The exercises were as close as possible to the combat conditions - the crews of MiG-31 interceptor aircraft and A-50 interceptor aircraft from various garrisons of the country were alarmed and redeployed to the Sovetsky military airfield near Vorkuta, where they took to combat duty. A special feature of the exercises was that the pilots did not know in advance what kind of adversary they would have to deal with and they did not receive the combat mission in advance, but already in flight in real time.
Tu-XNUMHUB-L ensured the delivery of the crew to the bomber flying over the Arctic Ocean
The approach to the protected area of the Tu-95MS bomber, which played the role of a conditional enemy, did not catch the fighter pilots by surprise.
When, the conditional enemy, who was above the Arctic Ocean, without entering the zone of anti-aircraft defense, launched a cruise missile, a group of fighters from four MiG-31, already took off on his interception. The group of fighters was controlled and aimed at the target from the A-50 long-range radar detection aircraft. Working together with A-50 and independently, exchanging information with each other, the MiG-31 are able to detect and destroy small-sized speed targets flying at low altitude, such as air-based cruise missiles. Five of them, they can carry out the missile defense of a huge region, controlling the territory, for example, of the whole Polar region, or the Far East.
Open bombs Tu-95MS - the hunt for the "product" has begun!
Launched along a complex trajectory, the cruise missile first went toward the Kara Sea, made a detour over it and, turning back, looped for over an hour over the tundra, trying to confuse the missile defense system. However, this did not prevent the fighters from detecting the launch of a cruise intruder, escorting it and destroying it using air-to-air missiles before it could reach the target at the Pemba proving ground.
The crews had to perform a combat mission in dense cloudy conditions, which made it difficult to visually detect a target, so everything had to be done almost blindly, in instrumentation, which brought the exercises even closer to the real combat situation, however, nothing prevented the exercise participants from completing the mission.
According to the assurances of the Minister of Defense Sergei Shoigu, such sudden checks of combat readiness will continue to be held to improve the quality and level of Russia's defense capability.
