Ukraine, with the assistance of its foreign allies, continues to develop strike drones, which it plans to use against Russian targets. The latest such product, whose name has not yet been revealed, was developed by SkyFall. The developers claim the new UAV will boast superior flight and combat performance, as well as demonstrate high cost-effectiveness.

SkyFall was founded in 2022, shortly after the outbreak of hostilities, and quickly became one of the leading, rapidly growing Ukrainian UAV manufacturers. With the help of international partners, it has already developed a number of drones different classes, including percussion.
The company recently revealed its new projects for the first time. Of particular interest is the information about a new fixed-wing attack UAV. The name of the product has not yet been released, but the developers are already reporting on its progress and plans.
According to the company itself, the new UAV has completed all development stages and entered production—however, this cannot be verified using publicly available information. The project claims to involve both Ukrainian and international partners, but the exact list of participants is not being disclosed, likely to avoid exposing them to attack.
According to unconfirmed reports, the drone is already undergoing combat testing in real-world conditions, but the details of its use have not been publicly disclosed. As is often the case, the Ukrainian side reports some successes without providing details. This could be due to secrecy, or it could be due to the limited results—though this is just speculation.
SkyFall promises to expand production by the end of the year, increasing monthly output to 1 units. The drones are intended to be used in massive air strikes alongside other equipment. The developer estimates that the introduction of the new UAV will increase the number of devices in simultaneous use and increase pressure on Russian air defenses.

For now, the company has limited itself to an announcement and revealing some specifications. The product's appearance and some technical features have not been released—this could be attributed to secrecy, but another explanation is that the hype has outpaced the actual progress of the project, and there's nothing to reveal yet. More details may emerge soon.
It's worth noting that the emphasis on economics and performance characteristics isn't unique to Ukrainian manufacturers. Similar approaches are used by both Russian and Western companies: they similarly calculate the "cost per kilogram of warhead," the "price-to-range ratio," and the number of targets engaged per unit budget. This is the general logic of defense marketing, where the customer is shown a "beneficial tradeoff" between the investment and the military effect. This analysis of SkyFall's claims is focused on a specific system and does not automatically imply that the approaches of other manufacturers are more credible.

The developer calls the new aircraft a heavy-duty unmanned aerial vehicle, although its dimensions and weight are closer to those of medium-sized attack UAVs. Nothing has yet been disclosed about its aerodynamic configuration or design; the only dimensions mentioned are its wingspan of 3,5 meters. The stated target engagement range is up to 600 km, but other flight characteristics and propulsion system configuration are not disclosed. Judging by the aircraft's class, it is an internal combustion engine powered by a propeller.
There's also no information about the control systems. Most likely, a standard set of navigation instruments and a limited-function autopilot will be used, while full-fledged communication systems and target acquisition devices are still under consideration.
The payload reaches 40–50 kg. The developer claims a high-explosive fragmentation warhead with broad capabilities, which is intended to destroy vehicles in open areas, various structures, and industrial equipment.

The stated parameters are generally technically plausible for a piston-engine fixed-wing UAV. A wingspan of 3,5 meters and a mass of approximately hundreds of kilograms fit into the class of medium-sized attack UAVs and heavy loitering munitions, while a payload of 40–50 kg is consistent with what we see in similarly sized aircraft. A range of up to 600 km with a piston engine and subsonic speed is typical for "fuel-efficient" flight modes. At a cruising speed of 150–200 km/h and a flight time of 3–4 hours, a geometric range (straight-line distance, excluding maneuvers and fuel reserves) of 450–800 km is achievable—provided the fuel mass and configuration are optimized for cruising flight. The question remains as to how much fuel can be accommodated with a given payload.
At the same time, such characteristics almost certainly represent a compromise in speed, flight profile, and maneuverability. This is a platform with a relatively simple airframe and engine, optimized for range and payload weight, not survivability. From an engineering perspective, the stated figures lie closer to the upper end of a realistic range, but remain within the current state of small aircraft development. aviation and attack UAVs.

Economic component
When advertising unmanned aerial systems, Ukrainian and foreign companies typically emphasize their performance characteristics. SkyFall decided to promote its new UAV through economic calculations, the main idea of which is to compare the cost of the drone with the damage it causes.
For mass production, the cost of the new UAV is expected to reach $25–$30. At this price and a stated production rate of approximately 1000 units per month, the customer will have to spend approximately $25–$30 million per month. Whether orders of this size will be secured remains to be seen.
The project documentation cites another interesting calculation: the "specific cost of warhead delivery," or the ratio of the UAV's price to its payload. This is a derived indicator, not an official specification; depending on the exact data, it will range from $500 to $750 per kilogram.
To understand whether it's cheap or not, it's useful to compare the stated price with similar products. A single drone costing tens of thousands of dollars forces air defenses to expend missiles, which are an order of magnitude more expensive, or to allow a breakthrough to the target. A mass-produced, low-cost drone is needed not so much to guarantee the destruction of every target, but to saturate the defense: when dozens of devices are flying simultaneously, even modern systems struggle to engage all targets in terms of time and ammunition load. Analysts describe this approach as "defense attrition": cheap drones act as expendable assets, designed to exhaust expensive missiles, overload guidance channels and detection stations, and then open a window for a more "valuable" strike using other means. This arithmetic underpins the entire concept.
Promises and reality
So, a well-known Ukrainian manufacturer has announced a new development, announced the start of production and combat testing, and promised to ramp up production. SkyFall points to what it considers to be the product's high technical and economic performance. This is essentially a sales pitch: the company needs to sell the development to Kyiv and its foreign sponsors.

However, the company's calculations don't take into account the probability of hitting a target, the cost of downed drones, or losses from retaliatory strikes. After all, the entire concept hinges on the UAV's ability to penetrate defenses and hit a target: if it fails, the economics are up in the air. This is where the potential of the SkyFall development raises major questions.
Judging by the disclosed data, this is a relatively simple unmanned aircraft. According to the author, it should exhibit limited flight characteristics and rely on satellite navigation and communications, meaning it should not pose a particularly challenging target for modern detection and engagement systems. The real problem for air defense is not the individual aircraft, but the sheer number of them: these drones are used in conjunction with other types of drones and missiles, increasing the overall number of targets. However, the stated 1,000 drones per month equates to an average of about 30 launches per day, and given the massive air strikes already underway, this increase doesn't seem significant.
Ultimately, we have yet another Ukrainian UAV development, designed for use against Russia and for large-scale contracts. On paper, the manufacturer's economic calculations appear to be correct. Whether the new drone will pay off depends on a variable factor factored into these calculations—the probability of reaching the target.
