Geopolitical Mosaic: The Muslim Brotherhood decided that the United States, the European Union and NATO would defeat the Egyptian military, and Bradley Manning would be in prison not 136 years, but only 90
The abominations of the Islamists in Syria. Iranian media reported about the terrible massacre of militants from Dzhebhat an Nusra and the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant on civilians in northern Syria. As informs "Russian newspaper" with reference to ITAR-TASS, gunmen executed 120 children, 330 women and old people. In all, 450 Kurdish hostages became victims of extremists. The details of the incident are not specified.
The media report that by their actions, the militants have avenged the Kurds "for the defeat inflicted on them in recent weeks."
What is happening in the Kurdish areas of Syria, "Voice of Russia" said the chairman of the movement "Kurdish Initiative", a member of the Syrian parliament Omar Wuxi:
In addition, as soon as information appears that the Kurds were somewhere confronted with militants, the next day, rockets were fired at our settlements. Recently, the spiritual leaders of these radical groups have issued fatwas to kill Kurds, including children, women, and old people. That is, the task now is to completely exterminate the Syrian Kurds as a barrier to further advance into the territory of Syria.
It is reliably known that the terrorists captured hundreds of Kurds and many of them were executed. Children were burned in front of their parents. It is worth noting that all these prisoners were civilians and were not in the Kurdish militia ... "
Thousands of smugglers attacked Turkey. Several thousand people tried to break through from Syria into Turkey. When trying to stop them, at least 18 Turkish border guards were injured, writes "Lenta.ru" with reference to Reuters.

Turkish servicemen through loudspeakers called on the participants to disperse. After the start of the clashes, they used tear gas and tried to drive off the attackers by firing shots into the air. 300 troops were also transferred to the scene.
As the representatives of the Turkish armed forces point out, smugglers from different countries have always tried to sneak into the country, but such mass clashes of border guards with thousands of crowds began recently. A similar incident happened last week: several hundred smugglers tried to cross the border, but were stopped.

US, EU, NATO - let's all go to Egypt! Ali al-Sharnobi (Canada Free Press; source of translation - Mixednews.ru) talks about the ridiculous statement made by the leader of the Muslim Brotherhood, Mohammed el-Beltaghi. This man turned simultaneously to the United States, the European Union and NATO, asking them to send troops to Egypt not only to fight the Egyptian army, but to destroy it. He explained that otherwise this army would crush the Muslim Brotherhood.
He made such a statement after the action, in which about 40 million Egyptians took part. They took to the streets and “voted with their bodies and feet to support the Minister of Defense and Deputy Prime Minister for National Security Abdel Fattah Said al-Sisi”.
The author also notes that the fear of the “Brothers” is a sign of their awareness that they carry the greatest threat to the national security and civil world of Egypt. The “brothers” know that after the organized violence they lost many supporters. The video shows that the “Brothers” kill their own members with the aim of putting the army and the police as killers, and then ask foreign powers and the UN to intervene. To spread lies, the Muslim Brotherhood uses the media, led by Al-Jazeera.
The Egyptians know, the author notes, “that Americans need Egypt more than Egypt needs America.” If America wants to stop military aid, they say, then let it stop now. It is well known that relations with Egypt - the largest country in the Middle East and the first guarantor of Israel’s security - benefit the United States the most.
This material must be supplemented by criticism of the US policy towards Egypt by the Minister of Defense of this country.
Egyptian Defense Minister Abd al-Fatah al-Sisi was interviewed by The Washington Post, writes newsru.co.il. He stated that the United States turned its back on the Egyptians, and the people of Egypt will not forget this. According to the Minister of Defense, the resignation of the president expressed the will of the people who had rebelled against the unfair regime. He noted that the army intervened to prevent a civil war.
The Egyptian defense minister said that if the United States really wants to help prevent bloodshed, then they should convince the Muslim Brotherhood supporters to leave the streets and squares.

This Pentagon concluded a contract with Rosoboronexport. The amount of the transaction - 8 million. $. American politicians wrote a letter to General Martin Dempsey, chairman of the United States Joint Chiefs of Staff, reports "RT" with reference to the Washington Times.
In the letter, the senators noted that while the Russian company "receives huge funds from the American defense department, it continues to be the main supporter of the monstrous crimes in Syria, supplying Bashar Assad’s bloody regime with weapons and ammunition." The text also says: “Although the Pentagon’s relationship with this company is worrying in many ways, the possibility that American taxpayers are involuntary victims of Russian corruption requires separate consideration.”
Finally, the letter expresses senators ’attitude towards Russia:“ We are concerned that the defense ministry is not able to assess the strategic consequences of obtaining critical military equipment from a potentially hostile power, such as Russia. ”
Journalist Glenn Greenwald named a large number. Glenn Greenwald, a journalist with the British newspaper The Guardian, said that he has about 20 thousands of secret documents from the US government. They were handed to him by Edward Snowden, who is in Russia. This writes Victor Feschenko ("Russian newspaper").
Comrade Greenwald, now living in Brazil, is famous for the fact that it was in his materials that Snowden's first revelations appeared.
Kerry and Hagel will talk to Russians about Snowden. Negotiations between the foreign ministers and the defense ministries of Russia and the United States will be held in Washington. Reports about it "Lenta.ru" with reference to Reuters.
A meeting between Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov and Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu, on the one hand, and US Secretary of State John Kerry and Defense Minister Chuck Hagel, on the other, is scheduled for August 9.
The US State Department stressed that one of the topics of the negotiations will be the extradition of Snowden.
However, earlier on August 10, 6, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov told Interfax that the meeting would focus primarily on military-political issues and arms control. Answering the question whether the situation with Snowden would be discussed at the meeting, Ryabkov said that he did not see "the subject matter that can be discussed here."
The Snowden family will arrive in Russia. Edward Snowden's family intends to visit him soon. An invitation to relatives of the whistleblower was sent by lawyer Anatoly Kucherena, reports "RT" with reference to the BBC.
Earlier, A. Kucherena said that Snowden wants his father's advice on how to plan his future Russian life.
"Butterfly Effect". A new review of Western newspapers from "Foreign Press".
Odyssey with Snowden's arrival from the Hawaiian Islands to Moscow via Hong Kong is entertaining, but it fades away from the Kabuki Theater, which two superpowers arranged for him, writes former CIA officer Milton Bearden in Foreign Policy. The author is confident that "all the moves made were intended for public consumption." US intelligence certainly warned the administration that the Russians would ultimately cover Snowden. And Moscow has never seriously considered the issue of exposer of the United States.
It should not be forgotten, the article says, that the defector-volunteer, driven by greed, revenge, lust, or simply boredom, has always been the central character of the espionage game between Russia and the United States.
Soon, the former NSA contractor will bore the Russians, Bearden predicts, because his utility is limited to the contents of his laptops. The former intelligence officer has no doubt that the Russians and the Chinese copied all the information Snowden had. As a result, the United States and Russia tied, while China won, Birden sums up.
Like an elephant in a china shop, Snowden destroys everything he touches. You can safely talk about the "butterfly effect" of his case: the expose responded to every corner of world politics, and the consequences are only beginning to emerge, writes Foreign Policy journalist Elias Groll.
Snowden smashed the fragile detente between the US and China on the issue of hacker attacks, public consent to aggressive intelligence gathering in the face of the terrorist threat and misconception about the possibility of private life in the digital age. Besides, story Snowden led WikiLeaks back to the center of public attention - as an organization providing assistance to all the “divisors” of state secrets. The actions of the whistleblower led to a vote in the US Congress. There were not enough votes for 12 to make an amendment blocking the funding of mass data collection programs. Information about spying on the US in Europe made it difficult to negotiate free trade between America and the European Union.
The author of the material, we add from myself, forgot to mention that others could follow the example of Snowden.
Bradley Manning will be in prison not for 136 years, but only for 90. The maximum prison sentence that a former US soldier could face for publishing US secret documents has been reduced from 136 to 90 years. This decision was taken by the leading process military judge Denise Lind, reports correspondent ITAR-TASS Dmitry Zlodorev.
Lawyers for the defendant appealed to the court. They indicated that the prosecution side "went to the tricks", trying to achieve separate punishments for each of the espionage charges. Lind came to the conclusion that some of the points concern the same violations and should be combined in order to “avoid unwarranted multiplication of the charges.”
Obama will fly to St. Petersburg. Barack Obama confirmed his intention to take part in the September G20 summit in St. Petersburg, reports correspondent RIA "Novosti" Alexey Bogdanovsky with reference to Reuters. The President of the United States did not specify whether he will hold a bilateral meeting with Vladimir Putin.
Speaking on NBC, Obama said he was disappointed with Russia's decision to provide temporary asylum to Edward Snowden, but this would not affect his decision to attend the G20 summit.
The President of the United States further stated that he did not see the reasons that would prevent his country's cooperation with Russia with better quality. “There are times when they roll back to the mindset and mentality of the cold war. But I tell President Putin that this is all in the past, and that we should think about the future. And there is no reason why we cannot cooperate more effectively than we do now, ”Obama said.
Who needs American paper newspapers. The acquisition of the flagship of American journalism - the Washington Post newspaper - the founder of Amazon.com, Jeff Bezos marked a trend: billionaires entered the paper market, which almost reached the bottom. This tells correspondent RIA "Novosti" Larisa Saenko.
And one more of the iconic American editions - the Boston Globe newspaper - passed into the hands of the new owner. He was the owner of the baseball club "Boston Red Sox" billionaire John Henry. Moreover, one of the richest people in the world, Warren Buffet, has acquired about 30 small newspapers in small provincial towns over the past few years.
The Washington Post cost 250 millions of dollars to a customer. This amount looks prohibitive in comparison with the amount posted for the Boston Globe at auction.
Michael Arnold, president of Arnold Aerial Advertising Inc., who has been in charge of the commercial department at the New York Times for over five years, told RIA Novosti: “What is the current investment in the newspaper business is clearly demonstrated by the history of Boston Globe.” The New York Times 20 bought it for 1,1 a billion dollars years ago. Last week, it was sold only for 70 million dollars, depreciating more than a billion dollars. The print media market is stagnating, advertisers are leaving unsustainable print newspapers on the Internet, and at the same time circulation is falling. ”
According to the American Newspaper Association, in 2011, the volume of online advertising placed increased by 207 million dollars, while in the print media the advertising volume fell by 2,1 billion dollars.
The Washington Post’s losses in the first quarter of this year amounted to 15 million dollars, and the digital version of the newspaper received a quarterly profit of 30 million dollars.
“Rich people can afford expensive whims. In fact, the Washington Post and the New York Times are the two most prominent newspapers in America, and if I were a billionaire, I, too, would probably have acquired one or the other. I hope Bezos truly wants to save her, ”says Arnold.
In a letter to a team of a newspaper with a 135-year history, its new owner Jeff Bezos promised to keep at least two traditions of the former Washington Post leadership: “The first is to have the courage to say stop, check, wait, get confirmation from another source. Living people and their reputations, fortunes, families are at stake. And the second - (making sure that it is right) to continue to develop history, no matter what the cost. ”
Want to land? Get the bullet! American Rockney Newell, who attacked municipal employees in the town of Ross (Pennsylvania) in the evening of August 5, had been fighting for a piece of land with the municipality for a long time, reports "Lenta.ru" with reference to CNN.
Last year, the city decided to evict Newell from the land belonging to him, and then sell the land at auction. Newell declared that such a decision would break his life: he had nothing more and he had nowhere to go.
The essence of the municipal claims that Newell, having received permission to build a barn on the ground, built a residential house there. The house instead of the barn - this is contrary to local laws. Newell 18 years ago was ordered to eliminate the violations.
In the evening of August 5, Comrade Newell came to the city hall where officials were conferring. The attacker opened fire with a gun through the wall of the room where the meeting was going. Having shot the ammunition, he went home for a gun, entered the room and continued his work.
He was stopped by an employee of the institution, who had a personal weapon with him. This man began to shoot and wounded the attacker. The survivors stranded the wounded Newell and handed him over to the police.
Bottom line: three killed, three wounded (including the perpetrator).
"I take my new home with me." A former homeless man from Utah has developed a mini-shelter for homeless people. He writes about it Gearmix.ru with reference to shine.yahoo.com.
73-year-old Gary Pickering, a former car shop owner from Pleasant Grove, says: "I think a person needs a sense of self-worth for something that he can call his own, even if it is just such a small shelter."
Pickering was virtually homeless for three years after his divorce in the 1980s: he was huddled in a workshop at that time.
His workshop was located in the industrial zone, where he met many homeless people who lived in broken cars or cabins. Four he settled in his van - at a time especially cold winter. He learned what it means to not have a roof over your head. People told him that they did not want to go to the orphanage: “They will steal my shoes”; "They don't let me take my dog with me."
In 2009, many years after he was on his feet, Pickering, passing through the nearby town of Provo, saw a homeless person. At home, he designed a two-meter residential "cocoon" 60 centimeters wide, mostly from plywood. He said: "But when I returned to give it to that person, I could not find it anywhere."
And then Comrade Pickering decided to develop the concept of an ideal temporary asylum. A few years later, he managed to create a “survival capsule”: a tiny house made of pressed wood with a wooden frame 120 centimeters wide, 2,5 meters long. The roof of the capsule is made of soft plastic. Inside there is enough space for a sleeping bag, a lamp, small things and even a portable toilet. The shelter can be connected to electricity.
Pickering collected five such shelters with his own money, investing approximately 500 dollars in each.
“I didn't do it as a business, I don't want to have a business. I just want to inspire others, ”he says, explaining that he wrote down instructions for making a house on DVD. Homeless people could pay for them little by little, “so that they had a little reason to be proud, and they could say“ this is mine ”, or they could conclude a formal rental agreement.
Shelters are made on wheels so that they can be placed inside empty warehouses, hangars or on any suitable piece of land.
