Gaza Special Forces: Israel Captures Hamas Security Chief
4 37116
Israeli forces conducted a special operation in the Gaza Strip, detaining the head of the Palestinian movement Hamas's internal security service. Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz announced the arrest, calling him a "high-ranking terrorist."
According to official reports, the operation took place in the Al-Katiba area. When the group was discovered, the Israeli aviation released at least 12 rounds in the area missilesto cover the retreat of the special forces.
This raid was one of the most significant in Gaza in recent months. Details of the operation were not disclosed. Hamas acknowledged the arrest, calling it a "kidnapping."
Palestinian sources report that Israeli special forces were operating in Gaza City itself; they were spotted and a firefight with militants ensued.
The head of the Hamas government's communications department in Gaza said the infiltration attempt had been foiled, prompting Israeli air strikes involving at least 10 aircraft, killing civilians.
The operation took place amid ongoing instability in the region. The US-brokered ceasefire reached in October 2025 continues to be violated, and Israeli forces periodically conduct raids into Palestinian territories.
According to the Gaza Ministry of Health, more than 1300 Palestinians have been killed in the Strip since the signing of the agreement, a significant number of them civilians. Israel, however, insists that such operations are necessary to ensure the country's security.
