 family are actively operated by the naval forces and security forces of Sweden, Norway, the United States, Greece and other countries. In all of these states, Swedish boats are used to patrol waters, disembark landing and search and rescue operations. Judging by the appearance of the leading Russian "Raptor", he will also perform these tasks. This is supported by the preservation of the nasal amphibious assault landing and the almost complete absence of any major changes in the design of the boat.

As can be seen from the available materials, boats of the 03160 project, like their Swedish “predecessors”, have a ramp and a passage for landing on the coast in the bow. Immediately behind the aisle is the cabin with the workplaces of two crew members. Behind the cabin there is a troop compartment with places for the group being transported. When disembarking through the nasal ramp paratroopers pass through the wheelhouse. It is also possible to land through the upper and rear hatches of the landing compartment.

Built for the Russian Navy at the JSC "Leningrad Shipbuilding Plant" Pella "the head speed boat of the 03160 project (" Raptor ") before launching into the water. Otradnoe, 15.08.2013 (c) JSC "Leningrad Shipbuilding Plant" Pella "[/ Center]

The photographs of the head "Raptor" is missing any weapons. Nevertheless, the foreign experience and mission of the boat suggests that it will be installed in the future. Its exact composition is still unknown, but it can be assumed that the boats of the 03160 project will be installed machine guns of various models, including large-caliber. As international practice shows, almost any necessary armament can be installed on such boats, even guided missiles (Norway conducted an experiment with the installation of Hellfire missiles, but these works remained at the stage of test firing).

The specific purpose of the new boat and the unit in which it will serve have not been announced at this time. However, from the camouflage applied to it, appropriate conclusions were drawn. A similar color with the characteristic "chopped" colored spots get high-speed project 12150A "Mongoose", designed for special forces of the navy. Thus, the Raptor boats in the near future may go to serve precisely in such units.

The fact that the Russian enterprise Pella has created a new boat for the domestic fleet based on the Swedish development looks quite interesting. Earlier, Russia and Sweden were not engaged in joint development or construction of military equipment, including for the fleet. At the same time, the head boat of the 03160 project is not the first light multi-purpose vessel of the Strb 90H / CB90 family to be commissioned in our country. From 2004 to 2012, the Federal Guard Service bought 11 boats like IC16MII, built by the Swedish company Dockstavarvet. The IC16MII boats are a revised version of the Strb 90H / CB90 martial designed for use by security forces and civilian organizations.

Thus, the Russian Navy in the very near future will take advantage of the best practices of foreign shipbuilders in building light multipurpose boats. Workers of the Russian shipbuilding industry, in turn, gained access to the technological part of a foreign project. Over the coming years, a new multi-purpose boat can be created on the basis of the 03160 project, which has higher performance and better capabilities than the Raptor. In the meantime, the Navy will receive a number of boats built in the framework of international cooperation.

Such and similar camouflage was used to "conceal" the outlines of the ship, and in addition, the "rippling in the eyes" silhouette was supposed to make it difficult for the rangefinder posts to determine the range to the target, its speed and heading. That in turn made it difficult for the enemy to aim ...

they were especially keen on issues of external camouflage during the First World War; if you are interested, look for some very fantastic examples of coloring warships. But then the progress of technical, rather than visual, means of detection returned the familiar format to our place. For such small vessels operating in the coastal zone, the very thing is, try to correctly take into the sight a moving vessel, if it is not clear where it has what?

This is the best boat in the world, which is produced under license for the US Navy (they have a lot of similar developments, but no, they bought a license in non-aligned and neutral Sweden), England, Australia, Greece and even a bunch of countries. The total circulation of more than 300 boats is only under direct licenses, but there are still variations on the topic and not licensed combat boats.

This is the case when it is more profitable to take the proven and the best than to develop your own. Plus, the capacity is quite low, that is, our 20 boats will not corny pay for development and not the fact that they will be so cool and multifunctional.

But the contours of the bottom of this "miracle" are one-to-one as the contours of the boat "Progress", which was produced for the population of the USSR and which everyone could buy. We had a lot of these boats on the Volga, and even now they still run in sufficient numbers. The fact is that this and other boats were produced at aircraft factories. Serious people worked there, and accordingly these products were of good quality. Maybe the Swedes have put the filling super serious, so, in appearance, nothing special.

No, the FSB FS is engaged in poachers, they have their own Fireflies, Mongooses, Sables, they sent the second Purga to the Far East, and next year there will be the head PSKR 22460.

These are light boats. By the way, the niche in our fleet is not completely clear. In the world they use:
      - The Swedes are like a patrol ship, a small landing ship, a snorkel-and-mine-layer, there are even variants with anti-ship missiles, but this is mobilization.
      - The United States uses both a coastal and river patrol ship, as well as a support boat for coastal operations, for this it is loaded into USPs. Separately, it was precisely on these Bots that they developed the tactics of controlling river water areas in the conditions of counter-guerrilla warfare.

In other words, it is a fast patrol-landing (about 20 people) boat, with not very good seaworthiness.

Survived. Is the country unable to build its own boats? I won’t believe it for anything. Armored boats and gunboats in the USSR, too, jointly built? The same legendary small river armored boats of the 1125 project. Or more modern pr.1204.

Creatively rethink, rearm, change the displacement, and the same Sweden will strangle itself with envy. Russia has a wealth of shipbuilding experience, and now we cannot even assemble such vessels ourselves - the help of the Swedes is needed. negative Again, someone's pocket is stuffing, bljad.
    1. donavi49
      donavi49 22 August 2013 10: 33
Well, this is a completely different steppe! You have an armored river monitor. Moreover, it is rather unsuccessful (the tower from the PT-76 does not provide the necessary accuracy even at an average distance, because the excitement is not countered). We do not have a modern analogue, but there is Buyan with stabilized A-190 and Grad, for the Caspian and the Volga.

This is a fundamentally different boat, oriented to speed, delivery of airborne cargo. In the combat boat variants, these are machine guns-20mm guns - in this embodiment, the boat is intended for patrolling inland water areas in the context of counteracting irregularities (roughly the 4-5 group is partisan with AK). Your armored vehicle is again not suitable for these tasks. For large guns are not particularly needed here, speed and landing loses. The essence of this armored boat is to act on the water arteries in conditions of war with the army. The essence of the Raptor and the Swedes is the patrol in areas with irregulars and rebels with light weapons and the transportation of landing / inspection groups.

Boats are fundamentally different, to create from one, the other will not work. Develop your own from scratch, in principle, you can. But, the total number is unlikely to pass through 20 pieces. In other words, it will not be the intended use of money, because development will cost more than the entire series.

And yes, I repeat, the USA, Britain and Australia, Greece and other countries are also stuffing their pockets when ordering boats in NEUTRAL AND NON-BLOCK Sweden and buying licenses?

Nice boat. Since they plan to use it in a rather specific area of special operations and the party is planned to be small, then, indeed, why spend money on R&D - it's easier to buy a license and rivet. (Together with the license, we get advanced technologies, we tighten up our production, jobs again, ... and then, after the license expires, we clone in the quantities necessary for the country's law enforcement agencies - "China's example is science to us" - after all, everything that serves to strengthen the defense capability of the Motherland is good for definition.)

OJSC “Leningrad Shipbuilding Plant“ Pella ”” is building a lot, there was recently a list of ships for the Navy on the site - so this plant flickers very often in the descriptions - it seems that they are building quickly - well done.

Only this year 11 tugboats are being handed over, plus a ship for the GUGI is being built, plus a full-fledged sea tug with unlimited seaworthiness. PS-45 has been laid, plus 2 port supplies of Pech and Umba (2 in and out with full tanks), plus pilot and crew boats for commercial customer, the FSB and the Navy. Over the past few years, more than 40 ship ships have been delivered wink . At the same time, capacities are very limited.

Here is a story about Pella, mainly for development, they are building a new shipyard.

"Thus, the Russian navy will soon take advantage of the best practices of foreign shipbuilders in the construction of light multipurpose boats."
Let’s take a breath, everything seems to be wonderful. But. What is so superexclusive in such a boat? Contours? It is doubtful that all variants of contours were cross-checked many years ago. Ship set? It is also doubtful, you can’t think of anything new and there’s no point. Internal organization? C'mon, this can also be copied from photographs. It remains:
    1. Case material, use instead of aluminum composite materials. To adopt this for yourself, you need to know how and what to do, you need the same machines and raw materials. I am 100% sure that the Swedes did not transfer production technology and equipment, but supply finished products.
    2. The engine. Ours could not in a short time develop a new marine engine under 2 thousand hp. it’s suitable in size for this boat, so the engine and gearbox are probably supplied by the Swedes, I don’t believe in the possibility of building the Swedes plant in our engine.
So what will domestic shipbuilding draw for itself by releasing this boat? Nothing, this is a typical screwdriver assembly. Just nothing gave our car industry screwdriver production of foreign cars.

I wonder what are the water cannons on our version?
English? Or maybe ours are fussing?
Rolls-Royce Kamewa FF. Used water cannons have an interesting feature: they are able to work even when the channel is not filled with water. This allows the boat to perform complex maneuvers with a large roll.

Please tell me what kind of a Russian boat should have been called the obscene name "Raptor" (and even in the Russian transcription of this exclusively English word). What, names like "Swift", "Perfect", "Smashing", etc. have already come out of those that were called our ships of similar construction before?

It’s time to adopt the experience of other countries in some issues.
And for discussion, such a feeling of many people cares only about one question, about the name ...

Taking into account the fact that all design bureaus of the ship industry are loaded with "serious" ships, the Swedish license option is very good. Moreover, in the course of construction, local personnel will learn something.

Look at the hull lines. This is a typical river, with planing, but without redan. Of course he can give 50 knots. But only by being unloaded. At full load, going on planing is problematic. Body material - light alloys. When hit by an incendiary projectile, it will burn out in 20 minutes. Completely. The crew will be able to jump out. But "it will be difficult for passengers. It is problematic to use on the seas - seaworthiness is about 3-4 points. But the hull, 17 meters long and a flat bottom, with any slight waves will force you to go at a speed of about 10-15 knots, otherwise there will be significant loads on the set hulls made of light alloys. Low speed is already a "displacement" mode with all its charms with flat-bottomed contours. Use on rivers? Do we have river flotillas? Even on the Amur, the former Amur flotilla became part of the 12th brigade of the FSB.
Yes, and some kind of ugly this "columbine".
Thank God marines of the border troops order other boats
