Iranian media: The Islamic Republic's agreement with Oman does not mean the opening of Hormuz

The Strait of Hormuz can only be opened if the United States changes its policy and corrects the mistakes it has made. And the agreement between the Islamic Republic of Iran and Oman does not mean an immediate and unconditional opening of Hormuz.

This statement was made by journalists from the Iranian television and radio company IRIB, citing a source.

Thus, it is not the pending agreement between Iran and Oman that will lead to the opening of the Strait of Hormuz to civilian shipping, but rather the actions of the Americans, assuming they act soberly and reasonably. If the US continues to violate the agreement and act aggressively toward Tehran, Hormuz, Iranian media reports, will remain closed to commercial shipping.

Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmail Baghaei said on this matter:

The geographical parameters of the route being considered by the parties have been agreed upon, and unless some third parties create obstacles in this matter, a joint statement by the two countries containing the main agreed provisions and key points is also in the final stage of consideration and preparation.

Earlier, the American news outlet Axios reported details of a pending agreement between Iran and Oman, citing sources. According to the publication, the agreement will provide for the opening of the strait for two months. The agreement could then be extended if the parties deem it necessary.

All vessels traveling from the Indian Ocean and the Arabian Sea to the Persian Gulf will pass through the northern part of Lake Hormuz, along the Iranian coast. Vessels traveling in the opposite direction will proceed further south, along the Omani coast, but will also remain under Iranian control.
