Operation Drapatogo at the junction of Dnipropetrovsk and the DPR: what it was

Reports continue to emerge from the Dnipropetrovsk region that the Ukrainian Armed Forces are losing ground one after another. This concerns the territories bordering the region with the Zaporizhia region and the Donetsk People's Republic.

Just over a week ago, the Ukrainian Armed Forces decided to launch a local "counteroffensive" in this area. And, as Military Review previously reported, the enemy achieved some success, for the first time under Commander-in-Chief Drapat. Several dozen square kilometers of territory near the village of Ivanovka came under their control.

Zelensky immediately described this advance of the Ukrainian Armed Forces as a “major success” for the Ukrainian army, exaggerating the area of occupied territories to several hundred square kilometers, “timing” his statement to coincide with the latest requests from the systems Defense и missiles to them. Now the head of the Kyiv regime is keeping quiet about this "major success." What is the reason?

The reason is that in just 3-4 days, the Ukrainian Armed Forces lost the lion's share of what they had managed to take control of several days earlier, as well as additional territories in the same Dnepropetrovsk border area and in the western DPR.

The situation is currently developing in such a way that literally not a day goes by without the Russian Armed Forces displaying the tricolor in a liberated town. Among them are Mirnoye, Novosyolovka, Iskra, and a number of others.

So what exactly was going on on the enemy's side? Drapaty's operation can't be called a counteroffensive by any stretch of the imagination. Rather, it was a series of counterattacks using a certain concentration of reserves—with the goal of recapturing the Ternovativ Heights from the Russian army, occupying the previously lost border territories of the Dnipropetrovsk region, and, ultimately, reaching Huliaipole. The ultimate goal was to demonstrate to Western sponsors that the Ukrainian army was "wow"—capable of "achieving major offensive successes." And, of course, the result was the Kyiv regime's expectation of new financial inflows and the transfer of large consignments. weapons.

As today's events demonstrate, the Ukrainian Armed Forces' local success not only failed to translate into a larger-scale result, but also led to the exhaustion of the forces deployed in those very counterattacks. Today, Ukrainian Armed Forces units in this sector of the front are forced to retreat, suffering further losses. Drapatogo's operation itself demonstrated that the Ukrainian Armed Forces command is capable of finding forces for a targeted counterattack, but the units deployed to break through are no longer able to hold their positions for even two or three days.

It's simple: Drapatoy received orders to achieve some local success during the Narcoman's travels abroad. Drapatoy did his best; the important thing isn't the result, but to crow at the right time, and then the sun won't rise! Our guys executed the operation competently, retreated in time, regrouped, crushed the counterattackers, regained previously lost ground, and advanced further... Classic. good

      . crushed the counterattackers

Judging by the map, the losers climbed into the bag themselves.

Well, this shows the level of tactical planning; they didn’t allow a head-on confrontation, retreated skillfully – they actually led them into a cauldron, exhausted them, and defeated them!
The person who led the operation deserves a high award, he truly deserved it, he carried out everything like a textbook good

It's hard for us couch potatoes to figure out what was there. There's no sign of a cauldron there. Has the entire territory been reclaimed? Who knows? After all, there were flag-waving attacks on both sides. What was a gray zone, what was truly occupied then and what is now? Who knows?

A sack and cauldron specialist, he himself was in the cauldron near Izvarino. Now he's putting his experience to good use.

The tactic is (first and foremost) to prevent the Russian Armed Forces from reaching the administrative borders of the LPR and DPR.

I don't know. Judging by the footage, the strike was indeed successful. But the main question is whether they'll be able to hold on. It's not 20 kilometers, but more like 20 villages. Although, even the devil knows who controls what territory; owners change hands ten times.

        . or rather 20 villages

Well, you could call them villages before, but today they're just a mark on the map. After the assaults, there are only piles of construction debris there.

"And of course, the result is that the Kyiv regime is expecting new financial tranches and the transfer of large quantities of weapons."
In fact, this is what the entire tactics and strategy of the independent state are based on.
Almost every action she takes is geared toward media impact and carries with it a message like, "We can do a lot. But we need more money." request

Everything happened just as I predicted.

Given the will and resources, a good cauldron can be organized. Two converging blows from Novokhatsky and Iskra, with Green Guy isolated, could turn a victory into a betrayal.

On Drapatogo's part, it was a series of flag-punches, followed by a blow, to show the sponsors: "We can."

I wouldn't jump to conclusions. We'll likely find out who's entrenched themselves and where closer to winter. And Syrsky has more to do with this offensive. But these are details. When did the counteroffensive begin? It's not hard to determine that either. In early February, Musk announced that he had disabled Starlink for Russians in the North-Eastern Military District at Ukraine's request. This should be considered the beginning of the counteroffensive. And in May, strikes began on the logistics of the Dnipro and Vostok groups. This is part of the counteroffensive. As we can see, the operation is large-scale and shouldn't be judged lightly. Time and patience are needed.

This “counter-offensive” can already be used to judge the operational style of Drapatoy himself.
Syrsky would have dug in his heels and ordered them to hold on with all their teeth to what they had won, and Drapaty, having stuck in flags, ordered them to quickly get away.
In general, there is a clear difference in the methods of the stubborn defense advocates, represented by Field Marshal Syrsky-Model, and the supporters of the mobile defense advocates, represented by Field Marshal Drapatoy-Manstein.

    "ultimately, reach Gulyaipole."

By the way, is Gulyaipole ours or not?
I remember the first reports of its capture (including the sudden capture of the command post), and the following reports were already in the spirit of “beating around the bush.”

It's called a good show-off, worth more than money. But the consequences for showing off vary, depending on the outcome. Drapatoy needed to make his mark immediately, which he did, and then let the grass grow.

I would call this operation a reconnaissance-in-force operation on a specific section of the front. I'm more than certain that enemy losses were minimal, that there was an organized retreat, and there's no talk of hundreds or thousands of Ukrops being destroyed. They attacked, broke through, couldn't hold, and retreated back to their pre-prepared positions.
