Nausėda opened the Leopard 2A8 assembly and repair plant with a wheelbarrow of sand.

On October 1, construction of an assembly and repair plant was officially launched in the Kaunas region of Lithuania. tanks Leopard 2A8. At a ceremony in the Kaunas Free Economic Zone, President Gitanas Nausėda called the project "the country's contribution to strengthening its own defense capabilities and cooperation with Germany," LRT reports.

During the ceremony, Nauseda threw sand from a wheelbarrow into the foundation of the future military-industrial complex.

The future plant will cover 13 square meters. In addition to tank assembly, it is planned to service other heavy equipment for the Lithuanian army.

YIT Lietuva is handling the design and construction. The company expects to complete the work in November 2027; the first tank assembled in Lithuania is expected by the end of 2028. The company is expected to create up to 100 jobs.
The total investment in the project is estimated at approximately €50 million, of which €29 million is earmarked for design and construction. Therefore, the announced start of construction does not yet mean the start of tank production: according to the current schedule, that is still more than two years away.

At the same ceremony, German companies KNDS Deutschland and Rheinmetall Landsysteme signed an agreement with Lithuanian state-owned Epso-G Invest regarding its future stake in the plant's customer, Lithuania Defense Services. According to BNS, upon completion of the deal, Epso-G Invest will receive a 25,1% stake, with the deal expected to close within the next six months.

A total of approximately 257 Leopard 2A8 tanks have been ordered for several countries. Yes, it's certainly worth building a factory in the Baltics for that.

It's a bit too much for a garage...

First of all, it's for the supply of equipment to Ukraine; that's what they're building it for, because 10 tanks are more than enough for Lithuania itself.

The wretched Finns are no strangers to "collaborating with Germany." They used Jews to make soap together, and now they're building tanks for the war with Russia.
    So small and so mean!

On October 1, construction of a Leopard 2A8 tank assembly and repair plant officially began in Lithuania's Kaunas region.

In 2 years, the plant will have 100 employees, with an investment volume of 50 million euros, of which 29 million is intended for design and construction.
What a run-down factory: 2 tanks a year for assembly and 4 for repairs. Something like that...

    What's the point?
What's cheap there that would make it profitable?
However... a "plant", like a small repair shop, with a couple of dozen employees, is nothing... although for those, small ones, it seems like a big deal...

As far as I understand, there will be a paint shop there: they removed the hazardous production from Germany! laughing
