Easy all-terrain vehicle RPAMS C2 Commander
The C2 Commander, created by RP Advanced Mobile Systems (RPAMS), can be another army vehicle. This type of vehicle belongs to the class LTATV (Lightweight Tactical All-Terrain Vehicle), and for this reason, when creating it, the driving characteristics were put at the forefront. The main objective of the project RPAMS C2 was to ensure the highest possible speed and throughput. Currently, RP Advanced Mobile Systems designers are working on three light-duty army all-terrain jeep projects that differ in some characteristics, primarily in terms of payload.
The basis for the new army transport was the commercial lightweight all-terrain vehicle Can-Am Commander 1000cc. When creating the C2 Commander, the design of the original transport has undergone major changes associated with an increase in reliability and operation in combat conditions. All the main details of the design were strengthened, and in addition, some of the components were completely redone. So, in the transmission of the car included the rear open differential system of the RODS system, which allowed to improve maneuverability on the roads or in the city. Off-road, you can block the rear differential and thereby increase throughput.
Like the civilian prototype, the C2 Commander all-terrain vehicle is equipped with a two-cylinder V-engine 976cc with horsepower 85. Transmission transmits torque to all four wheels without the possibility of disabling one of the axles when driving on the highway. All units of the power plant and transmission are mounted on a steel frame assembled from pipes with a diameter up to 2 inches (about 5 cm). The RPAMS C2 jeep spring suspension is generally similar to the corresponding Can-Am Commander 1000cc units, but is noticeably reinforced. Army vehicles also received new RP SOF Series II tires adapted for use in military conditions. It is particularly noted that these tires are able to perform their function even after hitting a bullet caliber 7,62 mm. With such damage, it is alleged that the wheel will allow to pass about 75 kilometers of a track at speeds up to 45 km / h. Fuel tanks hold 10 gallons of fuel (about 38 liters), which gives the all-terrain vehicle a cruising range of up to 200 kilometers. The maximum speed on the highway is about 70 km / h.
A relatively small machine (3 x 1,5 x 1,83 meters) weighs only 585 kg. At the same time, it is able to carry two people on the seats and up to 272 kg of cargo on the rear platform. If necessary, the C2 Jeep Commander is able to tow a trailer with a total weight of up to 680 kg. It is argued that a variety of equipment can be used as a trailer, from cargo platforms to a light sanitary system for transporting the wounded.
Light body transport is made of metal and plastic and is equipped with a frame that can protect the crew when turning. The body and frame during the alteration of the base project underwent some changes associated with the strengthening of both individual parts and fairly large units. According to some sources, on request, the C2 Commander all-terrain vehicle can be equipped with a light roof, doors or windshield. The official information about the car C2 Commander emphasizes that thanks to the new Fatigue Mitigation MOLLE Tactical Seat system seats, the crew almost never get tired while traveling over rough terrain. The basis of these seats - a special porous material, good damping vibration and shaking, as well as capable of maintaining its shape for a long time.
The RPAMS C2 all-terrain vehicle does not have its own armament, but there are some measures designed to facilitate the use of personal weapons fighters. So, to the right of the passenger seat, mounted a special mechanism for the installation of a machine gun. On the available photos of the prototype machines, two versions of this system are captured: one of them is mounted in front of the shooter, and the other is mounted behind. In this case, both versions of the mechanism allow you to direct weapons in wide ranges of angles both horizontally and vertically.
The weight and dimensions of the C2 Commander light vehicle allow it to be transported on a large number of US aircraft and helicopters. For example, one helicopter CH-47 Chinook is able to take on board several of these machines. The main purpose of these jeeps is the transportation of small units, including on the battlefield. In addition, RPAMS C2 can become transport for special forces during raids into enemy territory. So, together with a group of fighters, several lightweight all-terrain vehicles can be delivered to a given area, which will facilitate the performance of a combat mission.
It should be noted that the absence of any booking makes both the all-terrain vehicle and its crew an easy target for the riflemen. However, the C2 Commander machine, allegedly, was not made for open operations at the forefront. It, first of all, is the light auxiliary transport intended for fast transfer of small divisions. This feature of the RPAMS C2 project can be considered the main reason for its general ambiguity. On the one hand, the special forces really need light transport suitable for transportation by air. But on the other hand, fighters in an open cockpit will constantly risk their health or even their lives.
According to reports, the lightweight tactical all-terrain vehicle C2 Commander was tested and showed that it meets the requirements of the Pentagon. Thus, in the near future will begin mass production of these machines. Perhaps the last argument in favor of an interesting, but ambiguous jeep was its value. One copy of C2 costs only 25 thousand dollars, which is several times less than the price of any armored vehicle.
