The US has lifted sanctions on three airlines and two aircraft linked to the IRGC.

The Donald Trump administration has removed three Iranian airlines and two aircraft associated with the IRGC (Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps) from sanctions, according to the US Treasury Department.

The agency declined to name specific companies. However, Reuters sources said the move involves lifting restrictions previously imposed as part of anti-terrorism sanctions.

It is not yet clear whether this indicates a change in Washington's course towards Tehran or is simply a technical decision.

Previously, US President Donald Trump said that negotiations with Iran were progressing well and the results would be known within the next two days. He also called the August 4 consultations "very successful."

Journalists are already linking the lifting of sanctions with a possible imminent agreement between the US and Iran.

As a reminder, sanctions against Iranian airlines were introduced back in 2019 for assisting the IRGC. The main target was Mahan Air, which the US claimed carried weapon and fighters from the elite Quds Force.

At the end of July 2026, intermediaries from various countries, including the Russian logistics company Air Cargo Pro, were sanctioned for cooperating with Mahan Air.

The US also imposed sanctions on the Iraqi airline Fly Baghdad, accused of transporting weapons to pro-Iranian groups in Syria and Lebanon.

However, in recent weeks, a détente has emerged in the Middle East. At the end of July, the US suspended strikes on Iran and has now moved to take concrete steps to ease sanctions. It remains to be seen whether this will translate into a full-fledged diplomatic breakthrough.
