Tank biathlon is a type of competition in combat skill. At the training ground in the Moscow region, such competitions were held for the first time. The initiator of the event was the Minister of Defense of Russia Sergey Shoigu. Competitions are timed to the anniversary of the largest in stories wars tank battle on Prokhorovsky field in the Belgorod region, which occurred in 1943 year.
The crews of the armed forces of Russia, Belarus, Kazakhstan and Armenia took part in the competition.
After the competition, a representative of the corporation "Uralvagonzavod" Alexey Maslov told the ITAR-TASS news agency that the defense company is ready to provide the Defense Ministry with modern equipment for tank biathlon competitions. Tanks, according to Maslov, will not be inferior in characteristics to foreign models.
According to Valery Vostrotin, a member of the Public Council at the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation, tank biathlon competitions are a sport of the highest achievements. “Such competitions raise the level of military training of servicemen,” he noted. "I will recommend the commander of the Airborne Forces to hold similar competitions with paratroopers," added Vostrotin.
