T-72B3 was declassified at the tank biathlon in Alabino

T-72B3 was declassified at the tank biathlon in Alabino

At the tank biathlon held in Alabino, as part of this event, a show of military equipment was held, which is in service with the Russian army. In addition to armored vehicles already known to the general public, the tank T-72B3 was openly demonstrated for the first time.

It should be noted that for some reason this premiere did not cause a stir among the visitors of the exhibition, everyone tried to take a picture of T-90А standing nearby. In principle, in fact, the outwardly modernized seventy-two warfare differed from the previously illuminated T-72B preliminary runs of the 1988 sample of the year only in that the Sosna-U multichannel sight was installed instead of the usual 1K-13-49 sight sight device. But since the windows of the sight were covered with a lid, not even all the tankers understood the difference. And she is.

This modern digital sight is equipped with a thermal imaging channel. Thanks to what the gunner-operator and commander tank in the “double” mode they are capable of effectively defeating various targets from a cannon and machine gun, and also launch guided missiles day and night, in any weather. By all characteristics, it is currently considered one of the best in the world. A similar sight, by the way, is on the latest T-90MS, as well as on a tank support combat vehicle (BMPT).

Another very important feature of this sight is that it is equipped with a target tracking machine. This allows the gunner operator to act on the principle of "shot-forgotten." It is necessary to find a goal, then automatics will work. And the fighter at this time can already be engaged in search of other purpose.

However, in contrast to the T-90MS, whose sight is covered with flaps opening from the crew seats, the crew members need to manually remove the protective cover from the updated T-72.

The 1А40 daytime sight, which was the main one on earlier versions of the Ural machines, was also revised and left as a backup (curiously, it is equipped with a laser-free protection). The machine has a wind sensor, the latest communications, improved weapon stabilizer and protection against weapons mass destruction. Also modified automatic loader guns for new ammunition and improved chassis, received tracked belts with a parallel hinge.

When T-72B3 was first seen in military units, many were puzzled that the right side of the tower, located next to the embrasure of the PKT machine gun, was not covered at all by dynamic protection. The old night sight was of an active-passive type, that is, under certain conditions, the illumination of an infrared illuminator was used, which was mounted just in the place where this “hole” appeared.

At the modernized machines presented in Alabino, this “hole” has already been eliminated, there are blocks of dynamic protection. Of course, all these half measures, the need to install on the Russian T-72, T-90 and T-80 type dynamic protection for the new generation Relikt, which can now be seen on Kazakhstani tank support vehicles, has long been overdue. But it should be understood that the T-72B3 is a budget upgrade, the designers of the machine were squeezed into the Procrustean bed of financial constraints of the previous leadership of the Ministry of Defense.

Therefore, instead of the 1000-strong engine B-92C2, which is installed on the T-90A and the previous version of the upgraded T-72BA, B-84-1 in 840 hp was left on this tank. And so the mobility characteristics have not increased.

According to the experience of the two Chechen wars and other military conflicts, tank practitioners and designers themselves have long suggested that closed machine gun installations (TPLs) should be installed on the updated T-72. But former officials also saved on them. And the current conflict in Syria shows that if Syrian tanks had ZPU, then many losses could have been avoided. Tankers would not need to get out from under the armor to the waist, which, you know, is fraught with fire.

Curiously, the Algerian army is upgrading its T-72 with the installation of such machine gun installations. The Algerians found money for a more advanced sight of the TKN-4 commander, and we still have a version of the old TKN-3 with very limited characteristics.

Of course, the Falcon Eye-type panoramic sight, which was already installed on the T-72 by the 61 BTRZ specialists and demonstrated at weapon shows, was very useful. Or the next version of the T-72B3 could be installed recently developed in Rostov tank assault and observation complex PNK-4C-02 with a thermal imaging channel and a laser rangefinder. This would significantly increase the commander’s ability to detect and hit targets.

Of course, the new electronics is expensive, but is it worth saving on it? Our western partners can count money, but they put all the most advanced equipment on their upgraded machines. What we can probably see next year, when the Americans and Germans come to us on their M-1A2 SEP V2, “Leopard-2А6” / А7. But the tasks of Russian tankers are not only to perform at competitions such as tank biathlon.

PS By the way, the tank crews of the 138 Brigade, in which T-72B3 appeared, became the winners in the tank biathlon, and the T-72B were used as training machines. True, the tankers say they regret that they were separated from their favorite T-80.

Tank biathlon as an option for practical combat training of tankers has shown its effectiveness. It is gratifying to realize that in the military department people began not only to think creatively, but also to put this into practice

This tank is not even a “half measure”, but “a third” “a quarter of a measure.” And the impossibility of opening the protective cover of the sight from the inside, when there is such an opportunity on the T90 - except for ???????? and "mata" there is nothing else causes, since SUCH method will lead to "loss of covers" and to all further consequences ... It's a pity, a trifle, not nice ...
As "Gur Khan" called it there - "budget modernization". Strange, it seems that the budget is not small, but the output is rather weak. And on armor protection, there are a lot of questions, both about the VLD and about the "tower"

It seems to me that the surface area covered by dynamic protection is less than on other modifications than on the T-80 and T-90

Why are the remote sensing blocks so widely spaced? On what basis was this position chosen? Or have ATGMs attacking from the upper hemisphere already been banned? The tower generally looks "naked". request

Recently, I just asked this question - what is there with ZPU. Everything is clear, I remove the issue from the agenda.

And what was secret about this tank? T90M means we are quietly showing the Indians, but T72B3 is still classified. Russia is a country of frightened idiots or what? Especially when you consider that India is interested in buying the T90 MS.

"The people will understand," or rather, they understood everything long ago.
The essence of these shortcomings lies in the fact that the basis of the technical training system is an unspoken prerequisite - a person who knows the weaknesses and shortcomings of his weapons can in a combat situation be frightened and not fulfill the task. At the same time, there is a provision according to which the design documentation of a new type of weapon entering the armament and into mass production is declassified, and the performance characteristics of the sample remain secret. Therefore, the main attention in the educational process is paid to the study of the design and operating conditions of the sample, and the performance characteristics are given in general terms with an emphasis on advantages.

It is written about BMP, but it can be attributed to all equipment. Even in the distant 80s it was possible to find out the performance characteristics of the latest NATO equipment from their magazine "Foreign Military Review", and for questions about the performance characteristics of domestic equipment, one could have a conversation with a special officer.

Already, there is no USSR, but we all keep secret from ourselves. So something needs to be hidden. Eh ... saving ....

We have an old holey boots, and there is a new, beautiful and without holes. And there are two galoshes, let's call them, conditionally, B2 and B3. The first makes a new felt boots from the old, and the second - a holey boots in galoshes. So not every galosh is equally useful, but some of them may well transform the old felt boot.

And now they "spoil" the mood before "Tankman's Day". The situation with new tanks in the army is now such that, of course, this "UVZ craft" will also be welcome. In my opinion, the place of this machine is in training units - since the complexes are similar to the T90, let the tankers prepare to shoot in "cheaper" vehicles ...

Well, judge for yourself how much you can beat off the tongue about the need for a "dense" and not a "leaky" DZ coverage, about side screens with DZ, about a "relic", about sights and closed machine-gun installations, about the FCS, etc. etc. , and they all "save". I completely agree with the above opinions of tankers.
But the lid of the sight ... just perplexing - they put an expensive device, but a simple crap - no.

    Repost from another topic:

When you look at the T-72B3, the feeling is that the novies put as much as they allocated money ...
    Stuck "Pine"? Well done.
It is very interesting for which new ammunition the AZ was “modified”, and how was it modernized?
Why again with the TKN-3 commander? (About TKN-4 did not understand ... it's not a tank device).
    Where is the closed zpu?
    Where is the circular protection?
And the dynamic protection installation system does not even cause annoyance, but anger. Ahead, one block is missing for the sake of mechanics (caring, damn it), the other ... they just "forgot" to put it after the dismantling of the "Moon", laziness was probably on the roof altogether empty, from the sides of the tower - bare metal, hope again only for spare parts. The case again is only rubber ... BMO-T and it is better protected ...

Here is the necessary minimum, and then the T-72 will still really show the guy to anyone. This is the modernization of the machine as the MAJOR tank of the aircraft, before the arrival of Armata, it is necessary to “shove” it to the maximum, and did not even do the minimum ... the rest of the equipment is (T-80) removed from service ...

    Bitterness and bewilderment.

In fairness, there is still a block in place of the moon. And the mechanic still needs to somehow lick it all the same not a suicide bomber. And on the sides of the standard 3 blocks DZ as on the T72B 89 and T90. And in general, it is strange to hear this, but what exactly did you expect? modernization, moreover, is quite budgetary, as actually expected, what are the emotions for?

        Sadness and misunderstanding ...
        - Imager to the gunner,
        - The stabilized panorama commander,
        - Closed ZPU,
        - Circular protection ...

Only in my memory have we been talking about this since the beginning of the 90's ... i.e. for over 20 years.
And if earlier it was clear that the T-72 is a "special period", now the priorities are changing.
And from this list, what exactly is needed - only Pine (a wonderful sight) ...
And such a DZ installation is a direct mockery ...
The T-72B has better protection: both the mechanic comes out, and the "mask" is closed and the roof.
        Something like this ...
