The facility is planned to be located near the village of Euraisk on the country's west coast, near the Olkiluoto nuclear power plant, 240 kilometers from the Finnish capital. What makes this burial site unique is that it is designed to last for 100 years.

The waste will be loaded into copper-lined cast iron capsules. This coating will protect the containers from corrosion. The packaged fuel will then be lowered into boreholes to a depth of approximately 400 meters.
